Jeff Gordon ties for sixth on win list
Quote selected text Published April 23rd, 2007 in NASCAR NewsAs a four-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion, Jeff Gordon (No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet) owns no shortage of career milestones. The latest occurred with a victory in the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway that tied him with seven-time series champion Dale Earnhardt for sixth place on NASCAR’s all-time win list.
Gordon’s 76th career win came in his 481st career start and was his first at Phoenix International Raceway. Aside from series titles in 1995, ‘97, ‘98 and 2001, Gordon also has 59 Budweiser poles, 219 top-five and 294 top-10 finishes. His to-date career winnings total is in excess of $84 million.
At age 35, Gordon is in his 16th NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series season. He has driven for the same team — Hendrick Motorsports — since his debut in November 1992, at the age of 20. He has averaged five wins per season; if Gordon competes at the same rate for five more years, he’ll accrue more than 100 career victories.
Earnhardt’s 76th victory came Oct. 15, 2000 at Talladega Superspeedway — his 676th career start. He was 49 years, five months and 16 days old at the time. He competed from 1975-2001 for a total of 27 seasons. Earnhardt drove for eight different owners. He had 22 Budweiser Poles, 280 top-five and 427 top-10 finishes. His career winnings total is $41,531,211.
Other drivers with 76 or more career wins include Richard Petty, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip — all NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champions.

Go Jeff & Junior; The Two Best Drivers In Nascar. Some May Hate Gordon But He Was One Of Seniors Best Friends Before He Died. They Had Alot Of Business Ventures And They Would Do Alot Of Things Together. So Good Job Gordon, And I Hope Little E Gets Right Up There Too.
Well as much as I hate Jeff Gordon I do have to say that his show of respect for Dale was comendable. No matter if Jeff wins every race from now on in his carrer he will never be as good as Dale sr. His show of respect for Dale at the race made many Dale fans happy that he did not say he was better but showed respect for the best drive to ever race in Nascar. Jeff earned a few points in my mind but Im still not going to be a fan simply a supporter and as long as the Toyota’s dont start winning I’ll be happy with Jeff doing good.
Gordon showed the world how classy he is. I was sitting in turn one when I saw him waving the #3 flag, I that that was really cool. I know if Sr. was alive and racing he would have put a big ole doughnut on the side of Gordons car.
As far as the fans that threw stuff on the track, I just dont understand them. They probally still blame Sterlin Marlin for Dale Sr’s death. These people dont think about the fact that the could hit someone in the head with their can or bottle of Bud. I think that anyone who gets caught doing that should be banned from the tracks. I know it would be hard to do, but thats what I think.
Fans throwing debris should be banned from the track. Just as they
are in NBA games. They all talk about who has the most class as a
driver, but don’t they realize what lack of class they portray?
these are good stats. they show that it took gordon almost 200 less races to reach the 76 wins mark then it did for sr. to reach it.
Here is some more good stats.
While Sr was alive and racing the same time as Gordon, Gordon won 52 times, Sr. won 23 times.
Gordon won 29 more races than Sr.
