Johnson holds off Stewart to win at Richmond

Double NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson held off Tony Stewart over the final 10 laps and won his second consecutive race with victory at Richmond, Virginia on Sunday.
Johnson overtook Martin Truex with 33 laps to go, yielded the lead briefly to Stewart, then regained it for his fourth victory of the season.
The race was the final event before the 10-race series for the NASCAR title.
Stewart finished second to Johnson, with Denny Hamlin third and Dale Earnhardt Jr. fourth.
They will be joined by points leader Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth and Clint Bowyer in the field for the championship run.
“I think our chances are good,” Johnson told reporters when asked about his bid for a third championship. “I think we have all the tools.
“If we don’t win, they can’t say we weren’t trying.”

Ha! I hate to say I told you so, but… um… I told you so.
Niiiice driving by Jimmie Johnson right there. Stewart was pissed. wow.
Congrats to HMS and there 3 drivers and to RCR on there 3 drivers for making the chase.
For ROWDY on saying JJ isnt having his typical season I told you he doesnt shine until the chase begins and Kyle chokes for the rest of the season.
man i cant believe stewart was still throwing his hissy fits, wow jimmie is soooo ready for the chase. i agree nice driving and very clean racin…ill tell u if i was ever in that sport ill be worried about wrecking a driver for a win
Great run for the Hendrick boys, they are a force to be reckoned with for the chase. Good luck TOYOTA your going to need it.LOL
Im not really a jj fan but like the other story other day with ROWDY here jj comes….

HOWIE
I guess I was wrong good thing SMOKE is a quiter like you said, otherwise he might have won. Good thing JJ had a quiter in front of him, or SMOKE might have won.
************NOTE***********
HOWIE called smoke the quiter not me.
HOWIE
You forgot to congradulate JGR, for all their drivers making the chase, and one of them even leading the chase points bsaed on WINS. After all you take toyotas pics they are keeping you in business. LOL LOL LOL and jgr is the sell out?????
Nah, Ol’ “Smoke” just got out-drove.
WELL According to howie he quit
I wouldnt congratuate JGR for making it in the chase. Right now they are all cry babies. Look at Tony today.Give me a break, he should get a TONY AWARD for his performance. Nothing like bringing your team down with insults and making afool of yourself. And Denny, another one who does not like his team and then theres poor old Kyle who had to be pulled aside to advise him he was on probation and not to say anything he would regret later. Joe needs to be a better coach if he is to win another championship. Bobby would never act like these 3
YEP
LOL once again KB had to be stopped from saying what he beleives, wether wrong or right he was censored. He should be able to say what he wants other then being a “IM SORRY PUPPET” im sorry he was silenced, waht kind of worls do we live in when we want the drivers true emotion, yet we want it censored. Howie Stick to your generic “STILL PHOTOGRAPHY” and dont try to preach you beliefs on everyone. Face it the sport is growing out as you are growing old. This is america drivers are allowed to have opinions, who cares if its right or wrong, afterall we want raw emotion thats why they have a camera shoved in there face 1 min. after the hop out of the car.
now this is what i call chase for the cup
80pts seperate 1- 12th

I wouldnt even want to photograph him after a race because I would be afraid my 5000. lens would crack.

