Hornaday fuming after incident with Kyle Busch

“I’m going to have to teach him a lesson and I hope I don’t hurt him” - Ron Hornaday
Kevin Harvick and Ron Hornaday were involved in a shouting match with Kyle Busch after Busch wrecked Kevin Harvick Inc.’s No. 33 truck on the last lap of Saturday’s Cool City Customs 200.
Television replays showed Hornaday running through the garage to confront Busch, then yelling at Busch along with Harvick, who angrily gestured at Busch. The Billy Ballew Motorsports driver yelled back and had to be restrained from getting closer.
“If he’s going to race that way, that’s pretty chicken,” Hornaday said. “He doesn’t deserve to be a racer. He’s got a lot of talent, but that is flat stupid. If Billy Ballew needs the [owners] championship that bad, then drive that way because he’s got the right driver. I don’t knock any other driver, but I tell you what, that kid is just about done to me now.”
Hornaday was en route to a top-five finish when Busch spun him out by nudging the nose of his truck into Hornaday’s KHI ride.
Busch drove around to a seventh-place finish while Hornaday finished 23rd, dropping KHI from first to fourth in owner points.
Ballew remained in second, eight points behind Bill Davis Racing’s No. 23 truck but 21 points ahead of KHI’s No. 33.
Busch talked about the incident after arriving at Kentucky Speedway for the Nationwide Series race.
“I was going down the frontstretch, trying to look high and he stayed up against the wall so I stayed down to look underneath him and then he turned down,” Busch said. “I wasn’t expecting him to come across my nose like that. I got into him, spun him out.
“He didn’t have any damage to his truck fortunately. We had our incident to our Charlotte where I had a lot of damage done and wrecked a perfectly good truck. [Today] wasn’t payback or anything like that. I just got into him. I’m sorry about that.”
Hornaday wasn’t likely in a forgiving mood.
“I’m going to have to teach him a lesson and I hope I don’t hurt him,” Hornaday said. “…I’ve tried to talk to him as a friend, and I don’t know what it is, he’s just out there. He’s on an ego trip and if he’s going to wreck me every week, I guess we’re going to have to do it back to him.”
Busch brushed aside the harsh words from Hornaday.
“Remarks from Harvick and Hornaday are what they’re going to be,” Busch said. “They’re big-mouths anyway, so we’ll take it and go on with it and hopefully beat them out for this championship.”
Hornaday said he wanted to confront Busch to tell him that he disapproved of his driving.
“I don’t know what he’s thinking,” Hornaday said. “We’re leading the points, and I guess he needed to lead the points even more than we did.”
Harvick tersely declined comment other than to say, “I’m not the driver.” Busch headed immediately for a helicopter that would help get him to Kentucky for the Nationwide Series race later Saturday.
Hornaday was left behind, stewing.
“If NASCAR doesn’t penalize him and put him behind me [in points], I don’t know what to say,” Hornaday said.
- NASCAR should’ve parked Kyle Busch
- Hornaday holds off Busch for Texas Truck victory
- Earnhardt, Jr and Busch have no hard feelings over Richmond incident
- Busch could be penalized for post-race incident with Edwards
- Edwards and Busch placed on probation by NASCAR

