Mayfield Accuses Evernham of Having Affair
Quote selected text Published August 20th, 2006 in NASCAR NewsNothing like a good scandal to really spice things up. The world of NASCAR is no different. It wasn’t enough for Jeremy Mayfield and Ray Evernham to be essentially battling it out through the media, nope that wasn’t good enough.
Now, according to various reports, including a Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service report, Mayfield, who was fired as driver of the No. 19 car almost two weeks ago, has accused his former boss of having an affair with a young female driver, Erin Crocker.
While the court documents do not explicitly accuse Evernham of having an affair with Crocker, they say, “at some point in time, Ray Evernham had entered into a close personal relationship with a female driver he engages to drive on NASCAR’s ARCA, Truck and Busch Series.” That description fits only Crocker.
There has been rumbling about this relationship all year long, so this really comes as no surprise. However, nobody in NASCAR’s inner circle, certainly not anybody in the Evernham Motorsports family, would address the rumors.
According to a spokesman for Dodge, both sides have settled their relationship, out of court — and Mayfield is free to go where he wants to go. Elliott Sadler has left Robert Yates Racing and will jump into the No. 19 this weekend in Michigan.
Mayfield most likely will land with Bill Davis Racing driving a Toyota next year.
Back to the accused affair, Evernham, of course denied that the No. 19 team was short changed. You really have to wonder how things could go that sour, that quick. Mayfield was one of only seven drivers to make the Chase in the first two years of NASCAR’s “playoff” system.

I thought it was well known Ray and Erin had already hooked up. You mean there might be a chance? Erin let me know if you are taking apps for boyfriends.
I’m not going to pretend to know everything that has or is going on between Mayfield and Evernham, but I do think there is more to it than what we’ve been told. When a driver, a veteren driver, can be let go so suddenly, and things between driver and former owner get really, really sour, it makes me wonder what was really going on behind the scenes. I think Mayfield is a good driver, he proved it to me at Pocono some years back when he moved Earnhardt Sr. to get around him for the win, a move Earnhardt is famous for. I wish good luck for Mayfield and Ray Evernham in the future. Hope everything can be settle maturely and quickly.
UGH!!!
Mayfield is simple man with what seems to be good moral values….
Why would he go complicate his life making a statement like this. Whether it is true or not, you don’t go throw your boos, or ex-boss (in the same business) under the bus!
Wasn’t Jeremy married? What happened to that?
Jeremy should know first hand about affairs, having dumped his first wife back a few years ago for a newer, classier model. Jeremy: One shouldn’t throw stones………
