well I hate to say this but…Jarrett Needs to retire…
Put him in a chevy and see what he does.Look at Mark.
He’s way past his prime but he may be ok with a good team
i agree wit ben put him in a chevy and see wut happens it
worked out great with mark
I agree, put him in a chevy!!!
Dale would be much better off leaving Toyota altogether
DJ doesn’t need to put up with MWR and his HORRIBLE CARS!! that he keeps on putting out.
Not DJ fault the car sucks as much as they do.
He should sign with a different team ware they will give him a good car.
Mikey doesn’t know how to make a good race car.
Thats why his only real where all with DEI. All 3 of them.
Nascar is the only racing series in the world one can race until they are on Social Security.
DALE ……. made his bed in the wrong place this time …. Maybe he needs to be on the other side of the fence…. Like in the broadcast booth … He hasn’t got the job done for some time now … There is plenty of new talent comming up…. MOVE OVER OR GET RUN OVER DALE!!!!!!!!!!!Sad but its true!!!!!!
Let’s face it folks hes in his 50’s. He is washed up he has never been that great anyway. He had acouple of good years its time for him to call it quits. He should retire while he can and while the getting out is good.
StevenLanders-Are you f__king kidding me? HE’S A CHAMPION. To say he’s
never been that great is a HUGE showing of ignorance. Just because
he’s not flashy and always in the spotlight all the time doesn’t mean
he isn’t talented. Hell Terry Labonte’s a 2time champ and he was never
in the spotlight either.
I think it’s guys like DJ you have to respect most. They get the job
done without hardly any pomp or circumstance.
I agree he hasn’t got much done as of late. But Yates’s cars still
aren’t doing much with the current drivers, and obviously Mikey’s cars
aren’t doing anything. Give him one more chance and put him in a
worthwhile car. I think he’s got something left.
DJ can still drive and win in Mickey’s cars, Please give DJ and Mikey more time. Good things are on the way.
I have loved dj from the start, he’s a great driver, and if put with a better teamam team that team and doesn’t drive toyota. he will show those punks what it’s up. it’s not his fault the toyota moters suck. like I said put him in a diffrent car. he wi8ll show every one!!
Put the man in a Chevy, and i will bet he will be one of the top contenders again!
I agree, he didn’t do real well with ford,so put him in a chevy, then go dale go
Jarrett won 1 race in the#21 car as Neil Bonnett’s replacement in 1991. Joe Gibbs and Jarrett’s brother-in-law Jimmy Makar custom built the #18 Interstate Chevy for him prior to the 1992 season. He didn’t do much the first year there. He won Daytona for Gibbs in 1993. He won about 5 races for Gibbs. How did he repay Joe? He jumped ship to the Yates #28 in 1995 which opened the door for Bobby Labonte. Bobby left the #22 Bill Davis team because they had cash/sponsor problems. Then in 1996, Yates created the #88 Quality Care team. Jarrett won Daytona for Yates that year along with the Brickyard 400. He was the first guy to win both of those races in the same year. All the while Ernie Irvan was recovering. Then Yates dumped Irvan for Kenny Irwin. Irwin won the 1998 ROTY award but no races. Then they basically sacrificed Irwin’s promising career. They built a new shop for Jarrett. They quit sharing information and won the 1999 title. Irwin left to drive the #42 for Sabates in 2000. Then Irwin died at Loudon on 7/7/2000 when the throttle stuck. Jarrett was hard to beat with that Yates horsepower. As was Davey Allison. Then Yates lost touch with the engineering stuff and his teams sank. Both of his drivers wanted out in 2006. Sadler got out first. Jarrett fattened his bank account and got a Toyota dealership by going to MWR. He claims the dealership was a possibility before he left Yates. You be the judge. Here’s a recap of Jarrett’s career. Neil and Ernie became vegetables for a while and Davey Allison died. Kenny Irwins’ career was stalled. Dale Jarrett has benefitted from every one of these tragedies in one way or another. His skills have diminished. He doesn’t have that Yates horsepower anymore. Too many crew chief changes. Jarrett has been more fortunate than good his whole Cup career. He’s too arrogant to realize it. That’s sad. I’ll take Jeffy or Tony on a bad day over Jarrett on a good day anytime.
you got it all wrong, jeffy and tony are the most arrogant drivers in Nascar. I think they both SUCK!!!
