Kansas NASCAR Race to be Aired in Cleveland
Quote selected text Published August 23rd, 2006 in NASCAR NewsWKYC Channel 3 recently felt the wrath of stock-car fans when it aired an Indians game over a NASCAR race - and the NBC affiliate clearly has no interest in having more tire tracks on its rear.
Terry Moir, director of programming at Channel 3, says the station has changed plans to air the Oct. 1 Indians-Tampa Bay game so it can carry NBC’s Banquet 400 NASCAR telecast. Moir said the Oct. 1 Indians game instead will air on SportsTime Ohio, the team’s cable network.
“I can assure you we’re going to be showing the NASCAR race on Oct. 1,” Moir said with a laugh.
Last week, Channel 3 was flooded with irate phone calls and e-mail from viewers when it televised the Indians’ blowout win over Kansas City instead of NASCAR’s Watkins Glen race, causing fans to miss most of the latter, won by Kevin Harvick.
