Jeff BurtonJeff Burton made a smart late-race stop for new tires and they helped him capture Saturday night’s Camping World 300 Busch Series event. The No.29 Chevrolet driver crossed the finish line 2.627 seconds ahead of Kyle Busch.

The victory was Burton’s third of the season and 25th of his Busch career. With the win Burton takes sole possession of fourth all-time, one more than Tommy Houston.

Denny Hamlin brought the field to the green flag for 150 laps around the high- speed, two-mile California Speedway oval. He led seven laps before Busch went flying by him for the lead. Burton and Brian Vickers also slid around the pole winner for second and third place, respectively.

Vickers was the fastest car on the track and on lap 22 become the third different race leader. He built a lead of more than two seconds as the field approached their first round of pit stops. The No.10 Toyota remained the leader after the stops, while the big “loser” was Busch who was caught speeding on pit road.

It seemed that Burton’s No.29 Chevy team made the right adjustments as he went flying around the outside of Vickers on lap 62.

A four-car accident on lap 67 slowed the action, just the second yellow flag of the race. The race was red-flagged and it appeared that Brad Keselowski suffered a leg injury. He was transported to the local hospital via helicopter, but was awake and alert.

Better Burton than Busch. Busch should have crashed on lap 1.
