Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have opted to skip the car of tomorrow test Monday and Tuesday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
The pair of Hendrick Motorsports teams are in the heat of the championship battle, with Gordon carrying a 53-point lead over Johnson entering today’s Pep Boys Auto 500. The teams opted to spend the time preparing for the upcoming NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway and the other two remaining Cup races.
The 2008 Hendrick teams of Casey Mears and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are participating in the test.
- Hendrick already forced into catch-up mode
- McMurray and Gordon Test Tires for 2 Days at Atlanta
- Stewart to test at Daytona
- McMurray and Gordon Complete Goodyear Tire Test at Atlanta Motor Speedway
- Gordon nabs Atlanta pole

I don’t blame them. They won about half of the races this year. I think they’re ready for 2008.
Good for them - concentrate on the championship
They have this COT figured out! It is going to be a
circus with the stands being opened to the fans.. Let’s
see how the Jr Nation responds to Jr in a HMS car!!
Show offs!!!!
A driver cant stand to be 2nd even in popularity
smart move, why risk going out and having a crash that could possibly cause an injury and hinder their championship hopes?
