Harvick wins wild Busch race in Montreal, Gordon creates controversy

Kevin Harvick captured Saturday afternoon’s inaugural NAPA Auto Parts 200 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in wild fashion after Robby Gordon spun out the race leader. The No.21 Chevrolet crossed the finish line 0.330 seconds ahead of Canadian Patrick Carpentier.
The victory was Harvick’s fourth of the season and 30th of his Busch Series career.
Carpentier brought the field to the green flag for a scheduled 74 laps for road-course racing. But on lap six Boris Said successfully moved around both Ron Fellows and Carpentier for the lead.
Many of the leaders made an early stop, but Carpentier stayed out, using a slightly different pit strategy. When everyone had cycled through, Scott Pruett owned the lead just ahead of Said. He did it with a quicker stop, but while Said had four new tires, Pruett got fuel only.
Marcos Ambrose was third, but not for long. He went around Said for second place on lap 21 and was less than one second behind Pruett. Ambrose closed onto Pruett’s back bumper.
In the series championship, Carl Edwards came in to the pits on lap 25 and a mechanical problem sent him to the garage for repairs to the rear suspension.
The race would come down to the rookie, Ambrose, and one of NASCAR’s best off- road and road course racers, Gordon.
Witg four laps to go Ambrose got a great jump on Gordon. But Fellows and Pruett didn’t make it through turn two and they spun around blocking the track and forcing a caution flag. Meanwhile, Ambrose had spun Gordon out after the caution flags were displayed
NASCAR determined that Gordon should restart in 14th place, but Gordon refused to move from behind Ambrose. NASCAR should have red-flagged the race at that point to force Gordon to move, but instead began the race with Gordon right behind the leader.
Gordon, of course, took out his frustration on Ambrose spinning him out in the second corner. Harvick inherited the lead and after holding off Carpentier was declared the winner.
Gordon continued to claimed he won the race, but Harvick was the actual winner as Gordon had been black-flagged and his final laps weren’t counted by the scoring computer.

Absolutley unexcuseable by Robby Gordon.
He disobeyed a direct order by NASCAR, lined up in the wrong position (2nd instead of 17th) and went out there with the intention of wrecking poor Marcus Ambrose
Disgusting
Im afraid if NASCAR doesnt act accordingly on this then they will lose a few fans because of this.
Now taking bets on how long it will take Robby Gordon to be ejected from NASCAR.
He really needs to be suspended for the rest of the year…unbelievable!
I totally agree.
Robbys TEAM should be ejected from a few Cup races, because if they just eject Robby Gordon then the team will still be in the Top-35 in owner points
You have to hit him where it hurts and that will teach him a lesson because its affects will be long term.
Absolutley disgraceful what Robby did.
But I applaud Marcus Ambrose…did anyone else hear his post-race interview?
“Im just thankful for the opertunity to race NASCAR cars and i wont get down about the bad days.”
An attitude of a champion.
Robby Gordon needs to be parked from all of NASCAR series. Cup, Bush, and Trucks just in case. Him and TS need a wakup call and NaSCAR needs to send it very loud and very clear. What he did was totally wrong and complet retalation for a racing incident. What a big baby he won’t get respect from anyone now. Sponsers, fans and drivers should absoultly turn thier backs on him immediatly. It would not surprise me at all to see him racing at TS’s Eldora speedway very soon as he most likley now is TS’s favorite driver ’cause after all “great minds think alike”.
i rlly wanted the ause to win but i got to agree with robby bc if your not the caution and u get spun you can go back to your position as long as you get going again which you can clearly see happen. i rlly think this is all nascar to blame bc they never warned robby which they should have done and then if you are gunna move him to another spot you have got to do it b4 the race starts esp. what just happened, so this is all on nascar to blame
and what rlly pisted me off is all week or so they have been saying that they where gunna be racing on the streets like some of the F1 races do, my ass that was another road course just in another country just like the mexico race. i was rlly wanting to see some racing on actuall streets
pitbull wut are you talking about you no how much more sponsers are gunna look at him just bc hes gunna be gettin talked about so much more and this shows his not gunna take ____ from anyone esp. nascar
Ian:
Would you want your company to be represented by a driver who disregards what NASCAR says?
