In what would be best described as one of the more thrilling NASCAR finishes in recent memory, Jamie McMurray edged Kyle Busch at the finish line to win the Pepsi 400 by only 5 one thousanths of a second.
It was McMurray’s first win since 2002.
Jamie McMurray ended a massive losing streak in dramatic fashion, beating Kyle Busch by a bumper to the finish line of the Pepsi 400 on Saturday night.
McMurray snapped a 166-race winless streak by drag racing with Busch for much of the final two laps at Daytona International Speedway. The cars appeared to touch several times on their final trip around the famed track, and McMurray nosed across the finish line a mere 0.005 seconds ahead of Busch.
It denied Busch a shot at a rare double victory - he won the rain rescheduled Busch Series race 12 hours earlier - but finished second in the main event.

Congrats; he’s not my favorite driver at all but I’ve nothing against
him either and it was nice to see him get a win. Always good to see a
driver actually get excited over a win as well.
One question:
How does someone who calls Daytona a “driver’s track” make it to the
position of race commentator? Bristol is a driver’s track. Daytona is
a fabricator’s track.
Good job Jamie , great to see you in the winners circle. Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards did a great job also. Very exciting finish. Thats 2 in a row at Daytona this year….photo finishes. And some people think Nascar is boring. lol.
I wonder if Kyle wins 4 or 5 races in the 2nd half of the season , will letting him go seem so smart?
Kyle is a better driver than Jr, but Jr clearly beats him with merchandise and the sales side.
This was another snoozefest until about 30 to go, these races are to long, letting someone pass
you since their faster makes no damn sense and defeats the purpose of racing in the first place.
as usual juan thought he was at a wreck em derby
Bristol is a demolition derby. You must enjoy yellow flags and bing a typical Nascar fan, you must like the wrecks the best!
Daytona is a ‘handling’ track. The driver gives the proper feedback to set up the car right and if they don’t do it right, the car doesn’t handle or have a chance to win. Oh, wait, the way Nascar throws those yellow flags to ensure close racing, everyone can win in Nascar.
I was glad to see McMurray edge Busch for the win. Kyle Busch has whined and cried too many times about how he hates Daytona. And even yesterday finishing 2nd he still whined about his teammates not helping him.
Hey, uh, “God”, I don’t like cautions at all and don’t think yourself
intelligent enough to form that opinion. Apparently you don’t know
what the term “driver’s track” means. It’s a track where the driver
has to have skill and drive his a__ off to win and as long as the car
is in one piece and running, you have a shot as long as you have the
skill to match. It all comes down to the driver’s skill, as the term
suggests to anyone with common sense. At tracks like Daytona your car
has to be in perfect shape or your chances are completely down the
drain, hence the fact it’s a fabricator’s track.
It would appear you are not a Nascar fan judging by your final statement,
so how about you not run off at the mouth when you don’t seem to know
that much about it?
Oh and by the way, drivers give feedback about handling at all
tracks. Just some rely more on driver skill and some rely more on the
car being in good shape. Hence the difference.
i didnt think that race was all that great…..just a repeat of the 500 with 2 dumbasses contending for the win this time….where’s the excitement in that truthfully i fell asleep on the damn thing with 40to go…..i like daytona i visit very often being a truckdriver and all but the racing there idk its nota lot of excitement in it much more
Uhm, Daytona nor Talladega are “Drivers” tracks.
Daytona requires great handling to enable you to run the track wide-open.
Talladega requires a great engine and good handling.
A track like Darlington is definatly a driver’s track.
Wow if you didn’t think that was exciting you don’t have a pulse…Awesome job JMac, it was a matter of time!
Daytona is a “decision” track or a racer’s track along with being an engine and fab track. I laughed at the “driver’s track” comment also. I woke up this morning and laughed about that again. Its definitely more of a driver track than Dega, however. They both require decisions on how to take advantage of the draft and find advantageous positions in traffic. I hope that’s what he meant by “driver’s track.” If Jaime hadn’t poked down on Kyle in the last 100 yards to get that little bit extra of air then he wouldn’t have got the win. Driving? Not sure… Definitely a good decision.
Talladega requires handling? ummmm. No. Agree with you on Darlington, though.
THANK YOU TONY FOR GIVING JEFF THOSE POINTS FROM WRECKING HAMLIN HAHA
Breanna, if you were truly interested in driver’s skill, you wouldn’t be watching Nascar!
I so agree wit u on that one bianca.
What kind of racing rookie listens to the announcers?
