Logano to make Cup debut at Richmond?
Quote selected text Published August 13th, 2008 in NASCAR News
Before Sunday’s race, Joey Logano, 18, was hanging out near the transporter for the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, the car he hopes to drive in the Cup series next year. About reports he will make his Cup debut in a fourth Gibbs car Sept. 6 at Richmond, Logano was noncommittal. He is already scheduled to run the Nationwide Series race there Sept. 5.
“I think it would be a good start — if we start there,” Logano said coyly. “It’s the type of track I have a little experience at. I tested there once in a Busch East car. I think it would be cool. If we do that, I’ll get both races in. We’ll just have to see. It definitely would be fun.”

I read that Gatorade would be sponsoring the car. I do think
this would seal the deal on him replacing Tony.

When Joey comes to Cup his sponsor will be Gatorade
This kid has talent but he might be overwhelmed at richmond!! Short track racing!!!!
What will become of the Home Depot sponsorship if
Logano has Gatorade??

whoever drives the 20 car will get Home Depot if they stay in the sport.

Is Home Depot looking to get out and possibly do a partial deal
like Interstate? HD orage still looks better the the Lowes….Or its my
dislike for JJ talking….
^ Definitely your dislike for JJ.

Your right, I liked the car better when Skinner drove it even though he sucked..
This has bad news all over it, personally i think logano is capeable of being a future star, in my opinion this is a rush job by jgr, hes going to a track hes not familiar with, which all drivers from time to time, and god forbid if he causes an accident and has a negative outcome on a chase contender

I dont agree with you, he has raced on the short tracks in the Hooters series and he likes short tracks, this track is no different than any other race track
I’m sorry I guess I didn’t say it exactly correct. Not that Gatorade would be the sponsor next
year. They would be the sponsor for him to race in the Cup Series this year.
Does no one else seem to feel that
Logano has been pushed too hard?
He only has a handful of nationwide starts
And now he’s been slated to run Cup full time
Next year.
And JGR won’t be at 4 cars next year Howie.
So it would be either Home depot or Gatorade or
A combo of both.

well because it looks like Home Depot will leave the sport when their contract is up next year.

That could be true even though hes use to racing short tracks,if it was the old car he would maybe have a decent run cause of the series hes been racing but the COT i dont know hard to say.
dont bring that kid to richmond sounds like another over aggressive young racer we have champion contenders in there leave the chase alone he could change the whole picture look at last week how does bobby feel save joey for next year let him test cart this isnt the nfl joe
sorry i meant cot

Home Depot is following Stewart…

They are racers arent they, they should be able to handle what goes on around them. It should be if you want to enter a race and can qualify you should be able to race just like Jr. in 99.
This Joey Logano looks like a female in the picture above…LOL
Jason wrote:
No, Home Depot is done. Stewart has Office Depot
YOU LIVE IN THE PAST 88 LEFT THERESA

What year did JR win his second Bush championship?
Sam, Dale won 2 back to back in 98 and 99. He ran 5 Cup races in 99 to keep his rookie status in 2000.

Oh well maybe hell take his team mate out.
COOL GOOD RESPONSE
Does anyone know what number Logano will run at Richmond?
wrote:
yeah they will put him in the 80 car

Well by all means bring him in then, put some words in Howie for all of us on this forum, take the 18 out, take the 18 out EVERY RACE….LOL
That would be cool, see all the mm’s spread all over the track, might see Rowdy down there licking them off the track…
Gatorade is only being mentioned to sponsor him in however many races he races this year in
the Cup Series. If he does replace Tony and I think he will. Home Depot will stay there.
Office Depot and Old Spice have already signed deals with Tony, so Home Depot is not leaving
JGR.

Thats what I thought as well. So Dale JR had one full season in Bush and a championship in Bush before he ran in the cup series!
Joey Lagano might be the best driver to sit in a racer car, but we have no Idea for sure. I think it would be better for the kid to get some more experience in the nationwide series before he races in the cup series. They have pushed this kid to hard and to fast.
I don’t think starting him in the Chase cutoff race is really the best idea….
But hey, that’s just me.

Thats a lame excuse, kyle busch couldve done the samething when he was a rookie just getting started but since it was kyle i guess it was ok with you but wrong for any other driver.
i guess it has all been said joe gibbs joe is not invited accorrding to the fans we do not want him at MICHIGAN bring him in next year let him test cot let him mature in nationwide . don’t ruin a good season thank you joe
he needs to race, if he wrecks someone that is racing. Their is nothing in the rule book to stop him from racing. If he can qualify he should be able to race. this isnt wrestling
give it up t88

Joey can handle himself just fine, Like Teresa said if he can qualify he should be able to race.

I think your right Howie, but I also think he will see a new side of the sport. The talent level at cup is much better than anything he has seen.
i guess all has been said good luck to all racers and responders this was a pretty good topic should be a good race chat with you all later sorry if i offended anyone have a good raceday.STEVE T.
gypsy169 wrote:
you didnt offend anyone so you dont have to say your sorry for anything

Not only the talent level but the equipment level is much closer in Cup
Than it is in the Nationwide series..
Did any of you listen to what Mark Martin said. He said Logan can handle cup, and hes a hell of a wheel guy. You guys are so jelious that jgr is getting stronger and stronger. Kyle will win the championship, and Logano will do just fine next year!
freakin cheaters, both cars failed post race inspection for magnets placed under the gas pedals so the cars wouldnt go full throttle on the dyno. screw JGR
Howie Motorsports Photography wrote:
Exactly, This is just the beginning!! They are cheating in cup as well and just haven’t been caught yet!!!!

We will see!!!

Don’t count your bird eggs in the shrub/busch before they hatch, cheaters will get caught sooner or later and bye, bye points……..
Now the same place that said Gatorade is saying Joey’s number will be 02 and Home Depot will
sponsor it too. I guess we will see if that is really true.
