UPDATE:
Chicagoland Speedway announced today the installation of lights for the 2008 season. With this new addition to the 1.5-mile, D-shaped oval, Chicagoland Speedway becomes only the 10th Nextel Cup facility [of 22, 5 with Speedway Motorsports, 5 with ISC tracks] able to hold night racing. The NASCAR race weekend at Chicagoland Speedway in 2008 will feature two night races - the Busch Series race on Friday, July 11, followed by the Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday, July 12.

Sources have told 1340 WJOL that Chicagoland Speedway has been given a 12 million dollar check from ISC - International Motor Sports - to install lights for the 2008 racing season. This would make Joliet’s track the 10th Nextel Cup facility able to run night races.
There is no confirmation from Chicagoland Speedway, nor any word on how this would affect the now traditional season ending IRL race. Questions also exist on whether this could increase the possibility of a Craftsman Truck race coming to Chicagoland Speedway.

to catch a race hear under the light it would be AWSOME!!! cant wait!
I live in the area & I would love to have the track have lights & see some night races. I can’t wait, This is going to be good.
i didn’t realize there were only 9 tracks with lights (soon 10). of course, most of the tracks with lights have 2 dates, eh?
This would be fantastic! You could fry an egg on those stands during the time they currently run that race. I think the entire summer stretch should be on Saturday nights!
A night race in July doesn’t sound bad. Like ARCA hero said, those stands are hot and I believe that most of the July and August race should be run at night.
Bring on the night!