Thats you losing money since you (HOWIE) the die hard chevy guy, is a sellout taking pics for toyota! Face it howie you got bought just like nascar. LOL LOL talk all that smack and you got bought. If you were a die hard chevy guy or even an old school cup fan you would not be such a sellout. Dale sr would so ashamed of you LOL LOL LOL LOL and just wait till HMS goes to ACURA as you have said they will do, then what.
How do you know hes a die hard Chevy guy? he probably is milking Toyota for all their worth like any other good businessman would do.
that lol lol lol lol lol is crap rowdy
I wish I would have gotten to this article sooner to say this.. but while your all bashing Tony for being pissed off, put yourself in that position. How many times has he come close to winning a race this season? I’m going to say about 4. He has been the strongest car all day, hitting every mark perfectly, and then one of the Hendrick boys comes and crashes his party. Everytime he has been close to winning a race, one of them comes out of butt-f**k nowhere and ruins it for him. How the hell would that make you feel? Exactly. Like you wouldn’t be frustrated. Oh, but the clean cut Hendrick boys would NEVER do that, so that means nobody else can do it. Give me a break.
Before you bash a driver for their actions DIRECTLY after a race they put their heart and soul into, put yourself in their position.
Sushstewart20 wrote:
Exactly and what do all these people act most of the time when a big name driver makes a little mistake? They’re just a bunch of hypocrites. I would be pissed too being that close to winning. He’s a competitive driver and the guy hates to lose.
Sushstewart20 wrote:
Its what Tony said on the radio that is what people are talking about.
Hes the one who told his guys “Thanks for giving another one away” and insulted his crew chief and crew.
Like ZIPPY said “we win as a team, and we loose as a team”. i didnt see anything wrong with his pitstops. Its one thing to be mad and its another to blame on your team, those guys bust there butts for him.
ROWDY BUSH wrote:
I think he was mad that he didn’t get out of the pits on the last pit stop in first, which he would of had a better shot at winning. But, still he was hot-headed and took it out on his crew. He changed his act when he got out of the car though which was good to see.
Whether he was going about it the right way or not, it was refreshing to see a driver ticked off about finishing second. I’m getting tired of drivers being like “Well we had a good run today but we just got out performed on the last run”
Fisha
I agree except for what he said about his crew, blaming them and all. I justt dont agree with that, I know he was pissed but dont blame the crew. Thats why I love smoke and KB cause they arent affraid to speak, you know I find it ironic, everyone was expecting KB to be pissed and have bad attitude after the race, and probably expecting smoke to have a good attitude after a good run, and both had the exact opposite
ROWDY BUSH wrote:
They each had a cool down session before they were talked to and Kyle was reminded that he was on probation and that is why he was so cool. This morning there was 2 meetings at Gibbs and the first one was with Joe and his Cup Crew Chiefs and Car Chiefs. After that meeting was over there was another with the 3 Cup drivers and the crews and it is rumored that there are serious internal problems in the Cup ranks at Gibbs. After Denny told his team they were incapable of getting him a championship in Michigan and Tony told his team that they were losers yesterday this might have been some sort of morale booster but JD Gibbs was not present at these meetings this morning which has a lot of people wondering what is going on at Gibbs.
They had this meetings today, where did you find this out at?????????????????
Rowdy, Gibbs has been having those two meetings every Monday after a race weekend since 1991. Actually most teams do that.
As far as what Smoke said, Trust me as somebody who has been working as a crew members on race cars (albeit local/regional drivers) I’ve heard everything Smoke said many many times before. That’s just part of racing and crew members need to learn to just let those kind of comments roll off of their shoulders. And honestly if you listen to the NASCAR scanners on NASCAR.com (or a radio if you are at the track) you’ll hear lots of drivers say similar things, I think this one is only magnified becuase it’s Smoke, it’s his final year at JGR, his performance isn’t that great this year, and the Toyota thing.

really fisha, for a girl you seem to know alot about what teams do and dont do, but I have been with a team for over a season and a half now and I must have missed alot of meetings then because Im on a winning team and we never had those meetings on a monday. and anyone can look up and see that joe gibbs has been in business since 1991, thats no secret.
ROWDY BUSH wrote:
hes probadly like me who works for team or knows someone who does and I know that the this weekend denny and tony had a little disagreement. but I do know that Kyle is in Milwaukee today with us .

