Jamie McMurrayKevin HarvickNASCAR fined Kevin Harvick and Jamie McMurray $25,000 each Wednesday for making contact during a caution at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday.

Both drivers were also placed on probation until Oct. 3.

NASCAR was not aware of any incidents between the drivers until they reviewed videotape of the last few laps of the race. The two drivers were apparently bumping each other under caution on the final lap.

The race went into overtime because of a late accident, and it ended under caution because of two separate wrecks during the two-lap sprint to the finish.

NASCAR is really trying to send a message to its drivers. You have to wonder if they are indeed going way too far with the penalties.

YES,,,way to far,,,,,Its almost like nascar is trying to remove the drivers personalities. They cant say nothing(cant have an opinion), cant show any emotion what so ever.

What a bunch of crap!! Are they going to start fining Stewart for bumping the pace car?!?! Who were they going to hurt besides themselves?!?!

  5. 5 susie

    That is such BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is crap. So your telling me that no other cars were bumping each other during any other caution
the whole race? And your telling me that you won’t get fined if you bump the pace car? This is crap

i understand on track fines if they danger other drivers, etc. but rubbing each other during a caustion won’t cause a wreck. or at least HIGHLY unlikely. ridiculous, and i’m not even partial to either driver. silly, silly, silly.

Yeah, I’m not particularly partial to either driver in this case
either. And I agree, they’re not hurting anyone but themselves.
Nascar really is trying to take away the drivers’ personalities.

What is Nascar trying to do? You have Harvick and McMurray on probation till October, you have Stewart on probation till December, the way this season is looking, Michael Waltrip will get a chance to race… he might even be the only one on the track at that point!!!!!

I think Nascar made a big mistake by fining those two drivers. it wasn’t that big a deal and Nascar needs to lighten up!

i totally agree.. this is crazy. before you know it all the drivers will be on probation. how stupid. nascar has gone too far and totally out of control. what are they going bankrupt (highly doubtful). or something that they need all this money from the drivers. i think they should start being penalized for making ignorant decisions like this one.

Its funny that some of the same people who were begging for Tony to get penalties for imaginary crimes see these penalties against Harvick & McMurray as unfair. Caution laps occur to slow the cars and allow safety workers on the track. You don’t want tempers to flair and drivers to start settling things in their cars while that is happening. Plus, it could cause more debris for no good reason. Banging into eachother at 70 doesn’t take much guts. Save it for green flag laps or after the checkers when the beers are flying.

But probation till October seems a little much.

    Funny post, SmokeFan!

Nascar needs to leave them alone. Just let them race it out. that is what makes good races.
