Jeremy MayfieldJeremy Mayfield will replace Jeff Green in the No. 66 Chevrolet beginning this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Haas/CNC Racing general manager Joe Custer confirmed Monday.

“We made the decision this morning,” Custer said. “We’ve made a change. Jeremy will drive the 66 car at Atlanta and for the remainder of the season.”

Mayfield will remain at Haas/CNC in 2008, as well, Custer said, though it’s not yet known which number he’ll drive.

Hmm. I don’t see why you would make a change like this. I don’t think that Mayfield is much of an upgrade over Green. At least Stremme would have been a young driver with some kind of upside… I think we’ve seen everything that Mayfield has to offer, and it doesn’t seem to be much better than Green to me. Am I wrong here?

No Jeff I agree with you, it isn’t much of an upgrade but I’m wondering if Stremme would be any better… he’s shown potential but he still has a long way to go as a driver so maybe they just felt more comfortable putting a veteran into the ride. who knows..

Green has been driving very rough lately, with little to show for it. If you destroy cars and piss people off , you had better make it count.

what’s toyota and 360 have to say about this? What made them agree to release him immediately?

Well, I am happy for Jeremy! Like you said, Green’s been driving kinda rough lately, must have seen this coming or something.

I was afraid with all the open wheelers coming in that Jeremy might get overlooked for 08…. I consider him to be on a different level than Stremme, Stremme is a young driver and pretty good but Jeremy’s won a spot in the Chase before. Let’s see if a change in crew/car will work well for Jeremy, I’m looking forward to the Atlanta race now!!!!

Good for Jeremy, I think it’s an upgrade over Green, and I don’t really think that Stremme has a ton of up side compared to Jeremy.
