Gordon and Johnson’s cars fail inspection, are parked for Friday

Nextel Cup Series points leader Jeff Gordon and defending series champion Jimmie Johnson, both of the Hendrick Motorsports stable, have failed inspection at Infineon Raceway.
The cars of neither Gordon, the defending race champion, nor Johnson will be allowed to practice or qualify Friday.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said both cars “failed the initial inspection … as a result of body modifications found to be outside NASCAR tolerances. The front fender [of both cars] was modified outside of NASCAR regulations. They did not meet the C2 template inspection.”
According to Poston, Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 5 and No. 25 cars, for Kyle Busch and Casey Mears, passed inspections.
Poston added, “both teams have an opportunity to repair and resubmit their cars” for inspection up to the start of practice Saturday. “Assuming they pass inspection, they can practice [Saturday] and start at the rear of the field [Sunday],” he said.
“It’s important to know this is a Car of Tomorrow penalty,” Poston said of the short-term severity of the sanction. “The inspection process and NASCAR’s response to Car of Tomorrow violations are going to be more severe.
“We’re going to keep this car in check. It’s important to know all cars in the field are starting out equal and have the ability to win the race.”
Poston said both teams’ crew chiefs, Steve Letarte on the No. 24 and Chad Knaus on the No. 48, would be allowed to supervise the repairs, and at this point, NASCAR had no plans to immediately confiscate the cars.
The decision on further penalties would be made next week, Poston said.

Horray
Flash back a few races ago… Just something to keep in mind.
“Dale Earnhardt Jr. was docked 100 points and crew chief Tony Eury Jr. was fined $100,000 and suspended six races after NASCAR discovered illegal brackets on the rear wing of the No. 8 COT Chevrolet last month at Darlington Raceway.”
HAHA!! finally !! the cheaters are revealed !!!
hey yall im waiting for “Nascarfan4life24″ response on the fact his driver cheats…pucker up those lips Mr. Hendrick cause its gonna take one hell of a mouth hug to get out of this one..cheating bastards….yeah ayeha i know jr got penalized to..but pt being they were outside the box so Hendricks should get the same penalty on BOTH teams…
heres a peice of history for u all reading this::
************”Nascarfan4life24 May 22nd, 2007 at 7:07 pm
Good choice D.E.I.!! There is no room for cheating! Just suck it up and deal with it!!! Move on and learn from your mistakes. I’m glad to see Nascar finally cracking down on Jr. He’s gotten away with too much for too long.”**************
that was posted regarding DEI Dropping their appeals…whats really funny bout this..is that JR has never gotten away with anything..he always gets penalized..so put that in ur pipe and smoke it
Amanda, aren’t you a Jr. fan? I guess I know how you felt when Jr. was ‘revealed.”
Haha!
$50 says nuthing happens lol
HAHA im with darrell! i cant wait to see his obnoxious response either! its about damn time they get caught, seems like they “slide” by too many times. so suck it up for you nascarfan4life24…. looks like your hero is a loser after all… not some GOD that you claim him to be!
As long as they repair it and get to race, Gordon will be fine. I know no one
has won from the back, but if anyone can do it, he can. And I’m sure it
won’t be the last time that a team fails inspection. It’s gonna happen
as long as there is NASCAR. Fact of life, get over it. Every team pushes
the envelope, but with this new car, it’s going to be nearly impossible
to get away with it. I’m glad about that, don’t get me wrong. But, it’s
still not gonna stop the teams from trying. Every team.
that anonymous person was prob NASCARFAN4LIFE24 hahaha he still runs his mouth bout JR when gordon cheats..just too ashamed to actually admit it..i second IAN but i raise the bet higher than $50…its JIMMIE and JEFF…nascar dont wanna intterupt them being on each others poles
Fine them both 100k bucks, 100 driver and owner points as well! NASCAR better stick with what they said they were going to do a long time ago…
come on nascarfan4life stop being a puss and enter ur name…we all know its u..THEY both should get teh same penalty..any team outside the box on the COT should get it..and i happen to think 100 pts will get peoples attention and they will stop TRYING TO HIT THE GRAY AREA..gordon still a whiny ass crybaby and always will be..just goes to show hes already setting a great example for his daughter..Daddy why did u lose these pts..u we cheated and got caught..
Darrell you’re the man! haha Not a big Jr. fan by any means but that’s funny shit! Go Kenseth!
Those last 2 anonymous one’s were me…
Gordon and Johnson are being penalized before they even took the track for practice. Their cars are messed up and Nascar is telling them to fix them before they can us it for their advantage. On the other hand Jr. got punished for having those brackets installed after inspection and I believe after qualifying. He used them for his advantage, Gordon and Johnson have not.