I think kyle will find out what it is like to mess with the bull!
I’m glad I’m not the only person who thinks Ky. Busch is on a huge ego trip.
I hope this 43rd place finish in Pocono last weekend will be the start of a long rest of the season.
And I also hope that Hornaday does in fact wreck Busch. That’ll be a great day!
Rubbing is racing, but Kyle is a dirty driver, and it’s never his fault. Kurt and Tony used to be like him, and turned their attitudes around, let’s hope Kyle can too before he takes it too far… Maybe JD Gibbs can get a group discount on anger management classes…?
Shrublet better steer clear of Ron.
There is a racer in this area who has the same attitude as Kyle, and in his almost three decades of racing at various local tracks he has triple digit wins and double digit championships. Bottom line is when you are racing you are racing to get your team the most points and to make sure the teams that are around you in points get the least amount of points.
695 is 100% right. race hard and leave every one behind.
Sounds like Hornaday is sending threats. Kyle is out there to win.
Fisha695, your local wheelman may have multiple wins and championships, but if it were me he put in the wall, he’d also have multiple broken noses and chipped teeth. I’ve done it to rough drivers I’ve run with before. Racing is not racing when you stuff people to gain a position. That’s stuffing/punting/crashing, and it’s chickensh**. It’s living off someone else’s pocketbook, and there’s no place for that in the highest tier of stock car racing.
Busch reminds me of some of the idiots I hung around with when I was a kid, who always had the law shaking them down for one reason or another (always a good reason, mind you), and they always cried foul against the cops, saying “I don’t know why they target ME, I don’t know why they harass ME.” Well, moron, they harass you because YOU are the problem. Does anyone believe for a minute that Busch has incidental contact with this many other cars purely out of coincidence? Or could it POSSIBLY be because he tries to put his car in places it doesn’t belong? Noooooooooooo, couldn’t be, could it?

You can race to win without being a dirty driver. I don’t think anyone has a problem with running as hard as you can and racing for wins. In Buschs case he may not be running a full season in Nationwide or trucks. Its all about wins for him in those series. But wrecking your opponents to gain points on them isn’t racing. The guys who are regulars there (drivers, teams, crews) are doing it to make a living and hoping to make a good enough impression to move up to a higher level. Instead he is costing them money in results and torn up cars.
I hope someone teaches him a lesson because he really needs it. Take him out behind the track and settle it like men or wreck him when he tries these stupid moves.
Lets see, Busch is messin with the bull… wrecks in the Nationwide race… and now I again am remaining optomistic that he will wreck tomorrow… seein how crappy he was in practice all weekend, its only a matter of time before NASCAR sits him out a weekend or two!
go busch hornaday deserved it
Dale Sr. went through this much hate b4 …..he is now a legend…hmmmmm
Messin with the bull, thats what Nascar is all about! If we did’nt have Kyle to pick on,what would 2009 be?And if anyone noticed, just how much did Harvick say? No matter what,we love racing!!And as we all know, Kyle is one hek of a competitor and a” legend in his own!!”
Hornaday is a cry baby. You didn’t see Kyle saying this kind of stuff when he wrecked Kyle,
earlier in the year. He does crap almost every week and whines when he gets a little of it
back. It was racing and he needs to shut up.
You all make me laugh. A pp said it best about Dale Sr. You either loved him or hated him…..but now he is a legend. I guess Kyle will be a legend with him. Hornaday has done his fair share of dirty driving. I watched him in Ca and I also watched Harvick and he is as dirty as they get…. Go Kyle….keep winning thoes races…I think were looking at the next championship winner.
One thing nobody has mentioned is Hornaday being a crazy old man turned down into to Kyle. If you watch the replays Kyle was on the white line all the way through the turn and that crazy old man man like all old drivers made some crazy move and turned into kyle, Hornaday needs to get a perscription face shield or start wearing glasses. Finally someone in Nascar who isnt scared to go out and get the win. I hope everyone hates Kyle Bush ause that just proves how corporate this sport has gone and how now we have to accomidate the YUPPY crowd, lets get back to the good ole days of hard driving and harder attitudes.
It is so funny how shrublets keep comparing shrub to SR! ummm hate to tell you but sr was and is loved by the blue collar crowd! shrub is not loved by the common man and he has no idea what it is to be the common man. He has been spoon feed his entire life. I loved all that great car handling skills he showed in the nationwide race…keep it up shrublet.
Hmm, one great driver getting talked down by two mediocre drivers. Kyle may have an attitude now, but he will grow out of it. If not, then SR. has done a great job of keeping the Intimidator banner warm for Busch
I disagree. Dale Sr was not loved by the blue collar crowd. How do you think he got the nick name intimidator!! And as for you thinking Kyle was spoon feed, go back to his racing days in the southwest series, he struggled to make it. If your gonna spout facts please do your research.

