NASCARA $100 million speedway in Tangipahoa (La.) Parish will be built to standards for NASCAR and Indy racing, and the complex could be used for concerts, boat racing and as a staging area for hurricane response, officials said Thursday.

The Louisiana International Speedway, financed by private investors, is scheduled to be ready for racing in the fall of 2008, said Michael Weber, the future track’s vice president for marketing.

It’s unclear whether the track would ever be home to a NASCAR race. Officials of the circuit don’t consider a speedway until after it is complete, Weber said.

The track will be south of Kentwood, just off Interstate 55, on 1,500 acres bought by the investors.