Umm where do you get that I’m a girl, because I’m not.
FISHA
Your right and I know what you mean by hearing stuff over the scanners, I just hate it when I follow a drivers such as KB and SMOKE and then they say something like that, cause people blow it out of proportion and make way more of an issue then it is. Ultimately I would assume all that does is have a negative impact on the teams, not being on one Im not sure, just how I would feel. The reason i asked about the meeting because kyle18fan reminds alot of someone else on here with his knowledge and the way he speaks.
Who cares.
Anyone see Lewis Hamilton drive another fantastic race in the rain
in Belgium?
No, most of you were watching drivers drive in circles and throw hissy fits at their
crews after the race.
ROWDY BUSH wrote:
It wasn’t blown out of proportion Tony said it on the radio and ESPN had his in car on national television telling his crew they were screw ups, now I know where Denny gets his anger from. They dont know how to work like a team anymore and the pressure is getting to them. They will be lucky to make another 10 weeks together.
THETRUTH
LOL I did see that, that was insane, i loved it when KIMI and HAMILTON were battling in the the rain came out of that one turn when that car was re-entering the track Hamilton went wide and and KIMI split them, that was awesome, then he wrecked, but yeah good race by hamilton, and whats up with masa and kimi pinching each other off at the start, gotta love a weekend at spa
Well Howie according to you tony gave up and quit long time ago, so maybe he was that he did so good. Its people like you howie who get on here and spew BS, you dont know what goes on that team other then the rumors you hear. Im sure everyone will be fine next week. They dont know how to work as a team, if anyone does zippy and that 20 team, after the first championship with all that controversy that surrounded that year, zippy hel that team together and they got the championship. So stop it with the JGR bashing.
Howie, I had the race scanner hooked up to my SURROUND SOUND SPEAKERS in my house and didn’t hear ONE WORD you claim Tony said to his crew. The only time he said something about his crew was after the race. I was so happy to be able to use the raceview for free on sunday that I hooked it up to my speakers and I muted the T.V so I could just listen to the scanner and not the commentators. Trust me, I would have heard him say something, because I left the scanner on until the computer voice said “Please tune in next week for the next race” or something like that, which means the radios are turned off and there is no more feed.
<— This girl knows what she’s talking about.
ROWDY BUSH wrote:
You really need to grow up, you are the only one on here with BS. I have been around Tony since he started and he has always been like this and it is getting old. I dont spread rumors because I am there all the time and I know first hand. Greg is getting sick of him and probadly cant wait for this year to end. Poor Darien Grubb said Sunday night he might have made a bad decision signing with Tony saying “I hope I can last a year with that guy”
HOWIE
LOL youve been around him, what you mean to say is you have been stalking him with a camera. I find it amazing how you know every detail of every driver adn there teams and what they are thinking. You say poor darien grubb im sure if he felt the same he wouldnt have left HMS
ROWDY BUSH wrote:
Again Idiot if you can read he said this last night, he had already decided to leave by then .And I dont stalk anyone I am friends with most of all these guys. Learn your facts and stop being a jealous idiot.
Sushstewart20 wrote:
Well it was played over and over and it is the most popular story of the race so I don’t know what you been listening to but its on every NASCAR site around and in all the columns. why don’t you take a look for yourself since it is the most talked about story.
Sushstewart20 wrote:
Maybe you should turn your speakers up more, now you can listen to it again