Doesn’t matter what type of people like Sr or Kyle. If you don’t see the similarities in their driving styles you either didn’t watch Sr drive or you’re so vehemently against Kyle that you can’t bring yourself to admit it!
I didn’t catch the end of the race so I didn’t see the incident so I can’t really comment on it, but I will agree w/ Rowdy Busch above… Hornaday has given more than his share of the same stuff in his time. If he can’t take what he dished out then maybe he needs to just call it quits!
Seems like this was one of two things.. Either a legit product of hard racing or payback for Hornaday wrecking Kyle earlier. Either way I’m cool with it, and I don’t really care one way or another about Shrub.
anyone who wants to compare dale sr. to busch is just an idiot. you’re talking about a skinny, ugly, and obnoxious “city slicker” from vegas and the prototypical country boy from north carolina who worked on his farm despite his wealth and fame. they are two completely different personalities…and people only make this comparison to stir up dale jr. fans. earnhardt moved people out of the way because that’s how his dad and other people he grew up around in the south liked to race. kyle busch moves people because he thinks he’s king of the world and that he can do whatever he wants. he has no respect for the sport, the fans, or his competitors…and anybody who defends this guy is probably new to the sport and just wants to root for a winner.
i’d like to see hornaday follow through with his threat. somebody needs to teach the kid a lesson since nascar won’t do it.
I’m not new to the sport. I don’t cheer for winners. Thats a broad statement. So what if Sr. was a farmer, you can be what ever you want and if you have the tallent to race. Sr moved people out of the way because thats the only way he could get around them. Kyle doesn’t think he is king of the world, but if he did I wouldn’t blame him. He’s kicking everyones a$$. He;s leading the points and he has won more races than anyone this year. Just because he’s ugly has no pull.
Hornaday needs to get some glasses and retire. He drives the same way he did back in the day and got his A$$ kicked for it on more than one occascion.
SAM
Got bad news for you, the reason everyone hates Bush is because everyone is JR fan, Normally when so many people cheer for one person you would call them front runners but since JR hasnt won a race in years you cant call them front runners. Also as for being spoon feed, do you think every other driver in the series came up from the dirt roads of Carolina, you couldnt be more wrong. Bottom line is Kyle is an amazing talent you can hate him all you want, but that wont change his ability.
The best way to describe this feeling that people have towards Kyle (and that Kyle has towards people) can be best described by the following two lines of a song by Lady Sovereign.
“Love me or Hate me that is the Question,
Love me or Hate me it’s still an Obsession.”

Ummm, what? He did not get his nicname from factory workers, he got his nickname from his competition! He raced dirt tracks with junk! He worked his way up the ladder to the cup level and earned it all himself.
Kyle started his cup career in Hendrick trucks and cars. That is called spoon feed.
How old was Kyle when he raced the southwest series? 15? How did he get his cars? If your gonna spout facts please do your research!!!!
Sam wrote:
Sam I hate to tell you but Sr has that nickname and driving style well before he won 7 titles and 76 races, and if it were not for that driving style/attitude he would not have won 7 titles and 76 races.

OK, fisha,
What year did Dale SR when his first championship?
Howl ong had he been a full time cup driver?
What race car driver gave him his Nickname and what Year?
So your saying that any driver who has talent and gets noticed early are spoon feed. When did you start watching racing. What about Joey Logano..He is young and talented and in his 3 start at 18 won his first of many races last night. Sr raced junk because thats what they raced in his era. Everyone who has tallent is starting at the same place Kyle started at. How about Tony Stewert. I knew him when he lived in his car outside his girlfriends house and she paid for his racing, he started out in Gibbs stuff. Spoon feed is a stupid saying…..there all that way.
You can hate on him all you want but the truth be known he will be a champion.
Racing isn’t a fricken pretty boy sport. Nascar comes from the roots where local farmers would beat and bang and pull every dirty trick to win a few bucks on the weekend. Hell, many of you must not remember the late Dale Earnhardt Senior. Maybe you should go back and watch the race between him an Terry Labonte at Bristol. Kyle is an excellant driver; and his bawlz to the wallz attitude will never leave him scared of the car or not pushing it far enough. Besides; if your not first; your last. Second place is just the first loser.

