Mark Martin will race in 26 Sprint Cup events in 2008, including 24 point races and two non-point events. Martin will kick off the 2008 season and his tenure in the No. 8 U.S. Army/Dale Earnhardt Inc. Chevrolet with his record-extending 20th-consecutive Budweiser Shootout. Highlights of Martin’s 2008 schedule include the 50th running of the Daytona 500, the Coca-Cola 600, Brickyard 400 and Sprint Cup All-Star event.
Martin will share the No. 8 ride with rookie Aric Almirola, who will run the remaining 12 events in the car. Martin will enter in the first four point races of the season before handing the wheel over to Almirola at Bristol (March 16) and Martinsville (March 30).
“I think it’s going to be an exciting season,” said Martin, who will enter his 26th year of Cup racing. “I’m so excited to be behind the wheel of the No. 8 U.S. Army Chevrolet and to be working with Tony Gibson (crew chief) and the No. 8 Team. It’s an incredible honor to drive the No. 8 car for Dale Earnhardt Inc. and we are excited about moving into the season.
“Those guys on this team really had some fast cars a year ago, and we are looking to build on that. Our goal is to be competitive and race up front this season.”
Martin will compete in both the Budweiser Shootout and Daytona 500 before making his 700th career start at California Speedway in February.

Didn’t he promise his son a few years ago that he was going to retire so he could spend time with him and get his racing career started? Boy I wonder how his son feels now…….
Why in the world won’t he just go away? Mark needs to just freaking hang it up and help his boy get into racing, then live vicariously through him!
Nice Touch, Have Mark Martin in the #8. A top Driver in the field and top respected Driver in all of Stock Car Racing. I will be pulling for him.
Nice touch? Listen to his radio comm and you will hear the biggest whiner in NASCAR. “Tell that guy to stay away from me. I’m racing for points”. That comment from MR MARTIN is why I will NEVER have any respect for him on or off the track. RETIRE again. plese!
Rick, I am sure Mark got his education and passed his spelling class. So until you do one of those. Lets not talk about Mark.
Wow, and I’m sure the time it took you to dig this up just to slam somebody could’ve been used to spend with your family or something.
It’s apparent some of you haven’t followed NASCAR very long. Mark Martin is one of the most descent and rerespected drivers on the track today.
Would you be able to give up something you love so much very easy? I think not. GO MARK! I’m rooting for you.
shut up!
what is Martin’s racing schedule for sprint cup for the remainder of 2008
anybody else think that Mark, Jimmie, Jeff, and Jr. will be unstopable in 2009? He Rocks, 5, 24, 48, & 88!!
yaw need to go to a fan appreciation weekend at easter time one year and see the real mark martin in person. then you will see how he is with his true fans and people in general. I have met a lot of people that are friends now, so before you talk bad about mark go to Batesville ar. and shut up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that next year is going to be a great year for mark martin, because he will be with Hendrick. And with 3 teamates like gordon, jr. and jimmy you can’t go wrong. So go mark and show them all how a veteran does it. Have a great year in 2009 and good luck for the chase next year. See you in Batesville at Easter, from your number 1 fan from picayune.
