Hamlin will not receive any penalty for stopping in Richmond race

Denny Hamlin won’t be further penalized for intentionally bringing out a late caution in Saturday night’s race at Richmond International Raceway even though there is precedent for it.
No further penalty also is expected against Michael Waltrip for intentionally wrecking Casey Mears, NASCAR officials said on Monday.
Hamlin was given a two-lap penalty when he stopped on the track with a cut tire with less than 10 laps remaining. NASCAR officials believed it was an intentional move to bring out the caution and allow Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch the opportunity to close on then-leader Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Hamlin admitted he stopped the car on purpose, saying his only option would have been to drag the sway bar off.
“I didn’t want to tear up the car and not finish the race,” he said. “The bottom line is we had to stop or we were going to get a DNF.”
Hamlin said at no time did he think the caution would help his teammate.
“I didn’t even know where Kyle was on the track,” he said. “For all I knew he was leading the race.”

Why?? When Jr spun himself out at Bristol, NASCAR fined him, so I guess NASCAR picks and chooses who they penalize!
Remember how this year NASCAR is letting the drivers be drivers and giving less penalties?
Man Howie got it 100% right in the story about Jr/Kyle when he said that you people complain when they give penalties that NASCAR is taking the fun away, and now that they are being more lenient you people still complain.
I’m sorry Fisha this doent have anything to do with a driver saying something out of the way or slapping someone around. He knew he had a problem 5 laps before he brought out the caution. His excuse doesnt fly, he is no kid and his actions put others in danger along with himself. Luckily noone ran into him this time and now they are opening the door for everyone to just stop on the track if they have a problem.
Hamlin has a radio and is being told by his spotter at all times during a problem where the field is and what to do. Saying he did not know is BS, he new exactly what he was doing and why.
NASCAR chose to not take further action.. so be it but the next time a driver does this and a wreck occurs look out NASCAR…
Fisha you and shutterbug make a great couple. To bad you always get it WRONG…lol, lol, lol

Yup, Howie was dead on. Everyone just wants something to complain about, and no matter what NASCAR does it’ll never be good enough for even half the fans!
What I don’t understand is Hamlin said, “I didn’t want to tear up the car and not finish the race,” he said. “The bottom line is we had to stop or we were going to get a DNF.” Well, why did he then, after the caution came out, drive the car in to the pits? If he was worried about tearing up the car, then he should have stopped and let them tow him in or something. That excuse makes no sense to me. What do you guys think?
Driving the car at 20-30MPH is a lot different then driving it at 80-90mph

Yes, I know that, but he didn’t have to drive it 80-90 to get to the pits. The only thing that would happen is that he would be black flagged for not maintaning track speed, but that wouldn’t matter anyway because he would be going into the pits. All I’m saying is, he didn’t have to stop to bring out the caution, I think he could have made it to the pits without the caution.
Bottom line is that he still drove to the pits!
and its too bad he had to do that because he had the #1 car all night and deserved to win at his home track, Jr. did the same thing in Bristol and nothing happened to him either.Jeff, Fisha and Howie are right NASCAR never makes the right call according to you guys on here you always have something to complain about, Maybe you should all buy NASCAR and see if you can run it better
whoever on here thinks that Denny did that so Kyle could win are crazy, Denny wasnt thinkin of Kyle im sure, the poor guy just led 382 laps and was probadly not thinking at all. he wanted that win bad and deserved that win. NASCAR monitors all 43 channels and if team orders were given they would have known about it and no one heard any team orders come over the radio. this isnt F1 , this is NASCAR.
Too bad Junior’s fans look for any possible mistake, flaw or movement that would remove all doubt from their minds that Junior wrecked, because, well, he’s Junior. That, and he doesn’t *cough* recover from crashes as well as some of the more successful drivers on the racing circuit. Don’t tell that to Junior’s fans, though.
They will point fingers at people who have contact with Junior’s car, but erase their memory banks when Junior wrecked Busch six months ago in Kansas. What’s that, you don’t remember that? I do.
Junior actually apologized for it.
“I don’t blame him for being upset because I ran into him,” said Junior. “I was screaming at him all the way down the backstretch, ‘Save it! Save it! Save it!’ He made it almost all the way down the backstretch, and then I lost sight of him.”
“I apologize to Kyle and his team and fans”
The Junior Nation screams and yells about Denny Hamlin stopping on the track, thereby bringing out a caution and giving Busch a chance to catch up to Junior on the restart, even though Busch was catching up to Junior on every turn. The dirty cheater! How dare Hamlin do that?
Never mind the fact that Junior himself has been penalized for that very same infraction.
On lap 431 of 500, in May 2004’s Food City’s 500 at Bristol, Earnhardt Jr. intentionally spun out to bring out a caution, and admitted it as well, saying, “I had a loose wheel and I didn’t have any choice but to spin the car out to get a caution. So I went down in the corner, had some clear room behind me, and I just spun it out. The caution came out, I put the clutch in and got going. What the hell else was I supposed to do? Go a lap down? Go two laps down?”
Well now, what do you have to say about that.
” The Evil Stepmom”
Yep, I bet you would want to be the “Evil Step Mom”. All that power and money to use to push the little people around with. of course you couldn’t get a husband and 1/2 the racing world hates you but what the hell, go for it..What a admirable quest that would be. To bad in the real world you have to contend with just being a track groupie..
Jr spun out 4 years ago and took the blame for it like a real man. Is that the best you got to toss out to make a case with ??? He is a much improved and respected competitor now. To bad you can’t say that about Busch…

Sam , if you read what I wrote him back it was about him not comprehending a statement and twisting it all around so that is why I wrote it with the boyfriend part so he would see how he twisted stuff .
The real issue here is he stopped on the track to bring out the caution which is very dangerous to himself and the other drivers. This action should have should have a penalty and two laps doesnt quite cut it they were going to lose two laps anyway. The penalty does nothing to discourage others from doing the same thing. To make my point perfectly clear the correct thing to do is pit as soon as you know you have a problem and he knew he had a problem 5 laps earlier.
George, you are 100% correct.
