Truex finalized an agreement on Wednesday to return to Dale Earnhardt Inc. next season with other longer-term plans in place, sources close to the situation said.
Truex will discuss his joining forces with DEI on Friday at Watkins Glen International.
The deal ends speculation that Truex would leave the company he has been with since making the move from Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Nationwide Series team in 2004.
He has been linked most strongly with the No. 12 car at Penske Racing, No. 4 at Stewart-Haas Racing and No. 33 at Richard Childress Racing.
The move strengthens DEI’s position in the sport following more than a year of gloom-and-doom predictions after Dale Jr. announced he was leaving for Hendrick Motorsports.
The organization is also negotiating a long-term deal to keep Paul Menard, who has improved from 34th in the points standings last season to 28th.
- Truex to stay at DEI
- Truex plans to stay with DEI
- Bass Pro Shops re-signs with DEI for three more years
- Truex, Jr ready to race with broken toe
- Truex to drive for JR Motorsports at Bristol

Smart move….stick with a company that apparently has an uncertain future. Oh well, hope it works out for ya!
Truex, not a real bright boy huh???
Mr. Truex I hope you are reading this, my question is……..
How do you expect to win races or championships staying with a once great organization now a poor one that is afraid to spend alittle money for good equipment?, you have to have good equipment to win, all I can say to you good luck, you will need it with TEI, once DEI……..
If this is true Martin, I am sad. You could’ve done better. I still can’t believe this is true. Are you shooting me?
This depresses me. Why, Martin? WHY????? He could’ve done SO much better.
Well this is good news for anyone whose favorite driver isn’t named Martin Truex, Jr. He’s now a lock to miss the chase in ‘09, so that frees up a spot for your favorite guy
Money talks, bs walks. Truexs’ bank account probably full now. Also, Truex and Menard(John’s $$$) are the best play for TE in order to retain company value for keeping sponsors or possible future sale.
wow….just like brett favre just did…you commited career suicide…..good luck with that….its gonna be a while b4 ur in VL again if ever
I saw on ESPN a week or so ago that Martin thought he had
overpriced his self and thought he would get big money so most
of the major teams dropped out of signing him quickly. He basically
worked his self into a corner.
Well there goes his career!! I loved to watch him race but now, like darrell said, he committed career suicide! However he must know something going on at DEI that enticed him to stay that none of us know about. Good Luck to ya Martin, hopefully things will turn around!!

I agree! I think the thing he knows at DEI is the big fat check
he is cashing.
I just read over on Yahoo Sports that George Gillett offered him quite a bit of $$ to sign with GEM in a 4th car. It was in Jay Busbee’s blog, so I don’t really know how true it is.
great move. now with paul dei will be in the running for a championship in ‘09. that 150 points really put martin back for a championship run for ‘08. good luck martin with dei and good luck dei. please don’t do anymore stupid things this year or next. god bless.
I’d rather be number 1 for a number 4 team then number 4 for a number 1 team.