And has a horrible temper?
yeh bc it shows if hes not gunna take it from nascar hes not gunna just move over for some other guy on the race track why do u think home depot spons. tony bc hes not gunna take ____ from anyone and he’ll do what ever it takes to win
And do you really think that is a professional representation of your company?
Well, to everyone dissing Robby !
If you review the tape of the race, Robby was the leader when the yellow came out, then he got spun, in reality, Robby should have been the leader at that time. NASCAR did a great injustice to Robby by saying that he should be 13th or 14th. ANYWHERE else, when the yellow comes out, the field is frozen, which would have made Robby the leader. I personally hope that Robbys appeal works for him. He is a great driver and always get a bad wrap!
Have any of you guys ripping on Robby ever even met the man? He is THE most perssonable driver out there! I think that NASCAR should be embarassed for such the call that they made! Robby was the winner, in my eyes!!! Congrats Robby !
Yeah, Home Depot likes Tony because he doesn’t take anyone’s crap. That’s why HD was the first sponsor to fine it’s driver. OK, Ian, whatever you need to tell yourself…
Drivers want to drive at JGR. No one wanted to be Robby’s teammate. Would that explain why he has been on his own? Apples to oranges (no pun intended).
Well that was already decided by NASCAR, maybe NASCAR should have red-flagged the race.
However it was absolutley incorrect of Robby to carry on the way he did.
It was disgusting to say the least.
I hate robbie but he was CLEARLY the race leader when the caution was thrown. That being said he was completely wrong in his actions that followed. I can name many drivers that would have done the same and have done the same # 3,24, 8,5 (kyle and terry) ,29, 48 , 2 just to name a few .
Well, Alex Garcia put up a nice showing until his engine gave. Kudos to them for racing hard, even if they couldn’t have finished.
you no wut i think is funny to, how big the internet is and i couldnt find anywhere yet a area for rules i mean i went to mlb the other day and theres a link right there and im searching like crazzy and i cant find 1
Robbie Gordon should’nt be allowed to drive anything!!!!
Here’s the deal folks….Robby was DUMPED by Ambrose and should have restarted in second since the caution flag came out BEFORE he was spun. NASCAR continues to screw him and he is totally aware of it. No way should he have had to go back to the 14th position. If they told him to restart second like he was supposed to, he would have raced for the win instead of spinning out Ambrose in frustration. I was cheering him on the whole time. Good for him…stick it to NASCAR. Personally I’m sick of them playing favorites with the “robot-I’d-like-to kiss-my-sponsors-and-NASCAR’s-ass” drivers. Gimme a break. It’s nice to see guys like Robby and Tony Stewart with some personality and some HEART. Good luck to Robby on his appeal…NASCAR was wrong on the call and they knew what he was gonna do at the end. Why not red flag it then? Publicity… which is exactly what a driver like Robby brings, and NASCAR is a publicity slut. Screw them… this was just what they wanted.
I cant agree with you more!!!!!! i
So you dont think its wrong that Robby dumped him for no purpose?
I have a question, since im not all that familiar with NASCAR racing. (watched it on-off)
The yellow flag we saw when Marcus Ambrose spun Robby Gordon, was that a sector caution or was that a full course caution?
That would clear alot of things up.
There was a purpose… eye for an eye. Thats a racing deal and everyone knew it was coming. Like someone else said…there are a TON of drivers who would have done the same.
And that was a full course caution…. field should have been frozen.
But the drivers would have done it for the win.
Robby knew he was supposed to drop back adnd even asked where the 33 car was when he was asked to get behind him.
It was a disgusting pre-meditaed move that took a much deserved voctory from a Busch Regular.
Then don’t you think NASCAR should have red-flagged it to remove him from the race? They knew he was gonna do it and did nothing. They WANTED it to happen. You should be disgusted with NASCAR.
Jackie - I totally agree with you! Robby just plainily got screwed! Robby should have been the winner, and I do applaude him for sticking to his guns.
Hopefully, the appeal will work for him, though, I doubt it, he seems to always get srewed , no matter what he does.
