Jeff Gordon may not have been thrilled to find himself second in the Goody’s Cool Orange 500 at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, but he wasn’t interested in roughing up teammate Jimmie Johnson too much in the closing laps.
Not that Gordon didn’t beat and bang on his teammate. He just refused to spin out Johnson in order to earn a win of his own.
Gordon clearly had the faster car in the closing laps of the race, but said the car of tomorrow just can’t pull up and pass somebody. Gordon consistently could ease his nose inside of Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports’ Chevrolet entering the turns, but then Johnson would rocket off of them and back in front of Gordon.
“It was a great race, and I basically had to wreck him to win it, and I’m not going to wreck my teammate for a win,” Gordon said. “I tried to move him several times, but he’s tough here and he ran his line, did what he needed to do.”
- Gordon won’t be running the Indy 500
- Hamlin puts Daytona wreck behind him, focuses on Chicagoland
- Gordon says fatherhood won’t be a distraction
- Stewart cools off after Daytona wreck, says he’s ok with Hamlin
- Gordon says Vickers is not a teammate

Just gives Gordon something else to whine about. Boo hoo.
That was an exciting finish! Glad the Hendrick boys got 1-2!
Having class and not wrecking your teammate really just ticks
the haters off, doesn’t it? It’s so funny that they spend their
time making sure they get to whine about the whiner! Hahaha!
But he’ll wreck drivers that aren’t his teammates?
Total class. That’s why Jeff is the best. I can feel it. This is Jeff’s year. 2007 Nextel Cup Champion!!!!
Jeff has the class not to wreck anyone fora win. Jeff Gordon has never ever wrecked someone to win. But you can’t say that about the earnhardts, Kenseth, or @$#%@# Tony Stewart. If it would had been anyone else in 2nd place, Johnson would had been in the fence. He is and always bethe best active driver to day. With more wins, more championships and more laps lead than any other active driver, People who bad mouth him are just jealous cuz thier precious Jr. is a pussy who will never mount to be anything like his legend daddy. So Put your money where your mouth is and Put some doe up. I will bet anyone 100.00 that Jeff beats Sr’s 76 wins and gets his 5th cup this year.
Hey confused 4 life , ask Rusty Wallace if Jeffie has ever shoved him into thwe wall at Bristol to win a race , I think he’ll set you straight.
Actually, Gordon has never wrecked anyone that I can remember,
but has has moved them out of they way. There’s a big
difference.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTHguIvkYIg…oh I guess this 15 car wreck at Daytona didnt really happen then. Harvick got punted by what Dupont sponsored car???
That video you tried to leave in your comment didn’t load. Jeff Gordon has never wrecked anyone to win a race. He has moved them out of his way. Even Nascar will vouch for that. So I think a couple of people need to go back and look at the archives.
A drivers job is to win races, you can move someone out of the way to win a race without wrecking them, and I am all for that, I just can;t see rolling over and playing dead and let the guy in front of you win a race if you have a car to win it with. Wreck them? NO move them over YES
Since the video wouldnt load , it was just a clip of Gordon “moving Harvick out of the way” at Talladega in 2002 and it caused a 15 car wreck. But in the fantasy world yall live in , thats ok I guess.
From what I understand, it’s harder in the COT to move cars out of the way. Something about
the height of the front bumper in relation to the back… PLUS, Hendrick informed both drivers to see the big picture
and not risk a wreck. I’m sure Jeff wanted to, but he did the right thing, I think.
Ah, the NASCAR-ization of motor racing, you gotta love it.
Now it’s okay to “move someone out of the way” to win. Just as long as you don’t wreck ‘em. Wonderful.
Motor racing was about passing and passing cleanly. Not anymore. What’s the sense of bumping someone out of the way to win?
of course it’s okay to move someone out of the way to win just as long as you don’t wreck them. just like it’s okay to move someone out of the way at any time in any race to get ahead
that’s what it’s all about!
jeff gordon did what he is very known to do!to race clean,he is not tony stewart or the rest of them he has an heart for racing and so he thinks before he does somthing dumb!!in other word he is #1 go jeff go
Jeff Gordon is the man. The stats are what say he’s the top dog of todays Nascar. With more wins, more championships. How can you say he isn’t #1? The funny thing is, I didn’t get 1 person to put thier money where thier mouth is when it comes to the #24 team. I guess that just goes to show that every gordon hater is nothin but a sniveling bitch who is just jealous cuz he is the nest!!!!
the best! sorry. not nest.
Maybe no one put up their money because you spelled “their” wrong - twice - and no one
knew what you were asking. At least the sniveling bitch Gordon haters are somewhat literate -
reading this message board shows what kind of idiot fans he has!
And this is coming from someone who spells girl with 8 l’s. so who is the illiterate now? So why don’t you cough up some doe smart ass??
Doe = female deer
Dough = makes bread or slang for money.
I would gladly put up money for a dictionary for you. Or maybe you should use spell check.
Perhaps it would define “champion” for you.
And I would much rather be a “smart ass” than a dumb ass.
