Unfortunately McGlynn Motorsports will be closing and auctioning off their assets at Sentman Auctions in North Carolina in the middle of July. Derrike commented, “Certainly we showed that we could make races with minimal sponsorship. We just could not find people or companies that had the means to sponsor us.”

Derrike has always been one of my favorite “little guys”. He has only run full time something like 3 years out of the almost 20 he has participated in Cup. His last quality ride was with Bobby Allixon when he finished about 15th in points. When he won the 500 in 1990, he had Buddy Parrott as a crew chief and a Hendricks chassis and motor. He was in a position to win all day long and when Dale got the flat tire, Derrike seized the opportunity. He drove the old #30 car for Bahari after Mikey left with a lot of his people in tow. It was a bad team. He was the original driver for MB2 Motorsports #36 Skittles car and the first #49 BAM Dodge. Last year he sold his Dodge to Mikey so he could be in the Coca Cola 600. His team had 7 cars, 1 motor and 2 intake manifolds last year. They had even less this year. The rest of his life he will always be known as a Daytona 500 winner. That’s not bad for a guy that made the most out of nothing. Good luck Derrike.
That’s supposed to be Bobby Allison, not Allixon. I have big hands and fingers and sometimes they overlap.
…Derrike is a class act, sorry to see him go.
