Michael McDowell, the Michael Waltrip Racing rookie, said Friday that he may be on the market for a new team, depending on MWR’s sponsorship search. He’s already spoken to several teams about his driving future, including Petty Enterprises.
Petty official Robbie Loomis said Friday that McDowell is among a small group of three or four drivers being considered for the team’s #45 car next season. McDowell said MWR has an option on him, but if it does not secure a sponsor for him in the next few weeks, he may have to look elsewhere for a ride. Casey Mears and Chad McCumbee have also been mentioned as candidates for Petty’s #45 car.
Other options that potentially could be available to McDowell include Chip Ganassi Racing’s #41 car and Gillett Evernham Motorsports’ #10 car. There are also openings at Penske Racing and Richard Childress Racing.
- McDowell to take over MWR’s No 00 when Reutimann moves to No 44
- Champion Mortgage to sponsor the No 00 MWR Toyota
- Michael McDowell walks away from violent qualifying crash at Texas-UPDATE
- McDowell to drive Cup car for Waltrip after Jarrett’s retirement
- Burton upset with rookie McDowell at Martinsville

McDowell ain’t going to PE. Chad McCumbee has just signed a deal with them
IF IT WASNT FOR HIM WADDING UP THAT CAR NOBODY WOULDNT EVEN KNOW WHO THE HELL HE IS
I hope Labonte isnt hurt after this idiots accident him and Gilliland caused, i say him and Gilliland both get sent up the road

Maybe you should drive a car, your so good at talking about other drivers and their talents, Kyle has caused plenty of wrecks in the last 4 years.

Well Bobby is fine and as far as Michael and David, it was a racing accident. Turn 11 is the most difficult turn on the coarse, it is a tight right hand-er and it is narrow and when you come out you slide out. some of the best drivers have wrecked there so don’t sit and hold judgement on a rookie. if you can do it better come out to a track and race, if not sit in your armchair with your keyboard but don’t criticize a driver for a mistake
Hmm what a terrible idea getting rid of Mcdowell
then again, much of what Waltrip does doesnt make sense
His wreck at Texas must’ve loosened the screws in his noggin. This guy and Gilligan really need to understand the severity of their behavior in Sunday’s race. Stupid moves to say the least. I think if my driver wound up in a hospital because of a couple of stooges, I would have no interest in signing him.
in one replay of that accident that has only been shown twice that i have seen, after the 00 hit the 38 a white car caught the back end of the 38 and caused the wreck. i told someone else and they finally saw the same replay, but you don’t hear about that now do you? couldn’t tell the number tho. it was just hard racing and i’m glad all came out ok.
Wow…observant…you are the wo/man. Kudos for the very smart post unlike Rowdy Bush who just learned how to plug in his keyboard but hasn’t taken the Betamax video tutorial on operating the CAPS LOCK key.
Back to the topic…it’s real easy to blame the rookie and the Cup whipping boy Gilliland. There is a rider in his contract where he accepts the blame for a nice cash reward.
Glad Bobby is OK but if he wasn’t hanging out in the toilet and instead running up front then this would be a non-story. I know, I know…PE running up front and it’s not even April Fool’s Day yet.