Im disgusted with both actually
NASCAR for its horrible (but expected?) officiating
and Robby Gordon for not controlling his anger better. Its a damn shame it had to happen, Ambrose really ran a great race and deserved the victory.
ps its hard to be unbiased when writing this because im a natural born australian : (

Well that was already decided by NASCAR, maybe NASCAR should have red-flagged the race.
: )
did everone watch the same race? clearly Robby was punted while we could all see the yellow waving. by not answering the yellow at least Robby can fight for an appeal. I do not believe Nascar is being fair about this. that said, I think Robby should be awarded the win, then have it taken back for spinning Ambrose. But, Nascar can’t do that because it lets its heros spin to win everyone From Dale to Jeff gordan has done it. Come on people don’t use your dislike for a driver bend the reallity of Nascar playing favorites
I feel for the guy. And i have met him on several occasions, too. He’s just an awesome down to earth guy who ALWAYS makes time for his fans. Can’t say that about many other drivers.
dude stop posting on my name?
Thanks.
And Marcus had a great attitude in his post race interview
an attitude of a champion really.
good think Robby didnt do that to Harvick because then that would have ben interesting
I hear you Andrew…Ambrose ran a great race. But so did Robby and I think it would have been an awesome finish had everything gone smoothly. It’s too bad really. NASCAR has no one to blame but themselves on this one.
Yup…dont forget NASCAR is never wrong. *sigh*
Oh and Andrew… I’m a huge Robby fan… it’s okay to be biased!
I am a HUGE Robby Fan also!!!!
I even have a firesuit of his, Indy helmet, shoes, Baja gloves, + + + ! I just love the man!!!
Everyone at Busch series race control should be FIRED! I am a Marcos Ambrose fan who is p-i-s-t mad as a hornet. They knew what was coming, they should have never thrown the green flag until robby gordon was in his correct position and I dang well know they let it go for a dramatic ending. What a bunch of Morons. Things like this are the reason Nascar is going to junk, losing fans, tv ratings, sponsor troubles, and having major team layoffs, because they are walking in shoes to big for their feet and all they care about is money in their pockets, a good “corporate image”, and having teams get development drivers with more “marketability” than talent, and alienating their core group of fans. Bill France Jr or Sr would have never let that race restart happen with cars still out of order, and Ambrose clearly should have won.
Jackie:
Then don’t you think NASCAR should have red-flagged it to remove him from the race? They knew he was gonna do it and did nothing. They WANTED it to happen. You should be disgusted with NASCAR.
Oh yeah, that’s the ticket! NASCAR officials have the power to read a drivers mind while said driver in on the track. They KNEW Gordon was gonna act the fool…. yeah sure they did. At least that’s what you want to believe.
Reality, (some of you do know what that is correct?) says Gordon paid a price for ignoring the Black Flag. He WON’t be banished from NASCAR as some of you haters would love to see, but he in all likelyhood will get the standard fine and points penalty.
Special note to “Ian,” leave that idiotic SMS language for your cell phone and learn to write proper English it might make you appear to be older than 12.
I don’t care what place the tape said he should of been or shouldn’t of been. What he did to Marcos was just wrong and so child like!! I hope he is thrown out of NASCAR.
Hey Marc…so lovely to hear from you…
He’s being suspended from tomorrows race which ,even as a fan, I say he deserves. And if anyone ever watches NASCAR at all…you can pick out the drivers who will fight back…Robby being one, Tony Stewart being another, Jeff Gordon would, too, and the late great Dale Earnhardt would have been another. They have these 2 things called BALLS which most drivers do not have. In most cases when a driver has been black flagged, a red flag will be thrown to have the driver escorted off the track. NASCAR decided they wanted the dramatic ending.
And what the hell is up your ass that your lashing out at people? Calm down… it’s just a friggin race.
