Jeff GordonThe tires being used at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend feature new codes, and that has at least one driver concerned heading into Sunday’s race. Especially in the wake of last week’s Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, where drivers said Goodyear brought a tire that was inappropriate for that particular track.

According to a Goodyear news release, the tires provided for Nationwide and Sprint Cup series teams at BMS were developed based on information gained during last year’s August race at the 0.533-mile speedway.

“I’ll be honest with you, I question what they did here at Bristol,” four-time Cup champion Jeff Gordon said Friday. “They have a new … left-side construction compound [and] right-side compound that has never been tested here.

“They are going off last years race, but we have made our cars better.” Gordon, driver of the Hendrick Motorsports No.24 Chevrolet, said “some high wear” was evident during Friday’s rain-shortened practice session, but admitted a lack of rubber on the track could be a contributing factor.

“But we have different characteristics, high wear and if this rain keeps up, Sunday is going to be an issue,” he said. “I’m not trying to throw Goodyear under the bus here, it is just that testing these tires is crucial. I don’t know what we have to do to get the proper amount of teams and dates for that to happen.”

If its the same tire they used last august what is gordon complaining about,if nascar an goodyear didnt think it would be tire that will work there im sure they wouldnt have brought it hes the 1st ive heard complain about it,not sure but going by what ive read tony said the tire was great according to this mornings paper.

Of course Gordon is going to pick up on the tire issue and whine, We all know that NASCAR will LISTEN to him nad not chastize him for any complaints. Hell, they’ll probably make changes because IT’s GORDON TALKING. Make sure you complain aboutthe next thing someone else already complained about LONG after it was stated in the first place. If he had issues, he should have spoke up before… but then again… sounds like Vegas all over. Let’s do it and we’ll only make a statement after it effects us negativily or after someone else has put in their two cents. Always trying to take the glory. He’s such an ___.

No matter what tire you have and what track you are at, you will always have way more wear on a green track. Maybe Jeff is just looking for an excuse encase he doesn’t do that well in the race….. l0l

I’m not a Gordon fan. But I agree. I’m tired of people
says he’s complaining everytime he opens his mouth
about his opinion. He’s just giving his thoughts people.

Get your facts clear, before you all start accus-
ing JG of complaining. He said the teams have
made improvements on the cars since 8/07
and the right side compound, has not been
tested. These two factors alone, could make
    the tires unsafe.
Jealousy is a mean and vicious evil. Isn’t it?

What makes me mad at Jeff is he talks out both sides of his mouth. He gripped about the tires but then threw Tony under the bus a day later after he agreed the day before. Then he says he doesn’t want to throw anyone under the bus! Sheesh!!!! He sure let Junior and Tony speak their minds then he changes his mind. I like Jeff, he’s a good person, heck of a driver but he’s as wishy-washy as a politician. Perhaps Jeff should enter the race for President? He’s old enough!
He’s not the first to complain I heard Kyle Busch say something today as well as Clint Bowyer.

Why is Tony allowed to complain all he wants and have people say that its good that he says what he thinks and that is why people like him, but then when Jeff or even Jimmie complain about things everyone calls them whiners or say that he shouldn’t be complaining etc.? Thats a big double standard for ya!! Get over it.

Jeff whine? Yep, more than Rusty ever did. Built in excuse in case he flops this weekend.

I’m glad someone else is complaining about the tires,
especially some one they have to take seriously(a 4 time champion).
A tire raced in August and a tire raced in April is like
    comparing apples to oranges.
ps. I’m not a big fan of Gordon but it’s good he’s
finally trying to showing some b*lls.

u guys are rediculous…when tony “fat-guy” stewert complains its all of a sudden ok but when jeff gordon just mentions something hes automatically whining. seriously make up your mind before u post and make yourselves look like absolute idiots.

Jeff is one hell of a driver and yes hes talking about tires being a factor of sundays race. i agree everyone who bashes jeff are wanna-be’s because the fact is he beating records and the gordon bashers don’t like it so they open their mouth to say hes complaining when he talks. GET OVER IT PEOPLE HE RACES CAUSE ITS HIS PASSION and none of the drivers don’t complain, they just aren’t on tv when they cry.

p.s. yes i’m a huge fan of Jeff and Robby Gordon.

    simply pathedic.

If this was anyone but Gordon people wouldn’t be saying he is whining. I admit I hate watching Jeff when he whines but I just think he is stating his opinion here. I think all the drivers are concerned about the performance of the tires lately.

A few weeks ago I sat in turn 4 in Las Vegas and it seemed like every lap these guys were gonna get a blowout entering that turn. When Tony Stewarts tire blew it sounded like a cannon going off and scared the bejesus out of me. Same with Kurt Buschs tire just not as bad.

Read the story better george before you speak up? it states the tire was developed off of last years august race!!!!!! meaning its basically the same tire.