What kind of overall moron spouts off at the mouth when they’re not
informed on anything to do with what they’re talking about? I payed
attention to the commentators because Daytona is a joke. I’ve watched
less and less Nascar since Brian France took over but, for one, my
dad wouldn’t change the channel and, for two, I can’t afford to go to
the local dirt track to watch the real drivers right now.
“Anynomous”-Are you the same one who was basically stalking me before?
It’s creepy…
Anyway, the day you can race at 200 miles an hour in a car that’s
sliding everywhere in the wind and not kill yourself, I’ll believe you
have the right to call them skill-less. It may not be a driver’s
track but it takes skill, period, to run in Nascar. And fyi, I prefer
dirt racing because I believe it to take more skill anyway, but I’ll
watch any kind of racing because any form of it takes skill.
Anonymous, what kind of racing enthusiast/purist constantly looks for posts on the internet to bash and denounces a racing series that he doesn’t fully understand?
What a finish! The middle of the race may have been a snoozer for the
most part (except for Stewart’s run over the other guy and blame him),
but Kyle and Jamie made up for it at the end.
MY OPPION BUSH SUXS!! WAY TO GO JAMIE!!
Who couldn’t possilbly understand Nascar? It is remedial racing 101. Even Breanna dad says so…….hahahahahahaha.
Breanna,
NASCAR DRIVERS LACK THE SKILL OF DRIVERS IN REAL RACING SERIES.
MICHAEL SCHUMACHER SAID IT BEST, NOTHING HAPPENS IN NASCAR!
Go JR!!!!!
Who could possibly understand your typing? And actually, what I said
was my dad wouldn’t change the channel because he was enjoying the
race. I’m the one who wanted to change it because I think
Daytona is a joke and that the only reason it’s still such a major
track is because of the hype and history that comes with it and not
because it’s actual worthwhile racing. Not because it takes no skill.
And sports car drivers always say Nascar takes no skill, yet they’re
the ones with a push-to-pass button. Bottom line is, any kind
of racing takes skill and those who would claim one doesn’t are entirely
uneducated. Especially when making a comparison between two series
because you really can’t; there’s pros and cons of all the different
kinds of racing.
good job jamie its about time
oh yeah thank you gordon for working with jamie
Dude, you’re a waste of time. If you’re going to get so excited you can’t say something intelligent just stay away from the keyboard.
Michael Schumacher is scared to step into a stock car. Ray Evernham invited him and offered him a car with a “nice” setup on it. No real driver would ever turn down the opportunity to drive something new, but Schumacher did. Anyone who relies on technology so much and still thinks he is better than Senna is nothing in my book. You’ll obviously buy into any of the diarrhea that falls out Schumacher’s mouth.
I guess since NASCAR drivers are mostly relying on their own skill instead of technology that makes them inferior? NASCAR is sooo easy to understand but you don’t understand it yourself? Funny. Its also funny that you seem to think traction control doesn’t lessen the ability required by a driver but the FIA is wanting to go back to the old school and take it away… Hmm, now why would they wanna do that?
I feel like less of a person buying into your little game on here. If you notice no NASCAR fan is on the F1 blog trying to make you guys feel inferior. They either say something intelligent, ask a curious question or just don’t care.
Axel Foley IS on the F1 blog bashing Fernando Alonso, a 2-time World Champion while simultaniously supporting Dale Jr……….a public figure.
Michael Schumacher is too intelligent for NeckCar! Nothing happens in Nascar.
The finish was the highlight of the race. What’s with Tony bashing teammate and friend Hamlin? Not good! NASCAR has attracted many open wheel stars through the years like Foyt, Rutherford, Gurney, two Andretti’s, Danny Sullivan, the Unsers, Mark Donohue, Jeff Gordon, Robby Gordon, a multiple series champ like Stewart and now Montoya. Hornish is probably the next to defect. NASCAR is where it’s at my friend.
Nascar is where a driver can add years to his racing career. Take a look back at what James Hylton almost did at 72 years old……pathetic.!
Drivers from other series have always come to Nascar and won, it is easy pickings. Name a prominent driver to start as a Nascar driver and go to another series and win? Versatility requires much skill behind the wheel.
I stay on topic (except when you’re around) and bash the DRIVERS, if anything. I simply asked “Who respects Alonso?” Also, Schumacher lacks versatility and thus skill with your logic.