HOWIE
LOL LOL LOL I know im an idiot you got me, your friends with these guys. Im glad you arent firends with me up here on the internet spewing my dirt laundry everywhere, what kind of friend are you. As for you being friends with these guys Ill admit i have spent time with 2 drivers, and my best friend is a spotter for another, and i have spent alot of time with these guys and I have and would never repeat anything i have heard, for one im not sure if its going to happen and i dont need to be the wanna be know it all actinglike i do know it all, cause i dont want to look dumb when im wrong. With that said i know i dont know half the people you do nor do i want to cause i love the fan aspect of this sport, but i will say when i brought up your name at THE BRICKHOUSE lol lol the jokes that followed were priceless, your not as liked as you think before you say this is untrue, how do you think i got your last name and i even got your phone number or maybe a business number. So i know i dont all the people you know but i also dont claim to know them all and act like they all adore me when dont.
Then NASCAR must have cut that out of the raceview scanner because i NEVER heard that and I was listening the whole time.
I doubt there were any jokes about me at the tavern because I am only there when Im up on the lake or doing something at the shops. As far as getting my last name and phone number everyone in the sport has it.Its no secret. Fans, Crew members, Drivers, PR people all have my number. I have been living out here with these people for years and when Tony lived on the lake we partied all the time and when stripper fishing all the time.
I understand somebody getting mad for getting second, especially if they’ve been constantly doing it. But don’t blame it on your pit crew. Tony’s crew did a great job in the pits from what I saw on television. As a crew member of a dirt team, It would be a total slap in the face for my driver to say that. Tony had to have some remorse after that–at least I would hope so. Jimmie just beat him. The crew had no way of helping him out there on the track. Even if Stewart would have beaten Jimmie off of pit road he probably would have gotten passed on the outside by the 48.
LOL LOL LOL LOL
STRIPPER FISHING, LOL thats a good new to term for chasing strippers. Well Im on the lake all the time I live on the lake, and even though we have had our differences on here, you are more then welcome on one of my boats, either the mastercraft for wakeboarding nd skiing, or we can take the shamrock out to hatteras for some real fishing. I dont know if the jokes were meant to be mean or as ajoke just saying what I hear. As for tonys house I have been there once he wasnt there but I do memeber JJ being at smokes house with a bunch of other guys and jj having had a few cocktails some hoe breaks the elevator and calling smoke while he was at appearence.
TREY
That and smoke had to turn around harvick while JJ was able to drive straight out. but yeah smoke was a out of line there, but im sure that team has heard this before, i love smoke and his attitude but i agree i wish he hadnt called out his crew. I did like when zippy stuck up for the crew and said they could have gone without smoke stalling out on pit road, and smoke said but yeah the difference is I made mine up, Zippy sticking to his team that was awesome
Greg should defend the team, that team will be Joeys team next year and Tony didn’t stop there, after his little cool down, he came out to be interviewed and gave everyone more crap. He needs to concentrate on the last 10 races and forget about all his press conferences and S.H.R.
Hey Howie I heard that after the race Zippy and Smoke had to be seperated.
Man you guys really drag things out whenever Stewart gets mad. It happens and to tell you the truth it’s pretty much the first time I’ve seen him mad this year. I’m hoping he seals the year with at least 1 win and a shot at the championship. Can’t wait to see him and Newman next year trying to get that team going.
Howie why would I be jealous of you.
You just sit there an take pictures of everything that goes on.
Your one of those people I highly dislike, one who drops names
to appear like they are big time when merely they are in a role
equivalent to a janitor.
Rowdy:
Yea its gonna be interesting at Monza because you know Ferrari want
to bury everyone at their home track but it looks like Hamilton
may have something to say about that…
By the way Hamilton was wrongly penalised by the FIA…but he drives
for McLaren so thats to be expected
THETRUTH
I cant wait till monza, I love KIMI but he needs to step up. He nneds to show who the leader of that team, afterall he was pushing masa off the track at the start. I was impressed with Masa after the race though he played that incident off like it was no big deal. yeah Hamilton is on top of things, and he is young, im not sure whats funnier though hamiltons dad wrecking the enzo or hamilton running into to kimi on pit road when he was stopped. hamilton almost had it last year this could be his year.
Raikonnen had the pace to win this weekend but didn’t
and lost valueable championship points
its gonna take a repeat of his incredible run to the top last year
to get there this year…
I hope he does it!
THRUTH AND AMP
I agree i love kimi to, what the hell happened on sunday, for the matter whats happened to happed kimi the last few weeks. Hamilton is definatley on top, but then again he was doing good last year. Ijust want kimi to come out over top of masa, i cant stand masa. Hey do youll think Heki looks like a blond jeff gordon. Evertime i see him he reminds me of gordon.
lol i can see it between Heikki and Gordon.
I dont know what Raikonnens deal is.
I mean..at the beginning of the race he sucks and
as the race wears on his pace gets quicker…it strange for sure.
Kenneth we need a F1 blog on here please
