Jamie McMurrayIn response to a report in Monday’s Charlotte Observer, which said he was parting ways with Roush Fenway Racing at the end of the season, Jamie McMurray told FOXSports.com, “There’s no truth to the rumor.”

“I spoke to (Roush Fenway Racing president) Geoff Smith this morning. … You never know what’s going to happen, but as of today there’s no truth to that.”

McMurray, who joined RFR in 2006, climbed to 22nd in the championship after Sunday’s race at Dover.

Whether or not McMurray remains at Roush beyond this season, the five-team organization must collapse to four by the end of 2009 in order to comply with NASCAR’s limits on ownership.

I look at their lineup, and I see Edwards, Biffle, Kenseth, Ragan and McMurray.

The first three have either won a title or been in contention.

The fourth is an up-and-comer that is showing signs of promise.

The fifth is a guy who has been all right but never really lived up to the hype with 2 career wins and had a career best points finish of 11th waaay back in 2004.

Someone has to go in ‘09 one way or another. I can’t imagine it’s anyone but McMurray. Is his deal done at the end of this season or is this all just premature speculation?

If Biffle re-ups his contract with Roush-Fenway along with Edwards (who I believe has already reuped) and they still have to go down to four cars by 2010, then I really don’t see McMurray staying, maybe Roush will give him a one-year contract thur 2009, but I don’t see it going any further even without that NASCAR four-team rule.

Personally I think McMurray can drive, he should if anything drive in the Nationwide Series for Rusty Wallace Inc., we know he can win there.

i think that if he leaves roush he will still have a cup ride. maybe even by then gem will have a fourth team and jamie could drive there.

How about RCR? They still have a fourth car that hasn’t had a driver named.

Oh yeah, I think he still gets a ride at the Cup level for sure. I just don’t see him sticking with Roush and I would hope he sees the writing on the wall. If I were him, I would be trying to get out of whatever contract I had left to pursue that 4th RCR ride, knowing that my Roush days are numbered!

McMurray can flourish under the right conditions
and obviously those are not at Roush

either him or Ragan will be shipped to RYR so no one is really going anywhere

i’ll srart a rumor. tony stewart buys into jr. motorsports
in 2010. him and jamie field 2 car team for dale jr. falling
back on tonys champ provional. possibly truex jr. going also
for a 3 car team. just an idea.

Why would Jamie go to RCR? Richard wants a driver with a PCP for the 33 car, Jamie does not have that.

I think the main thing that pigeonholed McMurrary into this rumor is the 26 team. Unless Biffle leaves and Jack shuts down the 16 again like he did years ago, the 26 car is the car thats going. The 99 & 17 are set for next year and beyond, and the 6 car to Jack is like the 5 car to Hendrick, it’s not going anywhere.

So if Greg stays the 26 will be gone, but if Greg leaves the 16 might be gone as well. But if the 26 goes, that does not mean JMac will go with it.

Yea RYR is basically Roush Racing so
I can see one of their drivers being shipped off there to
    make a 3 car team