1987, no driver gave it to him it was the media that did.
Fisha, the one thing Sam needs to realize is that Sr.’s age was late 20’s when he was a rookie. Shrubs is ONLY 23 or 24, give him the time to mature he will most certainly make his mark. Also to realize his brother Rubberhead didn’t make it easy to embrace Kyle when he came up in the ranks. At the time Kyle had the same tado made of him as Joey Legano has had. So yeah it may have given him a little ego problem and most definately a interview nightmare, but if you listen to him he reminds me of a real young Dale Sr. only with prime equipment. Totally aggrssive, rude, brash, smart-a## mouth, but can back it up. Hornaday hisself is a “rougher” driver, why do you think Dale Sr. hired him to drive his number 15 NAPA truck back when the truck Series was fledgling??? I remember ALL to well, him and Skinner. Anyways, Kyle has the potential to be greatness in this era like Dale was during his. The only thing that may slow him down is his ego. Thank God for the media, cause like Sr. said if memory serves me correct, “Good or bad at least the media is talking about you and if they (media) are doing that, then you are doing your job”.
First of all, I met Sr in 1979 and got his autograph. He has never spoken like shrub. You are right about hornaday and he will teach shrub a lesson.
I met Sr. twice, both times your right he treated you like you were human. He came to the Chevy dealership I was changing tires at and I got to meet and talk to him. I was running a mini-stock at the time and aske him the difference between the set ups for a Cup car and mine. Damned if he didn’t “splain” it to me in a fashion that you could really understand, plus he took like 20 minutes out of his time to do so. Shrubs has the potential, lets hope he uses it.
lucky man sam. I never got a chance to meet the legend. (was only 15 when he died)
As an earnhardt (sr and jr fan) my entire life let me say this.
Shrub does have SOME talent
He has an ego problem
he is wreckless.
perhaps in 5-10 years (if he dont get hurt by one of the drivers he pisses off week in and week out) he may be a great driver, Right now, hes a punk.
Yeah Sr would spin you out for a win, but kyle will spin you out for a win, to keep you at bay in the points, just because your racing etc.
I would say that shrub probably grew up loving sr and is TRYING to be like him.
I would also say he is trying to hard and it isnt working.
When Kyle is wrecking other drivers, I think he should be payed back, Tick For Tat deal…
I think someone should take him in back somewhere and give him a attitude adjustment instead of wrecking him with a ski mask on so he can’t prove who did it…
WE are very Scary of Ron Hordanday not kyle busch has the same attitude like me I donot take No Cramp from Everybody when you pissed me off i donot play
Kyle Busch will get his…then there will be some tiny tears. Like they say hell hath no rath like a cheater scorned. …Or is that a woman?…Same thing
Well you sure don’t want to race busch like he raced Hornaday…cuz he will cry! I didn’t get to see this race…but I sure will look for the feed to see this wreck! “The schrub” is going to get his sooner or later and it will be ugly…and he deserved every bit of it! Go get him boys!
ok…….the majority of the cot races have been boring. least busch spices it up a little!
cry me a river !!!!!!!rubbins racing deal with it….go watch indy or cart

guess someone didn’t understand the comparison lol driving…not background of thier personal lives ._.
let hornaday handle it ……and me watch
I’m gonna quote all the Jr fans on all the other articles about Jrs controversial win… “GET OVER IT… WHAT’S DONE IS DONE… MOVE ON… THE RACE IS OVER… BLAH BLAH BLAH…”
