Hamlin parked at Talladega for bump-drafting

NASCAR cracked down on bump-drafting in the first Nextel Cup practice Friday at Talladega Superspeedway, and Denny Hamlin was the first culprit. Hamlin was parked late in the session, though he said his Joe Gibbs Racing was finished in that practice anyway.
“They made a general warning right at the beginning to everyone to stop using the front bumpers, and after that I got hit probably 20 to 30 times,” Hamlin said. “So I figured I’d just keep doing what I was doing. Right there at the end, I guess I was a little excessive.”
“They said Gibbs cars in specific, they had an eye out on,” Hamlin said. “I wonder what makes us different than anyone else, other than we were the first three cars in line. We were working well together, and when I say working well together, we were pushing each other well.
“But they said they didn’t want any contact, and we broke that rule. So we’re going sit have to sit out for a while.”
NASCAR officials said they parked Hamlin for refusing to heed a NASCAR directive.
“I was finished anyway, so they parked me there at the end. We asked them, ‘What’s the difference between us and everyone else with the front and back bumpers beat off?’ We were on TV when we were doing it. Daggone television cameras.
“We’re done anyway. They can park us for 15 minutes, they could park us for an hour, they could park us for the rest of the day. We’re done.”

Sounds like some of Tony’s attitude is rubbing off on Denny LOL
I think as of lately, Denny’s ego is getting rather large. I used to like him, but with the attitude lately, I am starting to not! I understand it’s practice, shouldn’t they practice bump drafting also!!

I agree, It’s gonna happen in the race they might as well get esed to it now!
And they wonder why they’re talking about not selling out the race on Sunday? Jeez, I can’t figure it out for the life of me! What a bunch of morons.
It’s all Kyle Petty and Robby’s fault.
Wait, what?
Denny Hamlin wants it bad, what can you say? Don’t you think these guys are also kinda peeved about how lame the COT is on such a track? I think that his attitude is similar to that of Kyle Busch…(except Denny gets wayyyy cooler TV commercials) But oh well, NASCAR has to do what they feel they gotta do!
GO JIMMIE JOHNSON!!!
i agree luv kahne i used to like denny myself but anymore he is getting to into himself im waiting on him to blame it on “the pressure of being in the chase” haha
I don’t care for Denny either and am tired of him putting the blame on everyone but himself and I wouldn’t care if they parked him for the race too, LOL
But I also don’t understand why they couldn’t bump draft in practice, sounds nuts to me, don’t they practice to see what to expect from their cars and the others during the race? confusing, oh well it’s Nascar!
I agree with KK. Park him for the race. He and Kyle Busch are 2 peas out of the same pod. Put all the blame on someone else.
Nascar warned the drivers that if they bump drafted they would be parked. Denny broke that rule, and he needs to be knocked down a notch or two.
NASCAR has always had their favorites. But if you speak out negatively
about NASCAR as a driver, your going to be punished. If Hamlin and Stewart were yes men like Gordon, Johnson and Jr. it all would have been ignored. There were other people bump drafting out there and
nothing was said to them. Why dosen’t NASCAR let these drivers race like they use to. AJ Foyt once said restricter plate races were like driving TAXI CABS, not race cars
At first, I thought Denny was okay, but over the past few months he has proven to me that his ego is going to overshadow his success. I really don’t care for him too much now.
I hope the 48 spanks them boys and gets that much closer to a second (consecutive) championship.
This Car HAS Not been Tested in the Draft, this was a Practice Session. If the drivers didnt test drafting then, testing it in the Race would be too late NASCAR. unless they want huge wrecks because of NOT testing during practice all aspects of this Car running in PACKS.
Oh, I thought that was the whole idea NASCAR. Running in a PACK at 195mph……..
Here we go Again, Dont Race, Dont Touch, he is not on side. he touched me, he’s looking at me. . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NASCAR has turned this super sport into a sport for the mice, not Men of Racing History.
I thought they made the bumpers the same height on the COT’s just for stuff like this so the back tires dont come off the ground during bump drafting. If they cant even touch then what was the point? These cars arent the best aerodynamically so they are going to need a push to pass. I guess I just dont understand Nascar rules anymore.
First I have to say I love this web site. Great stories and interveiws, and feedback.
If they can’t test everything about these cars durring practice, there will be more caution laps then green flag laps.
Leave them boys alone!
i like how everyone says kyle busch and denny Hamlin put the blame game on everyone
i think you all are forgetting one other person and thats tony. that whole team loves too play the blame game lol. so next time dont forget too add tony……..
BTW i think it is good denny was parked for 15 minutes for not listing and all
hope he learns his lesson for today