NASCAR is getting a bit ridiculous with the penalties. I could understand if it was on race day when they found the problem but isn’t the purpose of an inspection to let people know what they need to fix? And on TV a while ago they said it matched the template and that there was no rule about modifying “around” the template.
HA HA, that was the my very first thought, what is nascarfan4life24 going to say???????
Too funny.
Maybe the Anonymous above is him. (stating Gordon will be fine and all)
Anyway, I just don’t get it, why would they or anyone cheat, You are going to get caught. Kind of stinks knowing now that Jr is going here
This is not good, but I’d bet along with ian too, nothing will happen. One day though
they will make an example out of someone (Kind of like they did when Jr “Swore” and he got penalized)
I just wouldn’t want to be caught that day.
Jimmie and Jeff are not cheaters people face it there just better than your drivers.
haha wether you a Stewart Newman or a Kenseth fan there just better. the races prove it.
There is not proof that the 8 team installed those brackets at anytime other than before the race weekend began. Unlike this incident, Junior’s brackets fit all the templates, a sharp eye just happened to catch them later on. Whether this situation is an honest mistake or not, 100 points, 100 grand. That’s what it should be. The precedent has been set.
Jimmie may not be a cheater but there is no way anyone on this planet can say Chad Knaus isn’t.
I don’t understand why they fine the driver. It’s not the driver that works on the car so therefore it shouldn’t be his fault.
Gordon and Johnson didn’t qualify with their illegal car. However Jr. did qualified with an illegal car if im not mistaken. Every driver on every team pushes the limits of their cars. But that is why they have prerace/qualifying/practice inspections. Its when you change your car after those inspections to benefit you is when you get busted points and money. And its not like they are not getting penalized. They have to start at the back with very little practice with a newish car on a road course.
Hey and now that Gordon got “caught” are all you retarded redneck Jr. and Stewart fans going to stop bitching about NASCAR bending the rules in Hendrick’s favor…….Probably not right. You all need some excuse on why your driver sucks so bad.
well BEN H! seen how my redneck Jr is going to hendrick unfortunatly i will support that team. i dont think they bend the rules for hendrick all the time, sometimes it seems that way. gordon in general is the just whiniest driver ive ever heard! his lil model wont know which one is hungry in the middle of the night, the baby or jeffrey… im sure they sound alike with that high pitched whiny twang he has!
I must disagree, Tony Stewart is the whiniest driver. He’s the one that left without an interview to go cry after he lost a race to Jeff Gordon.
Okay Nascar you know what to do. This is a minimum of 100 driver points docked each driver, a $100,000 fine for each team and crew chiefs suspended for 6 races for each team. And given Chad Knaus’ shady history in the sport he maybe should get 8-10 races off, he just doesn’t learn. This is what was done to Jr and it needs to be done to both of these guys. Start gaining some respect back now Nascar.
ok so he sucks too… that doesn’t make Gordon any less of a whiny butt. he has never taken the fall for anything. its always someone else’s fault. you guys have fun duking it out, as long as we all know in the end that gordon sucks and JR is the best!!!
(i know we all know that already, i just love to get a rise outta these gordon fans, i mean, they dont have a problem dishing it out themselves do they?)
“We’re going to keep this car in check. It’s important to know all
cars in the field are starting out equal and have the ability to
win the race.” Newsflash: Their
teams just got caught cheating. Now, if you had meant they
themselves are not cheaters, I’d be inclined to agree, they’re just
the Sunday afternoon mascot. But, I doubt you’re intelligent enough
to have meant it that way.
Atrum Everto-You make a good point. I always figured it’s to line their
pockets under the fake premise of “It’ll encourage the drivers to keep
a sharper eye on their teams”.
I thought one of the reasons they built the COT is to curb Chad’s habits. You’re right, he doesn’t learn.
Alright so it cut out like three quarters of my post. Odd. Oh well,
this is gonna turn into another Jr/Gordon/Johnson debate anyway lol.
Also, it was NASCAR’s mistake for letting Junior qualify and practice because the part fit the templates and no one noticed until later.
So why exactly is Jr. the best? Does he have a championship trophy? OMG he don’t. He’s just a nobody that rode daddy’s little coat tails to greatness.
he loves what he does, hes down to earth and cares for his fans. gordon on the other hand is a whiny ass whimp and cheats his way to the top. its funny how when its convenient for gordon all of a sudden there is a caution for debris… or he gets away with adjustments… finally he is caught!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
uh…fine?
i guess i don’t know the “rules” well enough to know whether or not 24 x 2 = this doesn’t apply to you?
