Robby GordonIf Robby Gordon Motorsports loses its appeal next week of the penalty levied by NASCAR for a rules violation committed during Daytona Speedweek, Robby Gordon may choose to enter the Indianapolis 500.

Robby Gordon Motorsports was penalized 100 points and fined $100,000 for installing an illegal nose on the No. 7 Dodge at the outset of Speedweek.

Gordon told ESPN.com Friday that if his team loses the appeal, and is unable to rebound into Chase contention by May, he will attempt to run the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in the same day.

In the past, drivers — including Gordon from 2002 to 2004 — have attempted to run both races in the same day. But the races’ start times in recent years have created logistical conflicts.

“If the fine sticks, I will go to the Indianapolis 500,” Gordon said. “The only way I wouldn’t is if we’re in a position to make the Chase in May.”

If indeed this happens, Gordon is uncertain whether he would field his own car or drive someone else’s. Gordon does believe, though, that he has an excellent opportunity to win this appeal, which will be heard March 5 by the National Stock Car Commission in Daytona Beach, Fla.

“You never know with [appeals], but I’ve learned a lot through this process,” Gordon said. “And the more I learn, the more I feel like we have in our favor.”

The only problem with this is Dallara is already very close on Tubs for all the CCWS teams coming in, and making more for the new full time teams is their first priority. So while he might want to run it, its going to be hard to get his hands on a car.

he already has a car and a ride . John Menard offered him a ride anytime he wants it full or part time

Ah.. ok, Because I know there was some talk that Penske and Ganassi would have to give up some of their extra tubs so that the new teams would have cars, but if John and Robby have an extra car or two stashed away then he’ll be fine.

Now all he needs to do is work on loosing some weight so he can keep up with the lightweights that run over there. (I think the reason they come to NASCAR is because they can’t stay skinny enough to stay fast over there… l0l)

Robby, if you leave, they win. You can’t pee off the powers that be if you’re not here to do so. Stick around. It’s early.

They can spray him with PAM before they try squeezing him in. About 25 years ago, we’d spray the race cars at dirt shows with PAM so the muck wouldn’t stick to the cars. Even a few asphalt shows too. It kept debris sticking to the car down to a minimum. A few years ago, a genius puts in in a spray can with his label on it and people line up to buy it a $12 a can.

A lot of people use that trick with Asphalt Modifieds so the rubber flying off the wheels don’t stick to the bodies

Exactly. It makes sense, doesn’t it?

I haven’t seen Tony in an IRL type car since he gained the weight back (and even when he raced IRL he was skinnier)

Jared lost weight and Tony found it. Tony will lose it soon enough. And I can’t believe an anorexic looking guy like Kurt the Squirt makes fun of anyone’s physique.