Juan Pablo Montoya purposely spun Scott Pruitt in the Busch race earlier this year. Did nascar take that win away? NO! How can you let a guy spin someone under caution and want to pentalize the victim? Nascar is eat up with dumb @ss.
jp montoyas situation was different, they were going for a position, and no caution was thrown. when the caution came out ambrose(who was freight trained by gordon in the 4th turn) crossed the next scoring loop first, gordon crossed it after the 11th place car. therefore robby gordon should have restarted in 12th its as simple as that, nascar should have given robby 1 chance to change his position to the correct position or be parked for the rest of the day. Nascar is as at fault as robby gordon. THAT is the sad part. All I have to say is that Marcos Ambrose is a class act who I had the opportunity of meeting him last year along with my late model crew and he is a class guy who talked austrailian v8 racing with me for a good half hour and is about the nicest guy you will ever meet. Nascar needs more people like him and less corporate ____________ and arrogant _______…
how come nobodys talking about Ambrose spinning Robby during a yellow, and what a bad guy he must be to do that. I like Robby, suport him, even bought a hat in Chicago, but what he did is wrong ( we all have seen other Nascar drivers do it on last laps on short tracks) but Nascar was wrong on trying to put him back too many spots. I’m glad neither driver won but am hoping robby could win an apeal. he won’t! Paul Tracy still thinks he won the Indy 500
look for the last time, the field is frozen based on when the leader crosses the next scoring loop, they had not passed the upcoming loop yet even tho the yellow was out, gordon crossed that scoring loop in 12th place, so technically and officially it was perfectly legit for ambrose to be in first and gordon 12th, nascar didnt just pick a number and say yeah lets put him here…and ambrose was paying back gordon who jumped the curb in turn 2 and got into ambroses rear hard in 3 and 4, ambrose did the same thing but it just happened to spin robby out…for the last time, ambrose crossed the next scoring loop in 1st and gordon crossed in 12th…thats all it boils down too…
its not the previous one, its the next one, because the leader had passed the previous one before the caution was thrown so it defaults to the next one as to who is leading, the field can be judged on previous loops, but the leader must be scored on the next loop if a lead change has taken place, same reason dale jr didnt win at talladega even tho he crossed the finish line and technically finished the race after vickers wrecked him from behind…so you cannot say nascar is doing it their way, they are being consistent…
have to say that was a wild race. i have always like robby because he was the under dog, but i think he even pushed it to the limit today. he is a heck of a road racer but he blew it today. ambrose was a class act in his interview and its a shame the last few laps hadn’t been raced clean so we could see who the real winner was. i say let the cup go to canada and see what sparks or parts fly!
it shouldnt take 5 caution laps at 30 mph on a 2.7mile course to clean up a little leaked oil and debris, the clean up crew there needed to be alittle more on their game today…
no rg the cleanup crew took their time
because it is all part of nascars grand
conspiracy remember?
: )
HAHAHAHAHA!!! Thank you Andrew… it’s a friggin’ mafia.
Jackie:
“He’s being suspended from tomorrows race which ,even as a fan, I say he deserves. And if anyone ever watches NASCAR at all…”
Reading minds again? So tell me, how could you possibly now what hasn’t happened yet? Here’s the latest, just so you can keep up:
“It’s fair to say we’re still evaluating [his status for] tomorrow’s race,” NASCAR Vice President of Racing Operations Steve O’Donnell said Saturday night. “We’re still talking about what’s going to take place in Pocono. At this point, it’s too early to tell.”
If he’s suspended for the Cup event it won’t be announced until Sunday morning. Sooo… where do you get you rumors from. And more to the ooint why do you spread them as if they are fact?
“RG”, you one of the few that have it right. Everyone wants to whine about when the yellow was out and who was ahead or not ahead.
Well D’OH, enjoy your Homer Moment. As RG notes the yellow is meaningless, the order reverts to what it was at the last scoring loop.
When the caution came out Robby was in the LEAD and then ambrose spun him out. Why wasn’t ambrose blacked flag-I mean he crash him under caution. If this was Jr. everyone would think he did the right thing. Robby comes out and signs autographs for everyone and never makes you stand in line to get tickets and then again to get an autograph. I think it is wrong to suspend him because he thought he was doing the right thing. Would nascar have given the spot back if it was say johnson, or jeff gordon, think so. I think that nascar needs to be fair across the board. How could robby keep the speed when he was spun out on purpose under a caution by a creep who wanted to pass him when robby slowed down for the same caution. Go get them Robby hope you win your case. from a big Robby Gordon fan and proud of it.
