Kasey Kahne slams NASCAR’s appeals process

“…you don’t have a shot when you go in.”
Asked Wednesday for his take on NASCAR’s appeals process, Kasey Kahne took the atypical approach of skipping the politics and stabbing straight to the core.
“My take is you don’t have a shot when you go in,” he said, stone-faced, other than a slight grin at the corner of his mouth.
He isn’t kidding. Kahne felt Evernham Motorsports carried a solid argument into the March 5 appeals hearing for the unapproved aerodynamic devices found on his No. 9 Dodge during prequalifying inspection for the Daytona 500, which resulted in hefty sanctions by NASCAR.
NASCAR penalized Kahne 50 driver points, docked team owner Ray Evernham 50 owner points, fined the team $50,000 and sent crew chief and team director Kenny Francis home for a month. That penalty was upheld at the appeal hearing.
What was the reasoning given for upholding the penalties?
“There was no answer [why],” Kahne said. “I did talk to a few people that were part of that [appeal], and they said you basically have a losing cause. If you’re not going to take the best case in the world you’re not going to win.”

they never have a reason just like how they never told us what was wrong w/ mikey’s car after daytona! there wasn’t anything wrong that’s why!
hey, just a hint to mister Anonymous, there was something wrong, theres not a legal car in that 43 car feild. i have been there and done that and i have seen more tech officials let cheated up cars go through than in any other racing series. y dont you think that kurt won all the sharpie races, jimmie wins the lowe’s races. sponsors run nascar. period.
It’s a monarchy i tell you.
I’m surprised they dont add to the penalties to teach team the teams not to waste their time.
I’m not so sure JP that Anonymous isn’t right about Mikeys’ car and whatever they won’t tell. How can you say there was sumthing wrong in the manifold…. insist it was a fuel additive and then say we are filing it under substance abuse and not telling anyone, when Jeremy Mayfield was found with Jet Fuel additive it was announced in big bold letters, why make such a huge deal over Mikeys car then turn around and go hush hush so far as to say it was substance abuse. Last I heard substance abuse will get you banned from the track so why is Mikey still there? As for Kasey he’s right you know going in your more than likely going to lose an appeal but they still do it to make a stand. NASCAR is 99% right all the time in there own eyes so most appeals are denied.
Actually they came out and said that Mikey had Jet Fuel it his car thats why his car failed inspection.
That was what they said when it happened then they said it was somthing added to the fuel but they had to do further examination of it. Then they said they would announce the following week at Las Vegas what it was but they still thought it was a form of Jet Fuel. When it came time to announce the findings Robin Pemberton said they weren’t going to tell what they found, when asked why he said it was noone’s business. It has always been someones business to know they didn’t even tell MWR what they found. And instead of telling what they found they filed the incident under the Substance Abuse policy. That policy is when a driver is found to have a drug in there system they don’t have to tell what it is but they can ban them from NASCAR for whatever time period they deem fair.
I sure do love my NASCAR and hated what happened to Mikey and the toyota teams It must have been a bummer just starting out with their car. I wish Nascar would just let them do whatever they can do and just butt in if its a safety issue! Let em rip like the old days and lets see who’s got the guts and takes the glory.
the “racenbug”
I agree with how it’s so ironic that Kurt Busch wins the Sharpie races,
Jimmie Johnson wins the Lowe’s races (like last week for example), etc.
etc. NASCAR is rigged.
Like I always say…It’s not who you know…it’s who you blow.
…and some drivers & teams get
barely a slap on the hand for doing
basically the samethings other teams
have been heavily penalized for—-
i’m sure we’ll all begin stating examples of this now!
I don’t consider that slamming Nascar. He was just stating facts.
jp is right. i read the first couple of replies and stopped, so if someone repeated the same thing, you are right too. racing = “cheating.” rulebooks are entirely too loose and left up for interpretation, just like the bill of rights, previous court cases, etc. etc. people who don’t recognize “cheating” as a huge part of racing must not have been around the dirt tracks too much. i’m 22 and i knew what was going on when i was 4. everyone wants to be faster than the other guy and everyone will do what they can to their car to ensure the fastest machine.
sure there are some exceptions, and i don’t want to hear about them, but in general teams know what they are doing and most of the time, they take their penalty. nascar is just getting out of control with the penalties and i think that’s why #9 appealed, all of the penalties and fines were crazy. then again, with the COT nascar is going to be boringly standard and it’s be a bigger snooze fest then it’s been before. i think tony george is thoroughly enjoying all of this right now. i think he’ll get a lot more crossover fans a lot quicker.
i’m a grammar nazi and i made a typo… i meant “it’ll be a bigger snooze-fest” instead of “it’s”. sorry!
have u ever though maybe the drivers are good at the tracks they have multiple wins in? one of u said jimmi johnson wins all the lowes races and said example last week. Las Vegas is not sponsored by Lowes. Obviously you dont know what your talking about. Look at dale jr., had a huge string of wins at talladega and it’s not sponsored by Budweiser. Nascar is NOT rigged. Certain race teams prepare for certain tracks. Example: DEI= restrictor plates (used to)
scratch that, Atlanta, not LV, isnt sponsored by Lowes.
