Gordon says fatherhood won’t be a distraction

Four-time NASCAR Cup champion Jeff Gordon has heard all the talk. Will parenthood dim his competitive spirit? Will pending fatherhood cut into his focus?
But he’s not worried about it. The driver and his team are off to a strong start with no plans to slack off - even when Gordon is balancing new fatherhood (he’s due to become a father for the first time this summer) and a championship race.
“There is nothing that is going to take away from what we do as race-car drivers when we get inside that car,” he said. “Honestly, I have got so many distractions already, I don’t see how it could get a whole lot worse. I feel like I am lacking in sleep now, and I know that is going to get worse, but you just deal with it once you get to the race track.
“There is nothing that is going to be more exciting or more motivating than to actually have an addition to my family … I would have to go back today and tell my daughter why I didn’t win the race, so I want to take her to victory lane.”

I think Gordon has been distracted by off the track activities for a long time and I think is a reason he hasn’t been a serious threat for another Cup title since 01.
The distractions are caused by his own actions though. He needs to learn how to control his mouth for one and that getting the last word isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. He also really needs to worry more about himself and less of the other drivers who have no real effect on him.
Gordon will do just fine!
