With the addition of Joe Gibbs Racing to the Toyota stable finalized, reports are surfacing that Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates could be next. Joe Gibbs Racing will announce Wednesday that they will switch to Toyota in 2008.
Felix Sabates who entered NASCAR in 1989 with driver Kyle Petty has raced General Motors products including Pontiac’s and Chevy’s. When Chip Ganassi purchased a majority interest in the team in 2001, they switched to Dodges; the brand they currently campaign.

Ganassi has strong ties to Toyota due his previous relationship/success with them.
Don’t be surprised if something happens here.
Good for Ganassi. Hope he makes the change.
OMG! GANASSI BETRAYEEEEDDDDD MEEEEE!
Haha that felt great to be cool and hate on Toyota for no good reason. Actually, I couldn’t care less if they switch. All they’re doing is looking into the past to see their previous success with Toyota, looking at how Toyota runs in the truck series, and knowing what is inevitably going to happen in the future with Toyota in Cup now that Gibbs is supposedly on board. If they switch, good for them.
This actually makes sense, because they don’t run well. Might as well try something. Gibbs is a surprise though seeing as they have won races and multiple championships with Chevy. There is no risk in Ganassi moving because they don’t win anything.
Ashame. NASCAR is finished
Eventuallly it will be down to a single manufacturer like the IRL is.
Unless Honda comes in
Hmmm…interesting. Honda came into the IRL and it NOW a one make show.
I think Ganassi is making a great switch to Toyota due to the current partnership they have in Grand-Am with Toyota’s sister company Lexus. As we have seen with the Lexus engine in Grand-Am, CGR has been competing for both the team and driver’s championships the last couple of seasons and winning the Rolex 24 for two years in a row.
Ganassi also had Toyota in the IRL…I believe. He has a long partnership with them.
He probably wanted the program to get off the ground before jumping in and next year is the perfect year to change with the COT car rolling in.
His contract with Dodge wouldn’t let him go to Toyota last year. Your all right He has strong ties with Toyota in several diffrent racing series and although I dont think he;ll ever be Toyotas flagship team I think he”ll do better with Toyeta in the long run.