Just about every single NASCAR driver has raced in another series at some point prior to stock car racing. I can’t help that NASCAR scratches whatever itch most professional drivers have and keeps them from going elsewhere. Money, competition, fame may be those reasons but ease of racing is definitely not why they stay. If they wanted to drive something easy they would go to a series with 20 cars on a two mile road course with traction control, thousands of pounds of downforce, hundreds of millions in R&R, their own designated test drivers and no need to interact with any fans/human beings other than the team principal.
James Hylton didn’t even qualify for the race. He had a Childress car, that’s what got him into the duels but he couldn’t cut it. Louis Chiron qualified and finished 6th in an F1 race at age 56 in Monte Carlo and Monte Carlo is F1’s toughest track! He wouldn’t be able to accomplish that at Bristol in any era. Drivers from other series come to NASCAR and win because teams give them the equipment. Most of us like seeing competition regardless of who the person may be. However, I don’t see any of those drivers with a championship in Cup.
Axel-Amen.
And hasn’t Tony Stewart won atleast one sports car series race? I may
very well be mistaken because I don’t follow those series, but I thought
he had. If so, he’s a two-time Nascar champ who’s won in the series
you hold so dear and, to me, the driver to beat for this era, for lack
of a better word, of racing. As far as natural ability goes, and that
word you threw around. Versatility.
let’s slow down for Breanna…Stewart came from another series where he won and won in Nascar(as they all do). The only itch Nascar strikes is MONEY!!!!!! Schumacher doesn’t need that, he made 50 million per year after he was in sports cars, he went to F1 and became the greatest F1 driver of modern time. Why would he care about Nascar?
We are talking about Nascar people going to other top series and winning…Dale Jr? Dale SR? The Allison Brothers? Cale? The King? Anyone you know who has done this? David Pearson? anyone???????????
Mario, AJ Foyt, Dan Gurney, Tony Stewart, John Andretti, Robby Gordon, JPM…all have come and won in Nascar after winning in a top series somewhere else.
Just name one who left Nascar and conquered a different series……even won one simple race.
The IRL is not a series I hold dear….it’s a one make race car series. The COT will do the same for Nascar.
Just name one race winner……….just one to establish themself in Nascar and go on to win inanother top series.
Just one.
come on, just one.
can’t do it can you.
amen, anonymous…my dad agrees
DW still runs the short tracks and he is 80 years old. It’s amazing how he handles those g-forces!
I love how your hot air comments can be blown any way you want to paint whatever picture you like.
I also love how you never refute my factually correct statements which completely destroy what you’re saying. I’m open to the possibility I could be wrong but you show me nothing. The intelligence is lacking in your comments as well as the facts of your debate. If you know how to click you can figure out my email address and we can discuss this without wasting other people’s time. If you take up that offer then I will be very surprised. Your choice. Debating is like racing and you don’t seem to know anything about either. I really worry about you, man.
We are talking about Nascar people going to other top series and winning…Dale Jr? Dale SR? The Allison Brothers? Cale? The King? Anyone you know who has done this? David Pearson? anyone???????????
You people say Nascar drivers are the best, then where is the Nascar guy winning in another seriers after becoming a Nascar star racer. Hell, look at history, I gave you name after name of people who beat Nascar drivers and asked for one example of the opposite and nothing!
Mario, AJ Foyt, Dan Gurney, Tony Stewart, John Andretti, Robby Gordon, JPM…all have come and won in Nascar after winning in a top series somewhere else.
Just name one who left Nascar and conquered a different series……even won one simple win. Nada, negative, nope!
Maybe they haven’t provided a name because there are none……
Annoyance, I already said that these guys like NASCAR and have no reason to leave. They race 10 months of the year and love it. Its next to impossible to skip a couple of seasons and come back to Cup and be where you were. They have a desire to be successful in NASCAR and beat their peers infront of hometown crowds. They could go to Indy but these are are aggressive drivers who like to be able to lean on eachother. They’ve raced other series before but when they end up in Cup, they stay.
John Andretti? lmfao. The rest of the guys you named excluding Juan Pablo and Robby are some of the greatest drivers to ever live. period. You’re not really helping your arguement. Also, Gurney raced with the Wood brother’s at their peak and got 4 of his wins at a road course, the same road course every time. Big wow. Squirrels… nuts. I’m sure you’ve heard that saying before.
Anyways, you have completely skewed this into something we weren’t even discussing in the beginning, but you’re current argument holds not water if you’re trying to prove that Cup drivers have no talent. We were talking about the skill and the level of talent required to navigate a stock car in Cup compared to another series like F1, IRL or even Champ Car. Just because NASCAR drivers don’t leave doesn’t mean they’re untalented. Those drivers you mentioned leave their series because they’re striving for competition.
