Marlin & Nemechek Will Stay at MB2, Team to Expand
Quote selected text Published July 27th, 2006 in NASCAR NewsNew MB2 Motorsports owner Bobby Ginn said Wednesday that drivers Sterling Marlin and Joe Nemechek will stay on, and he hopes to give them a pair of teammates next season.
“We won’t have any major restructuring this year,” said Ginn, who purchased the Mooresville, N.C.-based Nextel Cup team from Nelson Bowers, one of the co-founders in 1996. “Our focus will be on next year, when we will strive to become a four-car team.”
Ginn, 57, is a native of Hampton, S.C. He owns a string of upscale resorts in the U.S., Bahamas and Virgin Islands, and is an international real estate developer. He said he became interested in the team when he sponsored Marlin’s car for several races this season.
“I’ve been a NASCAR fan all my life,” Ginn said. “Owning a team has been a life-long dream. I’ve never done anything that has been more overwhelming.” With an eye on the future, Ginn hasn’t given up on the current season, which has 16 races left. “Our most immediate need is to finish the season strong,” he said. “This announcement will help, because it solidifies the future.”
