Robby GordonRobby Gordon says the future of his Sprint Cup organization could be in jeopardy if the penalties NASCAR levied after the Daytona 500 stand up under appeal.

Gordon was fined 100 driver and 100 owner points for having an unapproved nose cover on his Dodge Charger. Crew chief Frank Kerr was fined $100,000 and suspended for six races.

The penalties have been placed on hold until the National Stock Car Commission hears the appeal, which means Gordon remains ninth in points after his eighth-place finish at Daytona and Kerr will remain on his pit box.

Had Gordon not appealed he would be 41st in points heading into Sunday’s race at California Speedway. If he couldn’t work his way back into the top 35 over the next four races — the first five races are set on last year’s points — he would be in a position of having to qualify for races.

“A hundred could be life-threatening to our team,” Gordon said before Friday’s first practice. “If this sticks I don’t know what our plan will be. I think [IRL and CART are] back together, and I think I can drive one of those cars.”

I’m sure that scares the crap out of nascar.

  2. 2 Bob

Robby might look at this as a raw deal for his 1 car team but we have long asked for NASCAR to apply the rules for infractions evenly no matter what team or driver was involved.
Now that NASCAR does that Robby thinks its unfair to him because he might suffer more that a well funded team. I believe Robby knew that would be a determent when he formed his small operation so this should come as no great surprise to him now…
Gordon Racing should have been more vigilant and spent a greater amount of time in making sure these kinds of “errors by others” didn’t happen to them knowing the consequences would be so life-threatening to the operation…
Robby Gordon long ago found his real ability for driving and that is where he belongs IN THE DIRT not back in a Indy/Irl car where his self centered ego/ temper/abuse of owners equipment and just plain get outa my way attitude or I will wreck you or the car mind set will just be a determent to the other racers.
Wild out of control drivers with a Hugh ego and a Explosive temper belong in the desert where the chances are they will wreck themselves before they do real harm to others…

Can Robby even fit in one of those cars anymore?

I see him going to CORR and ALMS before he goes to the IRL, not to mention if he doesn’t have the money to stay cup racing, where is he going to get the money to go Indy Car racing

  4. 4 jr88fan

Funny that they apply THIS year points to a one race in season penalty, that is detrimentle to a drivers positioning/qaulifying of a rained out qaulifying, YET, they run on LAST years points as postioning to the start of a current race. Hmmm, so how does this years points keep him out, since they went of last years, yet the guys that moved to new teams carry their points from last years cars? Stupid!!!! Again, the great almighty speaks with its usual lack of consistencies in its own rules.

  5. 5 Birddog

Waa waa, I might have to qualify to race. Who cares. I think everyone should have to qualify at every track at every race. I dont care who your sponsors are or who your daddy is.

    Good riddance to bad rubbish!

Gordon quit crying do your time and move on, u got caught and NASCAR cracked down on you. Dont like it dont make this mistake again, if you wanna got to the dying racing league the IRL adios amigo, trust me it isnt any better over there same rules with 1/4 the fan base.

  8. 8 Fisha695 Registered User

The IRL is not a dieing racing league, and after yesterday they gained about 12 full time teams (24 or so drivers), 15 or so tracks and no direct competition in the form of Open Wheel racing.

  9. 9 Sam

Go for it robbie! We could afford to loose a few of the former open wheelers anyway. Nascar is everyones first choice.

  10. 10 Lee

I dont really agree with what nascar did after finding out the whole story but go ahead and leave and yes the irl is dead has been for years and champ and irl merging isnt gonna change anything,I live in kentucky an they gotta give tickets away to that crappy irl race an still only draw maybe 20 thousand.

  11. 11 Fisha695 Registered User

I wouldn’t want to go see an open-wheel race at Kansas either. Its just another cookie cutter track. Not to mention that would you pay what they wanted to see a race with 15 cars where only 5 or 6 of them have a chance to win….

  12. 12 Greg

I am on Robby’s side for the whole penalty thing, I think it was absurd…

However, I would be glad to see him go.

