Jimmie Johnson Two-time NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and Gillette have “severed ties on the ‘Young Guns’ program,” and Johnson is looking for “an agency to help him market his on-track success,” according to Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal.

The story in this week’s issue says the Hendrick Motorsports driver wants to capitalize on winning back-to-back Cup titles “with the type of off-track deals that will broaden his appeal and take his endorsement reach beyond the race track.”

sounds like he’s full of himself.

  2. 2 RedDevil

Lol, thinks he’s the big shot now doesn’t he?

  3. 3 MoFo

Well, the whole young guns thing is a crock anyway considering all of the guys are in their 30’s. Not saying that’s old or anything, but there are dozens of drivers who they have a decade on.

  4. 4 Aimee

No offense intended MoFo, but Kahne is still in his 20’s.

  5. 5 Sarah

*rolls eyes* Now he is above certain sponsors?

The idea of young guns is kinda farfetched.. but what guy that is above the age of 13 doesn’t shave? And most of us use some Gillette product before, during, or after shaving.

The only reason I can see dumping Gillette is if he already has another company that offers the same products as Gillette lined up.

  7. 7 husky

i heard he was going to market adult diapers!

  8. 8 Amanda

    HAHAHA Husky.. awesome :) lol

  9. 9 ME

I was thinking he should market those little rainbow stickers certain people put in the back of their vehicles.

  10. 10 Shawn

I think that the younger pups should be the young guns, like Kyle Busch and others that are under 25. Don’t have someone in their 30’s considered Young Guns! If you look at it, all of the Young Guns are over 30!

  11. 11 Lee

Whats he gonna use to shave those stupid lookin eyebrows hes got now?

  12. 12 hot rod tod

he wants to be a rock star like dale jr!

  13. 13 Trish

All the negativity on this choice by Jimmy Johnson is petty. He does have a right to withdraw from the Young Guns. Whatever he chooses to do next with a sponsor is up to him. It’s a real bummer when the man wins 10 races in 2007, and then the Nextel Championship for the second time in a row. Oh how some love to bad mouth the winners. He’s a class act and he wasn’t one of my “want to win” drivers.

And here we go… The next thing will be an issue between himself and junior in the garage and then eventually, a bigger helmet.

  15. 15 Jeff

You guys missed the hint… It’s in the title: “looking for broader appeal”. He’s dumping Gilette to hook up with those Venus razors for broads!

  16. 16 jimmyjohnsonfan4ever

    Once agin…DON’T HATE!!!!!!!

  17. 17 HoppyGirllllllll

Goody. They test on animals. All the other “young guns”(?) should drop them as well.

So what if they test on animals. They test cures for cancer on animals too….. do you have a problem with that? If you do your shallow and self centered.

I think Jimmie is starting to believe his press clippings! Broader appeal? I too, think he’s a little bit full of himself. So he’s not associating himself with personal hygiene products. Hmmm? Does he want to do Cadillac, Hummer or Rolex commercials? Is that what the average race fan relates to? Luxury items? Is he now “sophisticated”? Fine wine and real estate commercials? What does Jimmie want? Virgin Airways? There’s always “The Clapper”.

I’d say he is full of himself didn’t see Smoke dumping sponsors after his second cup title! Talk about conceit! Jimmie has plenty of it. No wonder he’s not even in the top 5 most popular drivers.

  21. 21 4 speed

Gigolo George & Erin are so full of it they don’t even deserve a response.

You all just wish you had the talent that Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have. You call them names, but Skill is SKILL! Tony Stewart needs to be a young gun, he always looks like he is coming out of his box out of the slums. He is fat and going to Toyota. Toyota’s don’t belong in American racing. When one of you can race and win 2 championships in a row, and be in the chase every year like Jimmie has worked and driven himself into, then you can judge. I am so sick of people saying they are gay. Both have beautiful wives, and so it must just be a jealousy thing. Dale Jr made the choice to join a winning team. Personally I think that it is a great decision. His dad would be proud that he didn’t let his step mom take advantage. He needs to be on a team that supports him and provides better equipment to race with.

This is going to by Jimmie’s 7th year in the Cup Series. He isn’t a “young gun” anymore. Geez…. He is a sports figure… he can pick and choose whatever sponsor he wants. You know why he is at that level? Because he earned it with 33 wins and 2 championships in 6 years. I will say it over and over again. Jimmie Johnson is the best thing to come to Nascar in years. And you all better get used to him if you’re going to watch Nascar because he is turning into the face of the sport. No, he isn’t full of himself. He just wants to get away from the “rookie” status as a young gun. I don’t blame him for that. It’s like ya’ll can’t stand to say anything good about him because he isn’t Stewart or Earnhardt, Jr.

  24. 24 MrsG

I hope Johnson don’t win alot of races this tear. His head barely fits through the window of the car now. He’s too conceted,he make me want to throw up!!!!!!

  25. 25 Trey

What in the world makes you think that? Nothing. It’s because you want to think that.

  26. 26 Anonymous

Jimmie Johnson was given top dollar equipment from day 1 in the Cup series. I believe, we know, it’s because he sucked up to Jeffy during his brief stint in the Busch series. There’s nothing wrong with that. The HMS organization took a chance on him and it paid off for everyone involved. Does anyone think Jimmie’s record would be as good as it is if he’d sucked up to Bill Davis or Junie Donlavey instead of Jeffy? Jimmie has done far better than Junior in the Cup series in a shorter amount of time (about 75 races less). Larry McReynolds was a genius as a crew chief as long as he had Earnhardt and Davey Allison. No one called him a genius when Skinner drove the #31 Lowes car for the better part of 5 seasons. Nor when he ran that Bernstein deal with Kinser, Brett Bodine and others in that old #26 car. Jimmie HAS done a wonderful job. How could he not be successful at HMS? But he is full of himself. That doesn’t make him a bad guy.

I would love to jump on the band wagon and say mean things about johnson but honestly i believe that he earned his place. I just think it will be fun to watch him compete with jr next year.

    AMEN!!!!

Wow, I smell of tinge of jealousy in here from alot of you. Jimmie isn’t conceited, and he also isn’t a “young gun” anymore since he is 32 and doesn’t need to be in that group if he doesn’t want to be. That doesn’t make him stuck up, you would do the same thing if you were in his situation… find the best sponsor for you and the best deal you could get that fit your personality and success. If you didn’t then you would be stupid and apparently not care whether you were in a good situation or not. Just because he blows every other driver away with wins and got 2 championships in a row by EARNING it, doesn’t mean you have to hate the guy. If you would ever take the time to actually listen to what he says in interviews and how he says it you would automatically jump to conclusions about him being a whiner or being conceited. He is far from either one of those. Get a life.