I WAS WATCHING THE RACE WHEN ALL THIS HAPPEN BY WHAT I SEEN ROBBY WON THE RACE FAIR AND SQUARE
>>
WORDS BY THE ESPN REPORTS !!
So NASCAR, where were you during the Caution ???????????? R. Gordon was leading the race and Ambrose took R. Gordon out. That tells me Ambos should have Been BLACK FLAGGED,
Caution was OUT…..
Robby Gordon, WON the Race. NASCAR IS SO in Left Field, ESPN, showed it twice, as Ambose spins R. Gordon during Caution, as R. Gordon is Leading, thus putting Gordon as Leader, NOT in 14th spot.
Why do the films show other wise to what NASCAR is saying ??????????????????????????????
Nascar should have gave Robby #1 back.
The yellow was out and he got run over UNDER YELLOW!!!!as per Nascars lame ass rule when the yellow is out you slow down. Marcos didn’;t cause he is a moron who doesn’t know the rules of Nascar and his stupid team never told him.
Nascar is also stupid and should have gave robby back 1st as that is where he was when the yellow came out. He can see the yellow flag waving when stupid Marcos run him over.
I’m glade Robby lined up in 2nd and ran his ass over he deserved it.
Ringers should learn the damn rules and follow them or get off the damn track.
Nascar should also learn their own damn rules and give drivers the spot where they should be. If anyone should have went back to 18th it should have been Marcos for not follow nascars rule of slowing down when the yellow comes out.
Gordon was in 1st place when the yellow flag came out & Ambrose spun him out of the way. NASCAR has dropped the ball yet ANOTHER time!!!
No wonder that attendance & viewership are both taking a nosedive.
I have been a NASCAR fan since 1965 but NASCAR is becoming just another sport run by authoritarian boobs.
If I wanted to watch IROC I would watch IROC. NASCAR is so far away from its roots, mandating shocks, springs, gears, etc; and using cars that were never produced for consumers (2 door Charger & Taurus, templates that fit NO “stock” cars), I don’t think it will ever be able to get back to real “stockcar” racing agian!!!
I hope Robbie has the ‘nads to tell NASCAR “up yours” and find a sport where the drivers are again the stars and not simply the mules that the officials make jump through idiotic hoops.
Yellow liquid on NASCAR & the brown-nosing networks that have so commercialized the sport that we now have commercials for the commercials!!!
Robby was pissed because HE WAS SPUN DURING A YELLOW/CAUTION PERIOD. NASCAR changed their scoring a few times during that yellow. They said Robby was to line up first on the restart. Then they came back and said to put him second on the restart. Then they really screwed around and had the black flag fiasco. NASCAR created the problem but Robby paid the price. NASCAR disqualified Robby because he didn’t obey the black flag deal. Again, they created the situation. These drivers do not have rights. None of ‘em!! NASCAR is the judge, jury and executioner. The appeal process is a joke. NASCAR will always govern and police themselves and that’s not fair to us, the drivers, sponsors or teams. That Earnhardt autopsy crap REALLY worked out, didn’t it? They fine and dock drivers points for crap after the race which is wrong ( radio, tv). The mandatory media crap after the races isn’t fair. They should be on their own time AFTER an event unless they signed a contract to do otherwise. NASCAR decisions are starting to look like Bud Selig’s. You know Bud. He f*cked up MLB. That’s another example of why NASCAR won’t allow unions in. They’d lose power.
About the black flag: the driver has three laps to come in, that’s the NASCAR rule!!!
Like Robbie said - precidence of previous rulings would have him lining up in 1st. Or second, if the scoring loop was further back on the track.
NASCAR’s hatchet boy Pemberton needs an enema and I need some tall boots!!!!
I never really cared for Robby Gordon, until Montreal. Way to stir the pot. As for Ambrose, I think his surprisingly good attitude after the race was because he knew he had it coming after spinning Gordon out durning a yellow. Probably something like, “Oooops, now I’m going to get it.”