In my opinion the only good thing I’ve seen Jr. do is go to Hendrick. That means all the DEI stuff we have is worth more money on eBay. WOOT
Goodie it’s about time. Now let’s see what kind of fines are handed down.
If you remember right all 3 Everham cars went to Daytona with Illeagle front end sheet metal and had to repair them before they could practice or Qualify. There was points taken away and money fined against all teamsover it . This should not be any diffrent and sence it is with the COT it should be the normal 100 points and $100,000 fine
AS for Jr’s wing brackets, they were the same ones that were on the car all weekend, they fit all the timplates and would not have given him a advantage they were just not made by a nascar apprived manufacturer, nascar had never tested the supports from that manufacrurer so for safty reasons they were not approved, from what I have read the manufacturer has sence sent nascar several sets to test and hopefully for them approve. The team admitted the mistake took the penilitys and are going on with there lifes so all you JR. bashers should get a life and let it rest AS for Atrum Everto’s coment Jr has 2 count them 2 Busch championships ans 17 NNC winns that is better than a lot of other drivers can say and with some good equipment under him the nextel cup will be his in the neer future!!!!
Drew….How does cheating prove you’re a better driver???
I think all you Jeff haters are a joke -no matter how much you do not like him -you need to
recognize that he is one of the greatest drivers of ALL TIME .Yes his car didn’t pass
you think he really wanted it that way -give me a break .in alot of your comments i see
your all just jealous of his greatness .
JR/ Gordon/JJ debate?
hmmmmmmm…nada.
Gordon=multi-time champ
JJ=defending champ
JR=most popular driver-only because he is Southern and most Nascar fans are also Southern…and of course he’s Dale Sr. son
This is a message to the moderater of this site. Would it be possible for you to find out what exactly happened with Jr’s car when he got penalized a few weeks ago and Gordon and Johnson with this newest finding. Maybe it will shut eveyone up for once if they had all the right facts. I trust that what you find is more accurate than what i’ve heard from everyone on here recently.
Jr’s car had a part on it that was used on the cot. Gordon and Johnson did things to there car that was never on the cot. Should the be penalized yes!!!! Will they get as hard of a penalty as Jr? I really do not think so!!! Make nascar fair instead of pickin and choosin who is punished
I don’t care who it is. If they are a popular driver or not. Nascar should have it in writing that if someone got caught cheating that they would get some kind of fine weather it was suspension or a huge $ amount. Stick with something and follow threw with it. I think Nascar just likes the drama.
What we have is Cheaters or Loosers go figure!!!!!!!!!
every team pushes the rules to the limit so i don’t consider what they did or jr did “cheating” just pushed the envolpe to far but they should be fined 100 points and crew chiefs gone for 6 weeks nascar this is your chance to be consistant
The No. 8 Chevy was found to have illegal brackets used to mount the rear wing on the Nextel Cup Series’ new Car of Tomorrow, an infraction series director John Darby said could result in the first COT penalty. Officials forced the team to remove the brackets, then reattach the wing with a proper set.
“We have specific blueprints for all the parts on the car,” Darby said. “[Series officials] are a little sensitive to those parameters.” Asked if doctoring the rear wing on the COT is a substantial no-no, Darby responded, “Yes.” The infraction will not affect Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s starting position for Saturday’s rain-delayed Dodge Avenger 500, Darby said. Darby said he plans to speak with No. 8 crew chief Tony Eury Jr. further next week.
Gordon’s and Johnson’s cars front fender didn’t match the template. Apparently the tolerances are much tighter than the standard car.
I can see the meetings later on this week. “Now jeffie, jim-jim, ricky-poo, we just have to
curb these rule breakings. Next time, we may just have to slap you on the wrist. Chadikins,
I’m sorry that you just keep getting caught. We’ll take care of those guys that caught you
right away, it won’t happen again”.
Sickening, huh?
Fine them just like everyone else is my opinion…. if it was anyone else it would happen, no matter when it was found, and if they aren’t getting fined, I say they don’t race at all that race. But its Jimmie and Jeffy so it will be swept under the rug and not a thing will come of it.
My question is what does Hendricks have on the NASCAR top people?
