Dr. Bruce Kennedy, husband of NASCAR official Lesa France Kennedy, was killed this morning in the crash of a plane that nosed into a Sanford neighborhood, setting two houses on fire, according to informed sources close to Daytona International Speedway and NASCAR.
Kennedy was piloting the Cessna 310 when it went down about 8:50 a.m. shortly after takeoff from Daytona International Speedway. At a briefing shortly before 11 a.m., the Seminole County Sheriff’s office said the pilot and co-pilot were both killed in the crash.
At least four sources who asked to remain anonymous said the Daytona Beach plastic surgeon was practicing for his pilot’s license.
The twin engine plane owned by a company linked to NASCAR crashed into a Sanford neighborhood this morning, starting two house fires and injuring at least three people, one of them a boy who was severely burned, authorities said.
Both homes were largely gutted by the flames, and smoke could be seen rising from the neighborhood where the plane went down around 8:40 a.m.
Matt Minnetta, a fire investigator with Sanford Fire Department, said at least three people were injured, including a boy about 10 years old who had burns over 80 to 90 percent of his body. Minnetta said officials believe the pilot was the only person aboard the plane.

=/ Really sorry to hear that. I just read about that in the news and
was like “Hm, wonder if anybody from Nascar was in it cuz they were
just racing at Daytona a couple days ago”. That’s really really too
bad.
Hope the kid [[plus the other people injured]] are okay as well.
same here.. just goes to show you aren’t even safe in your own home. i am sorry for the loss and i hope the others have a speedy recovery.
They’ll be in my prayers…
Unfortunately it looks like this also killed 3 people on the ground, as well as severely burning 3 others.
Bless all those involved.
Keeping them all in my prayers. I am extremely sorry to hear this news.
Wow. And her dad just died last month too.
RIP, all involved.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of those affected by this horrible accident.
Wow, Breanna, I figured you would be tickled to death at this news, after all the nasty crap you have spewed about the France family on this website.
4speed, that was totally uncalled for!!
shame on you!
my most sincere sympathy to the france family
and the families of the victims on the ground.
Wow. Have you ever been institutionalized before? No one gets happy
over death. Just because I don’t like them doesn’t mean I wish them
dead, and it seriously makes me question your sanity that you think
along that kind of wavelength.
