Dan Wheldon has left the door open for some time regarding a move over to NASCAR. Wheldon said this week that door has closed.
“Up until this year, I really did consider NASCAR and the reason I did is I’m a driver,” Wheldon said. “I like to be on track and I like the fact they race so much. But with the merging together of both open-wheel series, the series is really fun to drive in right now.”
Wheldon is in the final year of his contract with Target Chip Ganassi Racing, and said he has talked with Ganassi about an extension of his original three-year deal. Wheldon said the deal isn’t done yet, but he hopes it will be done soon.
“When you have more cars like that, it’s definitely fun to drive,” Wheldon said. “So I would say with the fact I think they’re going to continue to build the schedule and from what I understand they’re going to allow more testing during the season . . . that’s what I’m looking for. . . . I definitely think I will be in IndyCars for certainly the next three years after this one.”

Guess that means Reed is safe for another year…. l0l
good, let him stay with Indycar
thank goodness
Too bad.I would have liked to see him try it.I am sure he would have done okay providing he stayed out of Ganassi crap.
I think he would have signed with Ganassi probably to drive the 40.
If I was him I would think hard before moving he would go from
being at the top of his game in that series to being like Dario
in Nascar.
I think Wheldon has seen how other Indy drivers have struggled in NASCAR, even with top equipment. There’s a learning curve, and it takes time to make the switch. Most of the other open wheels who recntly made the move have long since peaked in their open wheel careers, but Wheldon is still a fairly young guy who’s winning. Besides, he’s kind of a flake, and non-conformists have a rough time in NASCAR.
Now, if Paul Tracy is serious about moving to NASCAR, that would be interesting.
He’s a flake how?
Heard him interviewed?

Umm.. He has an English accent because he was born and raised in Emberton, England. It’s no different then somebody from Georgia or Alabama having a southern accent.
Not how he says it, but what he says. His thought processes seem a little different than your average driver, regardless of point of origin. Not in a bad way. Bottom line, though, the guy can drive.
Once again he is British and it’s open wheel. If you watch any European driver, or 95% of all Open Wheel racers you will notice that they think/say things differently then your average Stock Car Driver.
Why do most NASCAR fans have no respect for drivers from other series and origins ?