Your alter egos are impressive but no more intelligent… Big Bill, King of Avery.
Go get laid man. Amen! Your dad agrees.
email me pmill3r@hotmail.com… we’ve pretty much covered everything, but i’m sure you need me to repeat it.
I’m still waiting.

If you are going to come here, get off topic, and basically run into the ground a sport that we all are discussing
while being too much of a wuss to even post your name, then leave. This is a NASCAR thread, not your open wheel crap.
And don’t call people “morons” unless everything in your post is spelled correctly. That makes you a MORON and
a hypocrite.
And it isn’t nice to call people queers in Texas. We don’t like it. Especially for weenies that don’t even have
the balls to post their own real name!! So, go watch your open wheel crap and leave these threads to the people
that can post their own names and enjoy a logical, interesting discussion of the topic presented.
He’s leaving his email because, by continuing to leave stupid comments
about a racing series you clearly don’t know much of anything about
that would give anyone an impulsive urge to correct you, you’re
clogging up a board with a topic that has nothing to do with what
the article’s about and he’s trying to do the moderators a favor.
It’s really weak to stereotype period, let alone when atleast you
know where he’s from because he’s not the ball-less one who won’t even
put a name let alone a link to any personal information.
And you are further proving his point that you blow more hot air than
Rosie O’Donnell’s flatulence by continuing to ignore his argument:
Sports car drivers feel the need to come to Nascar. Nascar drivers
don’t feel the need to drive sports cars. Why? Who knows. Maybe the
sports car competition is too weak for what they’re used to or maybe
those drivers just have something to compensate for so they feel
the need to attempt to show off.
Either way, you very rarely hear the athletes from the series talking
about how one series is better than another because they’ve lived it
and they realize that it all takes skill. It’s stupid fans hell-bent
on trying to prop up their series and drowned another, like yourself,
who drive other people to respond and start these arguments. Like he
said, you don’t see Nascar fans on the F1 site bashing it. Because we
don’t care and we don’t feel the need to put down another series to
make us feel better about our own. I mean seriously, as much as you
bash Nascar, who are you trying to convince: Us or yourself?
and I guess it says Budman on your birth certificate. Or is that just what you were conceived on?
Moron, indeed.
Age doesn’t make one wise darling. Nor does it instill common sense,
which you clearly don’t have or you would already know that. There’s
a reason I consider race commentating a dream career. Perhaps
it’s because I’m the one telling the older people at the local tracks
about the history of wherever we’re at and who’s done what there. Race
facts and stats are about the one thing I’m good at remembering. Get
to know a person before you make assumptions based off your own stupidity;
just a recommendation.
‘Get to know a person before you make assumptions based off your own stupidity’
spoken like a true 19 year old. here in the net, getting to know people before speaking about them.
Because one will not shut up about ‘history’ does not make it factual. It makes them desperate for attention. That is why kid’s pierce their lip, attention. That is why kid’s chat on the net…attention.
I am sure the older folks know all about you. They do not seek your advise, you simply go on and on and on(eyes rolling).
‘Someone pacify her and maybe she will go play in the schoolyard.’ a wise elder statesmen says.
What about them did I opine on that I haven’t seen shown here?
Nothing.
Again, stereotyping is wrong. I can’t help it that other teenagers
are mostly stupid. And you don’t know me enough to say I am as well.
Look it up and see that it’s right; that’ll make it factual. And yes,
they do ask, or I wouldn’t tell them. There would be no point in that
when I’d rather be watching the racing anyway.
FYI, I pierced my lip because I like how they look. I don’t give a
rat’s a__ if other people like them or not and told people off when
they were constantly asking me about them. So going back to my original
statement about getting to know someone first before making assumptions.
Well, this is on the third page of articles now and is completely
off-topic and I’m not going to debate an older person on wisdom coming
with age because it’ll go nowhere. So I bid you adieu.
Please ask your dad to change you
I think Breanna’s posts make more sense and have better spelling and grammer than most of the posts on this site.
She’s right, being a teenager doesn’t make you stupid. Read her posts.
(BTW, adieu means goodbye in French. She may have over spoke some of you.)
And lip piercing is much smarter than say, getting a number 8 tattoo? You can take a lip ring out. Who will
be in the 8 car next season? I am a Jr. fan and would never do anything that permanent to my body. Things
change every day. With an 8 tattoo, you may very well be rooting for Kyle Bush next season! And won’t you feel smart then!!
Or maybe it was German and not French? I don’t know; all I know is it’s not “Redneck”.
