Jarrett making his last points start at Bristol

When Dale Jarrett starts the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway March 16 it will be the 668th start in a successful 24-year career. It also will be the former Sprint Cup champion’s last points race as the North Carolina native hangs up his helmet this year.
The 51-year-old Jarrett opted to return this year, but only to run the first five races of the season. His last race actually will be the All-Star event at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in May, but BMS will be the last place he races for points. As a former BMS winner – he captured the Goody’s 500 (Aug. 23, 1997) – Jarrett says it is fitting that the World’s Fastest Half-Mile, where he made his first start in 1986, will cap what has been a very successful career.
“I was pleased whenever I saw the number (the fifth race) and as I started counting down to see exactly where it was going to be,” he said. “When I realized it was Bristol, I was pleased about that and it worked out too because I think it’s very fitting. It’s a place that I enjoy racing and there’s going to be so many fans there – and I know there’s 160,000 people there –but it seems like so many more than that. So it will be a fitting way for me to finish my racing as far as points racing goes.”
- Jarrett to run Busch race at Bristol backed by UPS
- Jarrett ready for final Sprint Cup race
- New paint scheme for Jarrett at Bristol
- Jarrett to make final start for Yates, then have surgery
- Bristol qualifying rained out, Johnson to start from pole

I really like Jarrett. He should have hung it up a few years ago, but I hate to see him go.
I will bet you he doesn’t make it past the 1/2 way lap…lol
About 3 yrs past his expiration date as a driver. He will do OK in the booth but don’t ask him for a autograph at the track, he only does that if he gets paid.
dale what a great run i have enjoyed your racing and your personallity you have been as big a part of racing as dale Earnhardt. THANK YOU for your dedicated years. Your dad is also a allstar in my book thank you to ned i wish you the best in your later years once again thanks

I dont believe his championship trophy reads Sprint Cup Champion. If i remember correctly it was Winston Cup Champion. That really gets under my skin.
Race the truck, Dale!
Dale was a great racer from 2001-2005 then he just couldnt be in the top 10, he was so good as #88 but going to 44 made him as half as good(44 is half of 88)lol and RACE THE TRUCK!!!!!
the reason for 2001-2005 is because i became a fan of nascar in 2001 and i g=had looked at dale race since now
Jarrett was more lucky than he ever was good and his luck finally ran out(about 4 years ago). He was a dominant driver for Ford when that Yates horsepower was legendary. They were the premier Ford team. The whole #18 Gibbs team was created for DJ with his brother-in-law Jimmy Makar in charge. That #18 team won a championship and might win another since he left. JGR won 3 titles since he left that organization. Instead of savoring the time he had at Yates too, he wanted to make history with Mikey and Toyota (and I’m sure that Toyota dealership didn’t hurt either). He did make history. He went home on a regular basis which was something that hadn’t happened in almost 20 years. Go up to the booth Dale and stay there. I don’t hate you. I just think you and your friend McReynolds overstayed your welcome.
