Kyle Busch and Steve Wallace disqualified at Snowball Derby-UPDATE

A statement from Steve Wallace: “I just want to make it clear that although our car supposedly missed one of the inspection criteria in Pensacola, it was in no way done in an attempt to get around the rules. From day one, I have had a deep respect for the sport and its integrity. As far as I’m concerned, that respect carries over to any team for which I drive, as was the case with Richie Wauters Racing in this weekend’s race. We definitely had the car to beat in Pensacola, but for one reason or another, the officials were really hard on both of our teams all week long. We got disqualified because they claimed that we missed one of the inspection criteria by a razor thin margin; a margin small enough that it could have been due to almost anything.

Steven Wallace and Kyle Busch’s cars were both disqualified in post-qualifier tech after initially making it into the field. Kyle Busch wasn’t too happy. He was tossed from the event due to a height infraction. Both Busch and Steven Wallace were very irate in the pit area and told Speed51.com that they are displeased with Ricky Brooks (head tech inspector) and his philosophies.
Steven Wallace was found to be light when crossing the scales after tech. They let the team roll off the scales and roll back on. During that time he was caught trying to put sockets in his pockets.

What, shrub mad? Can’t believe it. WAAAAAAAAHHHHHH
I know Ricky Brooks, had deal with him before, even if it’s right on the line he hits ya with penalty unless you kiss his ass, but no thanks, I’ll whup his ass….
hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha.
wah.
Steven Wallace…… thats sounds funny…. like something like your pops would do in the 80,s!
socks in the pockets! Funny! Been there before trying to make weight!
I give them a E for originality and an F for getting caught. Steven must have more of his dad in him than any one belived.
The great short track driver Ray Young said ” It’s only cheatin’ when you get caught.” That was a long time ago but it will always ring true. It’s basically a desire to win. Some want to win more than others and will do whatever it takes to succeed. They usually plead ignorance when they’re caught. We all know the driver NEVER has any idea of what the crew is doing at all times. I actually think the whole situation was more or less a pissing contest between local/regional officiating and 2 young NASCAR stars. It could’ve been handled better.
MUST HAVE BEEN THE CREW!!!!
So my question about being disqualified by a “razor thin margin” is why push that margin?
Steven got DQ’d for 3 or 4 pounds of weight. If you think your car is good enough to win,
how about making it so there is no way it can be light at the end. Same thing with the
Busch car…..was their car that bad that they needed to push the height limit or could they
have made it obviously legal and still gotten in? Maybe their cars werent that good after
all since neither one of them qualified on time…….
Where does the part about him being caught putting sockets in his pocket come from. What I saw on speed51.com only said the following.
“Both Steven Wallace and Kyle Busch’s cars were qualified into the Snowball Derby via the last-chance races (Jason Hogan raced Busch’s car), however both cars were bounced from the field after failing post-qualifier tech. Both drivers were upset with the calls. Speed51.com spoke to both of them and will have more next week on what happened from all angles.”
While I don’t doubt that there was cheating I don’t think something like that should be printed if the original does not say that.
I do not know where this article received their information, but it is true. I was there and saw it with my own eyes… in addition, as much as I Ricky Brooks has too much of a conflict of intrest to run a tech area ethically, I did hear him repeatedly tell the crew that Busch’s car was too low, all week.
