Hamlin nearly collapses after Texas race

Denny Hamlin was talking with reporters on pit road about his fifth-place finish in the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway when he nearly fainted and collapsed Sunday. It brought an abrupt end to the interview, as a wobbly Hamlin staggered to a nearby golf cart with the assistance of team personnel.
He then was whisked away to be given fluids and to rest, after which team officials insisted he was fine. “He’ll need to get some fluids in him, and he’ll be all right.” Hamlin stood off to the side for several minutes before even attempting to answer questions, taking sips from a water bottle and having a cold towel applied to the back of his neck. He then answered three questions before nearly collapsing, with one of his answers being about his physical condition.
“I didn’t feel well [during the race],” Hamlin said. “It’s just the heat, the long runs. So I’ll try to get better. It really hit me when I got out of the car. I was just really dizzy and I knew I needed to sit down.”

one of the crews jobs is to push fluids into the driver during the race. In this case it looks like they let him down…
that, or his coolpack’s tube came out of the helmet. Now that we have full face helmets required, you can’t hand a drink through the window- the mouthguard goes over the mouth (common sense) and you can’t exactly lift your helmet up. So now they use coolpacks. So the tube must have come out or he drank too much too early.
Glad he is ok!

Not only that but if the weather report calls for a warm race day, it’s their job to make sure the driver gets plenty of fluids the entire weekend so they are prepared for Sunday.
I think the drivers can still use regular gatorade bottles
can’t they? I’m pretty sure I have seen an “in-car” shot
of Tony Stewart squirting gatorade into his mouth, I believe
it was at Indy last year?
That or he was squirting water onto his face, but I don’t
think that was it. Can’t remember.
Yeah they can, most of them run the pouch, and even some of those guys have bottles (the pouch doesn’t stay cool forever)
I remember last year one of the drivers had Nutrigrain bars taped to the dash that he ate during caution.
I guess its easier or harder depending on the helmet setup you use.
hahahahhahahahahahaha, That’s really all I’m going to say….
hahhahahhahaha.

Kahne sometimes uses a bottle. When he had that sinus infection a few weeks ago, he was complaining about the cup holder thing he had to put it in.
Glad Denny’s okay.
