Labonte ok after hard crash at Watkins Glen

One of the worst road-course crashes in years brought out a red flag with eight laps to go Sunday in the Centurion Boats at The Glen Sprint Cup race Sunday at Watkins Glen International. Bobby Labonte limped away from the terrifying nine-car accident and was transported to a local hospital. Petty Enterprises officials said Labonte was evaluated and released from the hospital and has no injuries. The red flag lasted 43 minutes.
The crash started when #00-Michael McDowell and #38-David Gilliland bumped door panels as they came around Turn 11, the final turn on the course. The collision caused both cars to slide across the track and slam hard into a tire barrier. Gilliland’s car bounced back sideways on the track before it was T-boned by Labonte’s car, sending pieces of sheet metal flying into the air as both cars were destroyed. Labonte’s No. 43 Dodge spun to the inside barrier before coming to a stop. Labonte climbed out quickly but visibly was in pain.

Well thts definatley good news, damn shame he had to be part of that, to guys who are truly lucky to be here (38 & 00) had to cause such a disaster, unlike in other message boards where people comment on drivers celebrating saying they are idiots, I disagree these are 2 idiots right here that causse this accident, and Blaney that guy just cant catch a break well atleast all are ok,
I think Rookies should be told to STAY AWAY FROM EACHOTHER AT ALL TIMES during a Cup race. lol.. black flag them if they come within 5 feet of eachother. =P
I don’t see what everybody is freaking out about, about that wreck. That is a COMMON Wreck for that track, and every year at least 2-3 or the 4 or 5 series that race there have an accident that is very similar to that. Heck the wreck only looked so bad because in NASCAR there are so many cars close together, where as in other series that race there the cars get spread out a bit more.
NASCAR, thought something was going on, they called both the 00 and the 38 into the trailer!
they were beatin doors all the way down the long back strech before they caused that wreck.

After a wreck they usually call some of the teams to the trailer to try and make sure that it doesn’t carry over to next week.
I didn’t see anything in earlier laps to indicate that the 38 warranted a quick left turn tap from the 00 on that last turn before all hell broke loose. I rewatched it on Raceview…and well, it’s quite apparent that the 00 of McDowell was sending a little message there. Either case…all parties involved are quite lucky no one was more seriously injured. Bobby Labonte is probably very bruised today from it. The way I see it…ol’ Mr. McDowell will be lucky to find a ride and keep it, if he keeps driving like Smoke on a bad day.
Gilliland will be fined….That is my prediction….
APRIL
Thats a pretty dumb thing to say about smoke, trust me gilliland and mcdodo would love to be as good as smoke on his bad day, smoke has forgotten more about racing then these 2 fools will ever know, damn shame the only time your hear about mcdowell is because he has been involved in to major accidents, yates and mwr need to boot these to fools, mikey said tonight he is bringing in skinner to help the team like he did with the redbull, i say you cant make chicken salad out of chisken SH*T
Rowdy…let me clear that up for you…’driving like Smoke on a bad day’ means…bumping into people who piss you off…and making a habit of it. Nothing wrong with it…that’s racing. Don’t get your panties in a bunch…I like Smoke just fine.
LOL my panties in a bunch, actually it was a wedgie but i picked it and feel so much better, lets face it smoke can get away wth more cause hes an established driver, these 2 guys are just turning laps
Hey April, are you related to Bill?
Like I said in an earlier post, this was just a racing accident and no big deal, It just looked worst than it was because the water barriers were filled with sand and it flew everywhere. Turn 11 produces accidents all the time and NASCAR called them in and nothing happened. David is really good on road courses and Michael just needs to learn more.
If it was up to ROWDY he would fire everyone, get rid of the tires, and do away with the cars. If you dont like anything about this sport go back to your F1 cars.
After watching and rewatching, this fiasco, it’s a wonder,it was’nt worse then it was!! lol to our drivers that was involved !!!
I am just glad Bobby was ok. It looked really bad for him.
HOWIE
WOW what a cheap shot, first of all i love it how you single me out, when there are more people then just me with the same opinion, i wouldnt fire anyone thats for sure, as for tires they did awesome far better then the badyear fiasco at indy, and i happen to like the cars, i mean damn look at hornishes car after that WOW for him to be able to finish the race was amazing, and im not really an f1 fan that much but thanks for the support to go back to f1. the bottom line is 2 guys were beating and banging and caused a huge accident it and everyone is lucky more people were seriously injured
someone is beating on someone every week rowdy, please go back to f1!!!
