Gordon gets fine, probation and warning from NASCAR
Quote selected text Published August 7th, 2007 in NASCAR News
Nextel Cup driver Robby Gordon received a stiff fine and probation along with a not-so-subtle warning from NASCAR on Tuesday in response to his actions during and after Saturday’s Busch Series race at Montreal.
Gordon, who was parked and sat out Sunday’s Cup race at Pocono as part of his punishment, was fined $35,000 and placed on probation through the end of the year.
Gordon’s penalty also came with the following stipulation, spelled out in the NASCAR release:
“The fine and probation also carried the stipulation that if, during the remaining NASCAR events in 2007, there is another action by Gordon that is deemed by NASCAR officials as detrimental to stock car racing or to NASCAR, or is disruptive to the orderly conduct of an event, he will be suspended indefinitely from NASCAR.”
- Champ Car Hands Down Penalty on Paul Tracy
- Gordon slapped with penalty by NASCAR for actions in Atlanta race
- Edwards and Busch placed on probation by NASCAR
- Gordon gets points back and no suspension, but will have to pay increased fine-UPDATE
- National Stock Car Racing Commission rescinds probation for Stewart, Logano

Hm. Pretty hefty fine as far as the Busch series goes. I have no idea of the history of fines in that series, but it seems like $10,000 is pretty steep based on my recollection, which would make this one quite large, as it should be. I actually think his actions, justified or not, deserved a bigger monetary fine than this, but you know NASCAR… They think that sitting him out of the Cup race was a large part of the fine already!
I guess he’ll be on his best behavior for the rest of the year… It will remain to be seen if that’s good enough to keep himself out of trouble!
Wow, talk about making a not so great situation even worse. They have just handled this thing from start to finish horribly.
The only right move that Nascar could make in this case.
Dude, what if he gets suspended indeffinetly. NASCAR would not hear the last from Robby Gordon, wow, hefty fines and things. Awesome
dude that sucks and messed up 2 nascar messed up that whole call but u cant argue with them
NASCAR has massacred this entire situation. I don’t completely condone what Robby did, however, I don’t think NASCAR sending him to 13th or 14th was fair either. They basically setup the events of the last few laps of that race. I applaud Robby for standing up to NASCAR, but I still think it was childish to do those burnouts at the end. I would have gone straight to victory lane.
I do not like Robby in any way but NASCAR screwed this up royally. He won that race and they know it.
He was wrong in his after actions but they were waaaaay wrong in the call about his position o nthe track when the yellow came out.
Thats bullsh*t he doesnt need any penetlys its not his fault that he got spun out under caution thats crap. If I could get ahold of NASCAR i’d tell them that that was the poorest decision ever made by them. Thats stupid NASCAR your a bunch of stupid idiots. Its stupid that he didnt resume his position.
Nascar has become a show like wrestling. Gordon was just doing his part of the show…..Then gets punished like he was the Bad guy……
When and how does NASCAR get fined? They don’t! That’s the problem. Even the government sues and fines the government. Everyone has to answer to NASCAR, yet they answer to no one. That’s the Kingdom Of The France Family and it will never change. That’s a shame.
He’s not my favorite driver, but I still say he got screwed big time
i think NASCAR HQ might want to start getting some 24/7/365 security guards..igf i was him i’d pull out the paint ball guns and spray paint.
I Think This Is Stupid, Nascarv Is Just Covering For There Mistake. Robby Did Nothing Wrong, And NASCAR Knows It, They Just Don’t Want To Admit It
Her is the way to get a hold of NASCAR…Good luck on getting anything but an auomated response. I am under the impression they do not care to much what we think?

Dear NASCAR Fan,
NASCAR has great respect and appreciation for their fans around the world.
Because of the volume of letters we receive we are not able to reply to every one. However, each and every letter is important to us. Our staff personally reviews each correspondence and is then cataloged as to the nature of the comments.
NASCAR thanks you for taking the time from your busy schedule to write a letter and for your continued support of our sport.
Regards,

Nascar,
I have been a loyal fan for the past 30 years. I have seen some of my hero’s do amazing things with a race car, and I been around long enough to see allot of the greats retire, and some of them leave this earth also, so I consider myself a diehard Nascar Racing fan!
My reason for writing is that I have a real concern on the ruling this past weekend. You know we all have our favorites, that’s what makes the Monday morning conversations so interesting, that’s what keeps hundreds of thousands watching and going to the races, but with the blatant misrepresentation of the rules this past weekend I’m really afraid that’s all about to change.
The fans that have been following this sport for any length of time have seen drivers make mistakes and take things to the extreme, we also used to see errors corrected when the governing body made a mistake. Why is this different? I am not really a Robbie Gordon fan, but I certainly admire his talent and his desire. When hundreds of thousands of people see on live TV what is going on it is had to screw it up and not correct the wrong. That rule was put in place as a safety factor to keep cars from running over someone! Not to penalize a driver who spins out.
I will be the first to agree Robbie did not handle the situation correctly, but he was slammed into a corner and reacted. Put yourself in his place for just 30 seconds, forget you are an official with rules to manipulate and see how you would have felt. You know when a driver has that much talent and that much desire emotions are bound to be part of the package, and that’s what makes us all individuals. So I think before you climb back up on the soap box you might want to look in the mirror and ask yourself do I have as much confidence in my ability to make the right call as Robbie does to drive that car and help promote this great sport? Not a show, Nascar is a racing sport!