Okay, soooo. Basically you’re saying Dale Jarrett had a hand in
several drivers’ injuries and misfortunes. I suppose he pushed some
magic button that made Kenny’s throttle stick? It’s not his fault
that tragedy strikes in racing sometimes, and you apparently refuse
to look at it from the point of view that he was helping Yates by
keeping his cars running strong while all that was going on.
Saying Dale only did well because the cars were good when your
comparison drivers are also very talented is a moot point. It cancels
itself out. Any of them could of driven any car and done well.
Many drivers change teams. You see a better opportunity, you take it.
That’s how you make a good career.
And changing crew chiefs shows and proves nothing about a driver
whatsoever. Perhaps he just has a hard time finding somebody who fits
his style properly. Any race fan knows the driver and crew chief
have to have a good relationship and be able to understand each other
easily to be successful.
You can’t say Jarrett was trying to ruin the careers of the people
who got put on backburners for him either, because they could of been
dropping then anyway and Dale just reeped the benefits. Doesn’t mean
he said “Hey [[car owner]], put me first or I’m out.”
Lastly, how can he be considered arrogant when he’s never called
himself a great driver? He’s a true gentleman and just goes out, races,
very rarely talks anyone down [[though we all have our moments]], and
does what he can with the car he has.
gigolo George- first of all to say Jarrett benefited from the tragedies you were talking about is arrogant. DJ got in the 28 as a favor for Yates, yates seen his talent, just like gibbs, the wood brothers and mikey. To say he has been more fortunate then good is also a little shallow. Every one of those drivers who even attempt to make a race in the cup series, are there because they can drive a racecar. They have all been track champions in there hometowns, and have been doing this for years before we even heard of them. When the competition is as close as it is, you are right it is better to be lucky then good.
As far as Toyota is concerned, give them a year. They struggled to get that first win in the trucks and now they are very competitive over there. The new Nascar has forgotten abot DJ. Most new fans have never seen him run good. 7 years ago there wasn’t a track they went too where DJ was not a contender. Times have changed and everybody is racing against giants like hendrick and roush. If he sticks it out with mikey, he will get another win before he hangs his helmet up.
Breanna, I said Dale Jarrett gained at others expense. Nowhere did I ever say Jarrett killed or crippled anyone! He benefitted because others had very bad luck. None of it was planned. It was fate. For you to even insinuate I said Jarrett did any of those things is irresponsible on your part. And by the way Breanna, pro wrestling is fixed. They know how it’s going to end BEFORE the match. And to MWR fan, Dale Jarrett was fired by Cale in 1989 because he sucked and replaced by Dick Trickle who was actually older than Cale! Trickle was the ROTY for 1989. That was the highlight of his career. You don’t get paid to do favors. A favor is done for free. Jarrett didn’t drive for free. While at Gibbs, he did help develop and test the new 1995 Monte Carlo bodies and chassis set ups prior to the 1995 season. Dale Jarrett is a mercenary. He goes to war for the highest bidder and gets paid well for doing so. Don’t they all? Dale has been more fortunate than good. He got so bad he couldn’t win with Yates horsepower. That nitwit Gilliand and Rudd are having better years than Jarrett. If Jarrett is so great, how come he doesn’t have better stats? Jimmie Johnson, Jeffy, Tony and Junior have accomplished more in their first 6 years than Dale the Snail did in his first 9 or 10. He drove for Gibbs and Yates. Great teams and equipment from 1992-2006. Dale ’s father was the owner/promoter at Hickory when he started racing. His family has contributed a lot to NASCAR. His brother Glenn was a decent driver. He grew up in the sport. He should take a little more pride in the things he does. Right now Jarrett is like an actor that doesn’t read the script before signing on. He just takes the fat check and cashes it. Then after bad reviews, he blames his agent or his crew chief in this case.
What on earth does pro wrestling have to do with this? I watch the
WWE [[how you knew that, I don't know]] but I realize how fake it is.
I was laughing about it last night during the “draft”, for example.
It’s just a couple hours’ entertainment on an otherwise boring Monday
night. Oh and by the way, I was being sarcastic and using that to
point out how senseless your argument is in that it’s not his fault
any of that happened so you can’t judge him for taking advantage of
it.
