Kenseth and Kahne fail inspection, qualifying times disallowed

Matt Kenseth and Kasey Kahne failed inspection after qualifying Sunday for the Daytona 500, and their teams could face harsh penalties before NASCAR’s season opener.
Their qualifying times were disallowed after inspectors discovered illegal modifications in each car. NASCAR said Kenseth’s Ford had illegal holes in the wheel well and Kahne’s Dodge also had illegal holes in an unspecified location. The holes may have improved the aerodynamics of their cars.
It’s the second consecutive year NASCAR discovered violations following pole qualifying. Last year, crew chief Chad Knaus was thrown out of the race after Jimmie Johnson’s car failed inspection. Knaus was suspended four races. Johnson rebounded to win the Daytona 500 the following week and they eventually reunited and won the Nextel Cup championship.
“We are committed to try to stop all the games being played,” NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said. “Obviously, the parties involved are going to have to tell the story however they want to tell it. But NASCAR is charged with maintaining the integrity in that garage area and we’re going to do whatever we need to do to do it.”
Hunter said NASCAR officials were planning to discuss the situation Sunday night, and that penalties could be expected Monday or Tuesday.

If they are guilty, their crew cheifs should be suspended just like Chad was. If its not right for one, it shouldn’t be right for anyone.
WELL IT SEEMS TO ME NASCAR WILL FIND THE SMALLEST THING ABOUT
A DRIVER THAT THEY THINK SHOULDNT BE AT THE TOP OF THERE GAME.
THINK ABOUT! SMALL HOLES IN THE WHEELS. YOU GOT TO COME UP
WITH SOMETHING BETTER THEN THAT. NASCAR FEELS LIKE THEY NEED
TO BE IN CONTROL…WELL THEY GOT TO FACE IT. THERES ALOT OF DRIVERS
OUT THERE THAT ARE SMARTER THEN THEM!!! LET THEM RACE!!!
I don’t think drivers and crews learned anything last year. Maybe it is time that NASCAR suspend the crew , driver and car from the race they cheated on and the next race also. Maybe they will start playing by the rules.
This is to tracy above:
What you are saying is coming from a person that said that if you were driving a toyota that you would cheat too so you could qualify? How hypocritical of you. You would cheat, but yet want those that cheat to be suspended for 2 races… LMAO Make up your mind. Blatant cheating isn’t right, pushing the limits of rules are a different thing. That is nascars problem, they don’t have absolutely everything that could be done to a car to make it a bit faster or drive better, and when the crews find a way to get around the rules that are in the books, they change the rule after finding it. They should just say that you can’t do anything different or leave things alone… they shouldn’t keep changing things as they go along.
That sucks - both of them were in the Chase last season too!
Of course, since Jimmy Johnson wasn’t fined any points or anything for Chad
Knauss’s infractions (it was at least his 2nd time caught) then Kasey and Matt
shouldn’t be fined anything different. Waltrip too.
Will these drivers EVER learn? jeez…I guess they think they’ll get away with it, but why the hell would any of the drivers be stupid enough to risk that in the Daytona? Its the most popular race that all the drivers look forward to winning. I dont get it, I think harsher punishments MIGHT work, but doubt it.
Well like was said early NASCAR or any other circle track racing is a place were every week teams push the rule to gain a upper hand. NASCAR rules get harder to bend every year and every year teams figure new ways to bend these rules to gain the upper hand.
Ok, so they made a couple of holes to improve airflow. It’s not
like they added an extra part to the engine. There has to be
some flexibility to get an edge on the competition within reason.
I think things are toooo strict but I’ll admit.. I don’t know the rules
inside and out .. but it just seems they are picking.
Maybe I’m wrong and don’t know what I’m talking about but that’s
my opinion.
that is so sad i didnt think that kasey would do that…:( hes my fave car driver…i mean…i dont know…
KASEY IM DISSAPOINTED IN U!!!but i still luv you…