If Jr wanted to ride on his dad’s coattails”Atrum” he would have joined RCR and drove the number 3. He did not he chose to make his own career choice. So get it right!!! Gordon never gets into trouble for his stupid shit he does. I can say johnson has gotten in to trouble for his screw ups. I do not care for either of them and I hope they are delt with correctly. I really hope Gordon gets nailed to the wall. He will enjoy it though
Atrum Everto you sound like Nascarfan4life24. does everyone really think he will have to guts to comment on this one with that name. I am waiting to see why the penalties are gonna be.. I agree they should be the same as Jrs. and no i am not a Jr fan, definitely not a jeff or jimmie fan. I think they are going to get away with it. or just a small penalty.
The Bad Boys are going down on this one. NASCAR is going to make a strong statement about cheating involving their precious little nasty car.
Expect SEVERE penalties and strong punishment.
Can’t wait to hear.
If the NASCAR lets the “Naughty Boys” of easily, fans will really question the credibility of the sport.
But then…..that’s nothing new, is it /
I concur w/GKirb: “If you remember right all 3 Everham cars went to Daytona with illegal front end sheet metal and had to repair them before they could practice or qualify. There was points taken away and money fined against all teamsover it . This should not be any diffrent and since it is with the COT it should be the normal 100 points and $100,000 fine.” Confiscate their cars (24 & 48) in the very least. I geuss that’s the benefit of being in the “good ‘ole boys club”.
NASCAR clearly stated all winter long that anyone caught tampering with the COT will be punished. They got the #8 car, now they have to impose a more severe punishment to the HMS teams. They rules have to work for everyone or they don’t work at all.
Shannon…GIVE ME A BREAK!!! His GREATNESS???? That’s FUNNY
blah blah blah.
it isn’t about favourites (as far as i’m concerned). it’s about consistency.
heck, dale sr. and bill france jr. were close friends but when sr. broke the rules he took the penalty. as far as i’m concerned if a driver can push his car to the limits including breaking rules without getting caught…fun! fun! fun!
see i no it would never happen but wut should have happened was them(the #24 and 48 teams)should have been sent home i mean you got like 5 or 6 other teams that did come ready and wherent trying to cheat and you send them home when there cars are fine but keep the ones who are trying to cheat???
lol@ shannon.. immature comments.. “greatness”.. yes, I am TERRIFIED of the jesus powers of the almighty gordon. Give me a freakin break.
Also.. do you realize who will be leading the chase if Gordy is docked points..?
DENNY.FREAKIN.HAMLIN.
he is so awesome
FINE BOTH OF THEM!! DAMN CHEATERS, NASCAR HAS NO ROOM FOR CHEATERS!!
You know what pisses me off, people calling Gordon and Johnson cheaters. Think about this… THIER NOT THE ONES WHO BUILD THE CARS!
When Jr. got that rear wing infraction, HE wasn’t the cheater, it was the engineers.
So Jr. Fans…if you think Hendricks team cheats, don’t you worry about Jr’s being on that team next year?
If Nascar has no room for cheaters then they won’t have any cars out there racing.
They all cheat, if they get caught they should get the penalty.
I am a huge Jeff Gordon fan, his team got caught and should have the same penalty as Jr.
I want to know why Jr. wasn’t the one cheating when his team got caught but with Jeff and Jimmie it’s them. It’s the crew chief not the drivers.
I am sure that was not the first time Jr.’s team has cheated, so don’t try saying that it was. If you really think that then you are very naive!!!
this whole thing is nothin but a mistake. everytime i read this site all i can do is sit back and LMAO at some of you. because some of you act like ur 5 years old. who care what happen today it is something that the team did not the drivers. and i feel so bad for both Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson cause they could not even go on the track today and from what i heard they might not be able too go out tomorrow so here we are we got 2 drivers that might not even make it out on the track and it sucks. im blamming this one of CHAD and STEVE they should have made sure these cars where right and ready too go. and i can not see why you people sitting here calling Jimmie and Jeff cheaters it is not them it is there team and crew chiefs. i wanna know if it is the same car they both raced last week if so something wrong about this whole thing.SO IM HERE TOO SAY SOME OF YOU NEED TOO REALLY GROW UP
I would like to say that dale jr’s popularity has some what to do with his last name, but also the ability of his character to return to a race track his had father died. Let’s not forget the first race after 9/11 was won by jr. and on the victory lap held up the american flag to help boost morale for everybody that watched nascar after one of our nation’s most darkest days. It seems to me that jr. is popular because no one exhibits the strength that he shoulders week in and week out! Jeff and jimmie both can suck a big one cuz they never had that much on their shoulders while driving!