Scooter: that is the same response i get every time i send them a message on anything but i keep doing it in hope that if they get enough they will do something.
I have been going to and watching the Nascar racing ever since I was a kid. I was born in
1970 and like Eddie have seen people die and retire. Nascar is making a mockery of
themselves. They change and bend rules in the race for the person they want to win.
I am not a Robby fan but this has really got me fired up. Not bad enough they took the win
from him and a fine, they did not let him race the Nextel Cup series on Sunday. Nascar
should be looked into by everyone. The sport used to be great, what’s the sayin ” Rubbin
is Racin” the drivers can’t rub or race because they are scared that they will be fined
for what they do. Everyone should not watch or go to one race this year and then maybe
we will be heard. Everyone should write to Nascar and overload their mailbox and then lets
see what happens. I bet that Nascar would listen to the fans then.
Very well stated Mr. Thornton. I completely agree. Unfortunately, I believe what it will take to right
the NASCAR ship is a loss of the fan base. I attend 3 races each season. This is not a cheap endeavor
when I look at the cost of tickets, rv travel, camping site at the track, etc. I am beginning to grow
tired of adding to the France family fortune when the product they are promoting is looking more and more
like WWE or whatever the wrestling soaps are titled.
BTW I am not a R Gordon fan but I do respect his competitive spirit and I have just read on another site
that Robby will run a 2nd entry at Watkins with Marcos Ambrose as the driver. Say what you will, but
that’s class.
I think that NASCAR is the one that needs to be suspended indefinitely from NASCAR…
In this case, GONE WRONG…………… like I saw it, Yellow, leader is taken out, R. Gordon. NO BLACK FLAG !!!!!!!!!!!!
where are Fines for that one NASCAR…………..
NASCAR needs a kick in the butt and a shot in the Head…………
They are too big. too strong and Think they OWN THE TRACKS AND DRIVERS………………
If that had been their Poster Boy J. Gordon, and it had happened. Dang, Nation…………… Nascar would have torn the track up an flipped the entire field to get him up front.
COME ON NASCAR. we are blind, dumb and stupid.. just plain, Fed up with your Ways of BS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hats to R. Gordon for Standing to YOU Nascar., I think T. Stewart and R. Gordon, Along with Spencer, Harvick and the Busch Kids, They just may get themselves some more fans for slapping Nascar in the face.
suspend him, now. he is a little prick
Damn Robbie, Expensive Burn Out!
Robby Gordon may be talented, but I don’t think Nextel Cup is for him. In stock car racing
Robby Gordon is his own worst enemy.
OK, heres the deal on my part. Robby Gordon passed Marcos and then the caution came out. Marcos then spun Robby and Nascar wouldnt let Robby start second. Robby did what I would do and stayed out and wrecked Ambrose and did the burnouts. In my opnion and what is the right opinoin Robby Gordon won the race and if Kevin Harvick would have had some nuts and said I didnt win Robby won then this would be a different story. If they wanted to suspend him for a race it should not of been in the Nextel Cup Series. Busch and Cup are two different things. Nascar did a crappy thing and Robby Gordon won the race there should be no fines and no penaltys to him what so ever. Robby and Tony Stewart are the only Nascar driver who will tell them like it is.
Nascar made the wrong call during the race , restarted the race with the cars in supposedly the wrong order. So to me it appears that nascar caused most of this situation and then wanted to make an example out of Robby for not backing down. Nascar needs to have an indepent council that has the power to right Mike Helton and Brian Frances mistakes , cause God knows they sure will never admit they ever make mistakes. If you look at the fan responses on this blog , its about 90 % that Nascar was wrong. I rest my case.
Poor Robbie…. He just happens to lose them the same way he wins them. That’s racing.
To “H” “E” “double-toothpicks” with NASCAR!!!!!
The DRIVERS are the stars, not NASCAR!!!
I guess France Sr. spelled out the future when he, pistol on hip, dictated to the drivers that he knew how to use the pistol and there was gonna be NO drivers union.
I am far from a Robby fan, but Lord help me, I think he got screwed! He always complains about his getting screwed and for once I agree. He isn’t the best driver, but he isn’t the worst either.
I can’t believe the way that panned out. Nascar made a huge screw up and that forced Robbie to make one from the heart. I feel for him (this one time). No one likes to get screwed out of a win, no one!
Oh WOW! They stiff him hard for his little display, yet let BUSCH off?! WHat a crock. Again, nascar KEEPING to NOT keeping the rules straight and balanced!
This is ridiculous that they get Robby Gordon this way and just hand out a “probation for 6 weeks” to a guy that caused moentary damages to another racers car, could have resulted in injury to another driver, and for the actions by the pit entrance with people STANDING in the area which could have been body injuries! Yet, that’s only a little slap on a finger not even his hand.
Sick! NASCAR needs to get itself straight or more people are going to leave. I actually placed nascar on probation this year. Its their last chance to play it straight with me. I am sick of these displays such as Busch’s, and the miracouls recovery of Gordon going from a lap down to leading the race all by a perfectly thrown caution for debris, that just happens to favor that guy. There have been other intentional cautions for “debris” that has changed the outcome of the race and/or postions always working in favor of the same select few. Yet, you hardly ever are shown that debris. Then they don’t trow a caution when it is CLEARLY needed and a safety issue until they stroll along to it. Which always happens to be after one particular driver just made that pass to gain that all important position. I could go on with many instances of creating their own outcome to a race then the old way of things as to a guy racing to win on his own.
Seriously though, nascar is way off base with its so called “detrimental to racing” excuses to use as the backdrop to some punishments. They need to define that better and institute it to ONLY that in what normal people with common sense see that phrase as what things like Kurt Busch has done. I am not trowing anymore of my money into any more of Nascars fat cats pockets.
Wow that’s funny. I left a long scathing comment on Nascars Mishandeling of this once again. And, well my comment was never placed. I wonder if they’ve gotten into the pockets here to?
