Michigan could become final race in The Chase

A senior NASCAR official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told SPEEDTV.com Sunday morning that if the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway is totally rained out this week, it could become the final race in the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup. There is a 100% chance of rain today and an 80% chance of rain tomorrow in Michigan, which means the race could be run on Tuesday. But rain is a possibility then, too.
“If we absolutely can’t race in Michigan this week, then we’re looking at making it the final race in the Chase,” the NASCAR official told SPEEDTV.com. “If we do that, we’d move everything back to where New Hampshire would be the cutoff race to make the Chase.” Given that such a scenario is something NASCAR views as an absolute last resort, every effort will be made to get the race in this week in Michigan, despite the weather challenges. The current schedule calls for NASCAR’s regular season to end in Richmond Sept. 8 and the 10-race, season-ending Chase for the Nextel Cup to begin Sept. 16. in New Hampshire. The Chase is scheduled to end Nov. 18 in Homestead, Fla.

Anything’s better than Homestead!!!
Reschedule the entire Chase that the NASCAR big wigs hold so dear and have planned so carefully just for one race? I really doubt that, but NASCAR might be more delusional than I think.

Remember that face if this story turns out to be fabricated.
They better not. Otherwise they’re gonna tick off about 65,000+ fans (myself included) who have been planning a trip there from the 16th till the 20th of November.
When I go to Homestead, I expect to see the Chase end, not see the second-to-last race.
Guy, I don’t know what else they would do… The way I see it, they probably have four choices:
1) Tick off some of the Miami fans because their boring race isn’t the finale of the Chase
2) Re-arrange the schedule for the next 13 or so races just to make Michigan fall in the correct order and run it this coming weekend, pushing all the other races back one week.
3) Cancel the Michigan race completely and seriously piss off all the fans, the track, and the sponsors.
4) Just push Miami back and run it a week late, putting Michigan right before it.
I doubt #2 and #3 will happen. #1 is more likely than #4 I think, seeing as how it would be logistically easier to re-arrange the television and everything else for one race than it would be for two.
Of course, this is all assuming they can’t get the race in tomorrow. I bet with the prospect of shifting everything so drastically, they might even be willing to do it Tuesday if the weather is good.
Am I reading this wrong? Move the Michigan race to the Race #36? Does anyone realize the weather potential for the end of November in Michigan?? Forget about your rain tires…..
True Marty… They’ll have to bring chains for their tires!
What sucks is there are A LOT of people that fly in for these
races and if they mix around multiple tracks in different order
then alot of people are going to be screwed and forced to quickly
sell the tickets or miss the race and lose the money completely.
NASCAR needs too move there race up a week and run this race next weekend if they can not get it in this week they need too get off there high horse and do something right for a change and not mess none of the races up
Oh my what will they do ??? I can tell you 1 thing that NASCAR will not do…
Cancel the race and give back the $$$.$$
Come on Marty, snow chains would add a whole dimension to the “Set Up”
on the car.
Stephanie! Run this race next weekend and forget Bristol?!
What’s wrong with that Axel?
Wouldn’t everyone want to see an exciting high speed finish
at Michigan than slow poke Bristol?!?!
WOW! That would be interesting!