Why doesn’t everyone just wait and see what NASCAR does to penalize them before making ASSumptions about it. Don’t blame Jimmie and Jeff for their crews not making sure the car is perfect. Lots of cars fail inspection, they aren’t the first ones. It happens. Its not necessarily cheating, if you think all cars that fail inspection are cheating, then Jr’s team was cheating when they were penalized right? I guess thats different because its the almighty JR. LOL It took NASCAR more than just a few days to figure out Jr’s penalty, so I’m sure they will take some time with theirs too. And it won’t be that bad since even if they get docked 100 points each, Jeff will still be in the lead, and Jimmie will only lose one spot in the standings. Its early in the season, so its not that bad of an impact. And Jimmie had already shown that he can win with or without Chad being there, so I don’t think that will impact him either. Mistakes happen, and they didn’t get to qualify, and will probably have to start in the back and Jimmie isn’t great at road coarses anyway, so I didn’t expect him to win although it would have been nice to see. Oh well, its not the first time anyone has failed inspection and it won’t be the last. Get over it. If people complained this much about everyone who failed a drug test in other sports and still got to play there would be no players to watch.. lmao
I think that the call was unfair because jr was able keep his spot were he was supposed to start the race and they cant even qualify for the race that just doesnt make since to me…and the penalty shouldnt be more than what jrs was because it was dealing with same effect ( trying to change the areo dynamics of the car) so if it is more that is a unfair call a the nascars part.
I don’t think the penalty should be the same for an infraction caught and fixed BEFORE the race, as one found AFTER the race has been run. They should be given the chance to get it fixed before the race, and if so, no harm done. Why is everyone so quick to punish a mistake? Why would these crew chiefs knowingly allow “illegal” set ups, knowing there will be an inspection, that there will be penalties? There are human beings working on these cars, and human beings are not perfect. There will be mistakes. Unless you actually run the race with an illegal set up, you should not be penalized. Just my opinion.
amanda i just like the way u hate jeff. well its not really cheating because its before the race and not after. what would be funnier is that jeff comes from the back of the pack gets a decent finish, and denny hamin cries AGAIN
o yeah amanda dont hate aprieciate the fact that jeff is better than ur driver CRYBABY HAMLIN BOOHOO
yeh right sal and yehhh it is cheating befor or after the race it doesnt matter and i hope he makes it through the feild till the last lap and hopfully harvick spins him out right befor the finish line like at the glen lmfao
some of you are a joke I am a chevy fan and yes I think everything should be the same
for everyone but it never is I don’t know how many times I have watch the tv or been to
a race and seen something I thought was not right .I just don’t understand why some of you
make it about Jeffy and Jimmie and Dale Jr. it’s a bigger thing then that they need to work
on keeping it all the same .and for you guys that think it’s a joke about Jeffy not being
great your a dumb *** .I don’t think you would know what was great if it hit ya in the head .
At this moment on the track he is the best -I’m saying this because the books show it in all
the # .I don’t care if you do not like him and I have talked with him a couple of times
and he is a really nice guy .Hell I have talked with a lot of drivers and most are really
kind .anyway -I think we all just want to see everyone treated the same RIGHT no matter
who you are god knows I’ve seen Jr. get away with things to I didn’t think was right but I
didn’t tear him down for it .there all go drivers and if they weren’t they would not be out there
and they all have good teams .but yes everyone does a little something something -it just doesn’t work all the time
.
Just so ya’ll know, I was a Dale Earnhardt JUNIOR fan before I was a Dale Sr. fan. It wasn’t the other way around.
When I first started watching NASCAR, I was a Jeff Gordon fan, but week in and week out, I got tired of hearing him complain and blame everyone else for stuff that he did. I cannot stand any driver who does not have the courage to stand up and admit that they were at fault. Greg Biffle, Tony Stewart, Jimmy Spencer, Jeff Green, Robby Gordon, and some others all fit into that category.
When Jimmie Johnson came onto the scene, I was iffy about him. In a way I liked him and thought that he had talent, but he also reminded me a little too much of Jeff Gordon’s attitude. Ever since the Talledega race last year, I have had a lot of respect for Johnson.
The only problem that I have with Hendrick Motorsports is that they are winning too much this year. NASCAR is not for just one team to dominate. It makes the races boring, and I begin to lose interest in the sport that I am practically obsessed with. I like a mixture of teams competing for the win at the end of the race. I like to see an underdog come out and win the race, like Martin Truex Jr and Casey Mears did a few weeks ago.
Even though I am a Dale jr fan, I still like seeing other drivers win. I’ve been a fan of Jr’s since he first started in the Busch Series, and I followed him up to the Cup Series. I became a Sr fan after
