Hornish might consider 500/600 double

While deeming it unlikely next year, when Sam Hornish Jr. will be learning the ropes in NASCAR, neither the driver nor team owner Roger Penske is ruling out an eventual return to the Indianapolis 500 for the 2006 winner. “If at some point we have our heads above water, we’re going to have to ask the question, ‘What about we go and run Indy?’ “
Hornish said Sunday morning at Phoenix International Raceway, where he later finished 30th in his first Nextel Cup start. Penske, who confirmed Ryan Briscoe as the replacement for Hornish in the IndyCar Series, said it’s something he would consider. “We’ll evaluate when we get there and see where we’re at,” Penske said. “It’s not something we couldn’t think about.” The 2008 Indy 500 likely will be missing its two most recent winners as reigning champion Dario Franchitti also is joining NASCAR.

1100 miles in one day..that would be amazing..although he sucks in a cup car but still….
Would be kind of cool to see Sam, Stewart,
Robby Gordon, Montoya and JV all pull the double.
go for it Sam, Hope all the open wheel nascar drivers do it, Would make a great day of racing even better, I’ll have the large cooler of my favorite beverage ready to go.
This will only happen IF Indy starts an hour earlier and/or the 600 starts about an hour later. But it would be awesome to see all the ex-openwheelers (even the ones in NNS/CTS) do it. Heck even guys like Jeff and Kasey and Casey who would’ve ended up in openwheelers if NASCAR wasnt around.
has anyone ran both races and won atleast one of them? if not it seems like a waist of time and money.
Several drivers have done the double over time, but I think Stewart has had the best results. In 2000 or 2001 he finished 6th in the 500 and then finished 3rd in the 600. And he was coming on strong in that 600 race too. Robby almost won one year…ran out of gas on the last lap, but I’m not sure if he did the 600 that year or not.
Im 95% sure that a few car owners have won both, but no drivers that I know of.
