UPDATE:
The following is a statement from J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) since October 1997, about the return of his father, Joe Gibbs, to JGR after spending the past four years as head coach of the NFL’s Washington Redskins.
“Obviously, it’ll be great to have him back here on a regular basis. It’s a biased opinion because he’s my dad, but there’s so much that he brings to the table. He has such a gift for leading a team. He’s been coaching for 40 years and a leader of this race team since we formed it in 1992. Having him back will be a huge encouragement to our 430 families and a benefit to all of our corporate partners. I know my dad loves the Redskins and thinks the world of Dan Snyder (Redskins Owner). As a huge Redskins fan myself, I’m thrilled he will remain in partnership with Dan as a consultant, helping the Redskins wherever he can in the years to come. As far as my role with the team goes – nothing changes, just like nothing really changed when he went back to the Redskins in 2004. I guess it’s a good thing I never moved into his office. We’re all working really hard to win races and championships, just like we always have.”

After the toughest season of his Hall of Fame career, one that tested his leadership like never before, Joe Gibbs is stepping down.
He retired as coach and team president of the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, three days after a playoff loss ended an inspirational late-season run that followed the death of safety Sean Taylor.
Gibbs will remain as a special adviser to owner Dan Snyder and was to discuss his retirement at an afternoon news conference at Redskins Park.

good, now he can focus on teaching his son how to run a championship caliber NASCAR team, and JGR will once again dominate. I wonder when its gonna be Childress’s turn. He has the talent in his stable. he needs to unmerge his engine program with DEI, that was a bad move.
Hasn’t he retired as their coach like 2 or 3 times before? I’ll believe that he is retired from coaching football when he dies.(not meant as disrespectful)
Well at least he can focus on the new Team with Toyota, I am sure he will have his hands full.
Toyota gave him so much money, he doesn’t have to coach to make ends meet.
Fisha, he retired one other time from coaching the Redskins and they talked him into coming back. He’s getting up there in age, and I think he felt like he still had it in his blood (and could still be competitive) so he came back for one last run. I think now he has realized, as Bill Parcells did, that the game has passed him by and he’s not going to get another championship, so he went out somewhat on top by taking the team to the playoffs after all they went though.
I think it’s good… He’ll be able to focus more on JGR, and God knows they can use it with the switch to Toyota, adding Kyle, etc…
Hes done coaching, the redskins have a good team and there young if he was after a another superbowl the next 2 to 3 years wouldve been his best shot.
he’s probably coming back so he can help keep stewart in line this year when he can’t finish higher than 20th because he’s in a toyota.

You obviously have not looked at the single car and Drafting testing speeds. Dodge is the car that will be the bottom halfe of the field along with Ford. Toyota is running better then chevy.
Never trust testing speeds. Toyota was quick in testing last season too. The top teams don’t show all their cards until speedweeks
