Ron HornadayRon Hornaday Jr. relied on his ability to make strong restarts as he won Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Power Stroke Diesel 200 at O’Reilly Raceway Park.

Hornaday passed Travis Kvapil 30 laps from the finish of the 201-lap race, then maintained his lead after two late restarts — the last of which came on lap 199.

Hornaday, who also won the race in 1997, dived low in the last turn of the last lap to keep Johnny Benson two lengths behind at the finish.

“Johnny Benson and I raced side by side for what seemed like 40 laps, and I couldn’t get away from him,” Hornaday said. “He wanted to win as much as we did.”

Benson said second was about the best he could do.

“Our truck was good enough to get to second,” Benson said. “We burned the tires getting there. It’s a brand new truck, so we’re pretty happy. Second’s still a great day.”

Kvapil finished third, just ahead of Rick Crawford. Ken Schrader finished fifth after starting 17th. Todd Bodine, Erik Darnell, Regan Smith, Jack Sprague and Brendan Gaughan rounded out the top 10.