    Cya, Robby!

  13. 13 Amy

That’s a serious threat…. a field filler may leave the sport….. Oh my! So scary!!!…. Would anyone notice if he left…?

  14. 14 Tyler

All you guys make it sound like you hate Robby. And if you think about it whether you’re a Robby fan or not he IS the type of guy that makes NASCAR exciting him and Tony Stewart are the ONLY people who ARE NOT scared to speak their mind.

And then about him “cheating” it comes down to a wrong STICKER with the name avenger rather than the name CHARGER….. It was a charger nose with an anvenger sticker!!! EVERY SINGLE lap he ran at Daytona was with a charger nose they caught it even before he went on the track for the first practice. Difference between his story and Waltrip’s and Jr’s. Both of theirs were caught after practicing. Don’t blame Robby blame DODGE from who he got the nose from. The nose came directly from the manufacture didn’t go throught Evernham. NASCAR is in the wrong on this one. Seems like every time Robby runs good NASCAR fines him or finds something wrong. I think they hate single car teams. No one wants to talk about David Reutimann’s problem at Daytona with the carburetor that was caught BEFORE practice at Daytona the same with Gordon’s and what happens to the 00 they get put on probation BUT theres no penalty in points. NASCAR’s at wrong they need to fix it and if they don’t i HOPE Robby goes to IRL to get treated FAIRLY and i’ll watch that instead of NASCAR every week! RALLY FOR ROBBY!!!!!!!

  15. 15 Fisha695 Registered User

Tyler you got it a little bit backwards, the correct nose is a Avenger Nose with the Charger sticker, and he had the Charger nose (not yet approved by NASCAR) with the Charger sticker on it. It was found during initial inspection before any of the Cup cars were on the track. For all on track laps he turned at Daytona he had the Avenger (correct) nose, with the Charger Sticker.

The only difference on the nose’s is that the Charger grill indents are about an inch smaller then the old Avenger ones.

  16. 16 kevin

sounds like alot of peeps on here really don’t care what really happened with the whole nose fiasco.it also sounds like alot of idiots that are spoonfeed Nasscars golden nectar of WWE scripted B.S.! I’m really sorry JR. did’nt win Daytona and Robby finished ahead of him with the correct nose on the car. Remember haters he changed noses before the car hit the track.

He should just go full time in SCORE Trophy Truck. It’s the only place he’s really dominant.

Does anybody know who is currently part of the National Stock Car Commission?

I looked but all I can find is an article from 2005 saying “the commission, which is made up of track operators, businessmen and legendary racers like Bud Moore. They have experience in the sport but don’t have anything at stake so they can be fair.”

I checked Jayski but he didn’t have any info on who is on the Commission.

  22. 22 jr88fan

    DELETED….

I really feel that it is NOT neccesary to make comments about rape. And, to not only say it once, even though I understand your meaning you were attempting to convey, but did so again, in the same post.

It is offensive to some people. And, before anyone wants to make a snide remark about why I say this, yes, I was raped.

Nevermind my own experience, it is not something that should be made into a joke…. EVER. Please, don’t take this as a harsh tone nor a feel like you need to apologize. Let’s just all agree not to use those kinds of comments, please. Thanks. Take care.

Wait and see what happens before you really think of leaving Robbo. The open wheelesr realized they can pull in about 5 mill a year. That’s why they came. So don’t get silly just yet.

  24. 24 Fisha695 Registered User

I don’t think he was really serious about leaving, I think he just thought that he could intimidate NASCAR with the threat… But I say its still about 4 or 5 years to soon to be making statements like that. In a few years if this merger really makes the IRL the premier racing series in America, or even puts it ahead of the NHRA then maybe you could make threats of moving to that series…. MAYBE…..

Some of talk about Robby like he is some sort of cancer but in reality he is one of the few that is not afraid to speak his mind and stand up for what he feels is right. Even Tony caved in when The Gods of Nascar threatened him so we should all be supporting him on this. Nascar is slowly being turned into another Iroc series and we all saw how that turned out. It doesnt matter if you like Robby or not we must all support the innocent otherwise everyone will just be run over like a deer on the highway.