Yates horsepower? He USED to have it. If his engines are so great
and it’s the cars and not DJ that were worthwhile, why aren’t his
cars leading the pack now? Oh yeah that’s right. Because the engines
went downhill, and THEN DJ stopped winning. Not because he didn’t
have the talent all along.
And first you say he’s arrogant, then you say he should take more
pride in what he does. Make up your mind, because that’s completely
contradictory.
gigolo george DJ has never once blamed his crew chief for anything and there have been times when the team owners have let a CC go that Dale wanted as his CC, but that is just the business of the sport. DJ is a very talented driver and he still has it, but if you look back the first year that Gibbs came into the business it was a slow start. So yes I expect that being a NEW team and have a NEW make in the FIRST year is going to have some troubles, but that does not mean that someone is washed up. Also Glenn was not that good of a driver that is why he left driving to commentate. And Cale did not fire DJ as you mentioned. DJ got a good deal and he likes the challenge which is why he went to Gibbs his first season and which is also why he decided to go the MWR because he knew there was going to be a challenge and that is what he wanted. He knew it would be slow to begin with. Also as for a dealership he had a huge Ford dealerships so going to Toyota for the dealership is highly doubtful. And as for you saying that Dale Jarrett gained at others expense. You could say the same for Kevin Harvick, sometimes things happen that no one can control and everyone benefits from another’s misfortune.
I for one hope that MWR and Toyota give DJ more of a chance then just half of a season. With the sport as competitive as it is right now it is going to be hard starting up a new team with a new car.
DJ came to Toyota with a goal to teach the younger drivers, and to help Toyota build its program. Now its not DJs, or Micheal’s fault that the MWR cars are not performing well. That team bit off more than they can chew when they formed the third team, simple as that. Look at the other Toyota teams, Red Bull is emerging as contenders, and if Dave Blaney wouldn’t always be getting caught up in messes not of his doing he would easily be in the top 20 in points.
DJ is not NASCARS’s or Toyota’s messiah. Toyota will be successful one day soon but not this year. Toyota has won at every level they’ve competed in up until this point. Vickers had done a decent job. So has Ruetimann. Blaney too. DJ is learning the Toyota engine and aero packages himself. Who actually thought he WAS the man for Toyota? Mikey signed him for provionals to make the first 6 races. They (MWR) believed they’d be better off with Jarrett than anyone else that was available at the time. Now it doesn’t look so good. Bill Elliott didn’t want to get involved with Mikey. Rudd didn’t want to get involved either. Red Bull wanted Rudd too. He knew Toyota would stumble. No one asked Texas Terry to get involved with Toyota. Now he’s a mentor! He helped tutor Jimmie, Jeffy, KyBu, Craven, Vickers and even some of the other series guys Hendricks had like Sprague. His record and accomplishments speak volumes, not pages. Now Terry is at it again. He is a teacher, mentor and has always been a team player. He’s a winner on and off the track.
Leslie, DJ did get fired/released from Cale’s team and was replaced by Trickle in 1989. DJ drove the Hardee’s car for Cale in the late 1980’s. DJ’s hand picked Gibbs team had Hendricks engines from 1992-1994. Great equipment. His brother-in-law was his crew chief. Then he went to Yates for 1995 in the #28 car. The Harvick deal is a good point. He cashed in when Big E passed away. That’s 1 person. Jarrett’s star rose when Bonnett, Irvan and Davey met with fate. That’s 3. Did you ever hear of the great Andy Kaufman? I’m pretty sure you did. He was a brilliant comedian and actor. He was kind of hard to get into at first. Strange, actually. Then his people ( management,PR. etc.) went looking for the NEXT big thing in comedy after he died. They found a guy. They threw everything they had to help make this guy a star. They succeeded. That guy was Jerry Seinfeld.
what is this he didnt do that great in a ford? he won the brickyard and the title in a ford and he won at talladega in 05 n a ford. i have no respect for him. what kind of idiot would leave ford for toyota. i hope he sucks for the rest of his career.
well joe nice attitude, Dale Jarrett is one of the greater giants in racing, I can remember a time when it was Jarrett and Gordon Neck and Neck all the way , his time is not over, he needs to move to a diffrent team, and car. Hope you have a great day!!
