Robby Gordon has been on the throwing end of a helmet flying through the air at a car, and he was on the receiving end of such a heave in the RoadLoans.com 200 on Saturday.
After sending Tony Raines into the wall, Raines got out of his car and chucked his helmet at Gordon’s car as it circled the track under caution at Dover International Speedway. The helmet bounced on the ground and hit the hood of the car.
“He did it on purpose,” Raines said. “That’s Robby Gordon. Every time you think he’s done something stupid, he one-ups himself. He’s an idiot.”
Gordon swore he didn’t do it on purpose.
“I’m going to take the blame for that one,” Gordon said. “One-hundred percent my fault.”
Raines was called to the NASCAR hauler following the race and faces additional penalties. Gordon didn’t do anything to retaliate. If he did, he faced a possible indefinite suspension from NASCAR.

i’m a robby fan, they all make mistakes but raines shouldn’t have throwm his helmet at robby’s car. they should have let raines calm down then he should have talked to robby intsaed of being so upset over the crash.
Robby claims he didn’t want to lose 2 spots, so he cut down thinking he had cleared Raines. He didn’t. Raines spotter made things worse yelling that Robby did it on purpose. Robby admitted he goofed. Now I hope Raines gets a BIG penalty.
BIG penalty for what? Throwing a helmet? Jesus, this sport needs more of this stuff to happen.. we need more excitement like this..
I think Robby Gordon was pretty honorable for owning up the way he did. Seems pretty rare these days for anyone to take responsibility for their error. And even though rivalries are fun, Raines jumped the gun a bit. He looked a bit like an ass after Gordon said he understood why Raines was upset. Besides, who cares about a rivalry between Robby Gordon and a soon to be unemployed Tony Raines?
Not a Robby fan, but he did own up to the crash, he hasn’t ever done that in the past.
robby is on probation, so he has to be careful what he does and says. i think tony raines spotter is what got tony so fired up. if he hadn’t said what he did on the radio i don’t think it would have gotten so heated. robby has been the thrower and now the throwee. live and learn or pay the price!
A big penalty for poor sportsmanship and conduct detrimental to NASCAR.
HAHAHAHAHA! That was pretty funny! Robby Gordon is a big jerk!!