You have it backwards, sweety. Robbie can race anything and does not need Neckcar. Nascars run is over now that open wheel is back together. Sponsor’s, driver’s, tv all have a choice and will no longer be held hostage by Nascar.

whats with a nose. it doesn’t mean a thing. not gordon’s crew cheifs fault. a stock car is a car off the street not some thing that nasty car dreams up. the nose was stamped correct. how come dodge doesn’t get fined and lose points. the dodge co. made the nose for all dodges not just the robbie boy. [greatest driver sence r. petty] what are the nascar boys afair of, that robbie may get ahead in points of jjohnson and jeff gorden. that they have to take dodges mistakes out on anyone who may contends with hendick or gibbs or rcr. go robbie do the best for your company and the best of luck.

For your Robby fans out there funny story. Last year spring race Dega my brother a Marine LT joins us 2 weeks back from the sh!t We are at the race traveling from Front Runners I to the Jungle. We hit the gate and there is Robby in his Bad A$$ golf cart. So this dude Says Hey man can I have a Pic with you Robby says yes and many others jump in. My Brother says who is that?

We all laughed. Then this one cat a gate guard with a jacket with more patches than jacket gets pissed and says that’s Robby F()ckin Gordon Man! We all had a laugh and My brother calls every week end to find out how who’s that is doing. He may not be a legend but he is a star

  34. 34 Joseph Lee

Mr. Gordon is nuts if he thinks that anyone really cares! Bottom line, becuase he doesn’t have a car or team that is good enough to make a race on speed, he wants to whine about it thinking someone cares, and they don’t.

There are a lot of drivers that would love to have his spot in the NASCAR world. If he thinks he will get better treatment in the IRL, that won’t happen either.

Grow up Robby! (If that’s possible)

Isn’t Nascar open to anyone……foolish statement from a foolish fan.

Robby Gordon, in my opinion HAS always had a raw deal with Nascar. I don’t think that is ever going to change for the guy. I can say that I have seen him run in the Baja, and he’s got it there. As for running on paved tracks, with the almighty France family in control, he just isn’t going to go anywhere with them(nascar). As, for him going to IRL. Bad idea. why do you think those ddrivers are all coming to Nascar? That is just a dead series. I have been getting tickets given to me forever to go there. And then they upped the ante by giving me paddock passes. The only great things that I remember fron Indy cars races that happened, was that I literally was walked into from Mario Andretti, who was very nice I might add. And the kid who just won the Indy 500 a few years back when he was just running the lites way back. Oh lets not forget that Mario races through the pits area on a scooter, ready to run anyone over. Very funny to see. But the thing is… they cannot get the people to go anymore. Even my own boys don’t want to to those races. I just don’t think that Robby is going to have a “career” there unless he goes into the European racing leagues/series.

Like him or not, Robby has been successful at every level he’s competed at. I think guys like Robby and Tony are good for the sport. They are “old school”. I know the powers that be would love to see Robby go to the IRL. I just can’t believe they hammered him like they did. Good luck on the appeal Robby. You’ll need it!

  42. 42 strech

nascar makes no sense anymore. why only approve an avenger nose if your rule book says it has to be a charger nose??? what is the point in having a rule book if the rules stated in it cost your team 100 points and $100,000 not to mention suspend your crew cheif for 6 races? somebody please explain to me how that makes any sense.

    Which two…?

    Smoke & Jeff Gordon
    Mears & Menard
    Leffler & Khane
Schrader & who ever else has ever raced a Midget/Sprint/Modified….

You get rid of the people who have backgrounds in open wheel racing, and you end up with a few guys left on the track.

Now that I think about it, you’d be left with Jr, The Busch brothers, Waltrip, Jarret, & maybe Gilliland and Kvapil.

    NASCAR SUCKS anymore!!!!!
