Kasey Kahne was suffering through a sinus infection Saturday, but the illness didn’t stop him from posting the fastest lap in Happy Hour. Kahne decided to skip the Sam’s Town 300 Nationwide race Saturday because of his illness. Gillett Evernham Motorsports teammate Patrick Carpentier replaced Kahne in the #9 Nationwide entry.
“After the first [Cup] practice, we knew we might do something to allow Kasey the time to get better for Sunday’s race,” said Mark McArdle, vice president of competition for GEM. “He’s been taking fluids and getting plenty of rest.” McArdle said they have Nationwide Series driver Jason Keller on stand-by just in case Kahne can’t drive Sunday or needs to get out of the car before the end of the race.
- Keller to test at Daytona for Gillett Evernham
- Burney Lamar to fill in for Biffle
- 6 Dodges crash in Las Vegas first Sprint Cup practice
- Gaughan to fill in for Gordon at Daytona testing
- First day of Goodyear testing at Las Vegas

I hope Keller gets in that car and wins!
Even if he does win, it’ll still list Kasey Khane as the winner of that race. l0l
Whats wrong does kasey need his mommy.
A sinus infection in Vegas? I get one everytime I go there!
Man up and drive!
Wow… the guy is sick… I guess people will slam anyone for anything…
I have a Sinus Infection right now and its not stopping me from driving my car… It only really bothers me when I lay down, or am in an almost layed down position, the rest of the time its just a bit of a stuffy nose.
Well hes on the track, so thats good.
too bad they said today that it ended up being more than a sinus infection…he has been battling the flu all weekend. and you really don’t feel like doing anything when you have the flu. i know i have it right now.
Well he got in the car…he started at the back of the bus…and drove that sucker in for a 7th place finish despite feeling like crap! So stick that in your juice box and suck it!
He sounded terrible at the end. Such a trooper!
Yes he did. He was ready to be done with the race. He asked for juice towards the end and sounded more nasally. Sitting in the rain in Fontana didn’t help me out…and so I was sick the same time he was…no fun. So he was a trouper to sit in that car and drive as awesome as he did!! Way to go Kasey!!
