Gordon accuses Roush Fenway of cheating on Edward’s car

Four-time Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon would like NASCAR to look into the way Roush Fenway Racing is adjusting the rear housing on Carl Edwards’ car to create a competitive advantage.
Edwards has won three times on 1.5-mile tracks this season and was in position to win a fourth before having late engine problems.
Many in the garage said during testing at Lowe’s Motor Speedway earlier this week that the yaw created — Edwards’ car appears to be going sideways on the straightaway, creating more side force heading into the turns — by turning the rear housing to the right gives Edwards a competitive advantage.
” … NASCAR knows it’s happening,” Gordon said on Friday at Darlington Raceway. “They are the ones that see the cars come through inspection. They see it. When cars can’t even get on the scales because they’re running sideways, it’s something they need to address.”
Series director John Darby said there are no plans to further police the rear housing adjustment, noting NASCAR already has a rule restricting more than a quarter-inch change plus or minus.
He added that Hendrick Motorsports, for which Gordon drives, was the first to experiment with the rear-housing adjustment on the new car and that Edwards’ No. 99 team was one of the last.
“They [complain] when we’ve got too many rules and then they want us to create more,” Darby said of teams in general. “The process is so simple. There are limits on how far they can go.”
Gordon admitted teams started finding ways to create more yaw last season, but added, “It’s been taken to a whole other level.”
“I believe it’s something [NASCAR] didn’t expect,” he said.
Almost every team has tried to duplicate what Edwards has, but not every driver can handle it.
“It makes the cars drive so terrible that it doesn’t really help us in any way that we really need it,” Gordon said.
Edwards has declined to comment on what his team is doing to create yaw. He was coy about it Friday.
“Yeah, that’s exactly what makes my car so fast,” he said with a touch of sarcasm. “In fact, when we thought about taking a couple of weekends off, we were gonna go get a monkey to drive the car because it’s real easy and that’s the only reason we’re winning.
“So they should just focus on that and not worry about anything else.”

Our Modified is kinda like that, but we have it set up like that to help us turn better because the racing groove on the track is almost a perfect circle.
But unless NASCAR has a rule that says the car is supposed to have perfect tracking, then there is nothing illegal about the car.
I really haven’t since that on Edward’s car yet, however I have noticed during the qualifying show there are a couple more cars that do look like they are going sideways down the straightaway include the #12 Ryan Newman, I shouldn’t be able to read a little of Altellgoing down the staightaway.
I will check that out Saturday night when the they run off going in turn 1, the TV cameras have a shoot of it.
waaaaaa! cry me a river. as if gordon never won because hendrick had figured something out other teams had not. he doesn’t like losing very much does he?
yeah but i think NASCAR needs to address this unfair advantage by the Roush Fenway camp. if they have found something that the NASCAR R&D dept. have overlooked then it should not be allowed to happen.
They have to adjust and tweak this new car somehow. I thought they were pretty limited as it was. So where exactly do you draw the line, and how much further can NASCAR possibly step in?

Howie how do you know that the NASCAR R&D dept don’t know about it?
It’s something that just about all oval track cars take advantage of, you mess with the off-set or the twisting of the rear-end to (depending on the track/surface/class) either create more downforce (as in this case) or help the car rotate through the turns better (as in our case)
Something I think maybe the teams should look at to play with (unless it says they can’t in the rule books) is the wing and if it has to be level across its surface (from left to right), or can they maybe have the left side of the wing higher by 2 degrees to create more downforce.
everyone stop crying….. nothing ever makes people satisfied in this sport. I love what Nascar is doing and if they see nothing wrong go with it…. Mr crybaby Gordon you can do the same with your car and from what you said you did and couldnt drive it so oh well whats the big deal. Carl has more talent with his car setup like that and hes not cheating so shut up and race. God I love Nascar but I hate how some drivers just cry cry cry me a river when its not going there way. Be men and swallow your losing streak pill and shut the f up already. Im so happy to see Gorden and Johnson struggle…. and JR keep taking the Hendrick spotlight away from those 2 no personality cry babies. Did Jr cry last week no he took it like a man as you should do Gordon! What a joke
cry babe gorden call also move his rear end outa nascar if he doesn’t like the why things are done. it is only thing left that owners can do to the bodies of their hot rods. every thing else is mandated by templates.

the typical “jeffs a crybaby bash krew” well u guys can cry me a river and ill give u a nice slice of american cheese with that fine wine. check your facts jeff does not cry over stuff. opinion is the key people dur dur dur
i dont get it why people automatically accuse jeff of crying evrytime he’s interviewed…ive seen bigger crybabys
To all those saying how Jeff Gordon is crying about it…
I think its because he is the only one willing to stand up and say something about it..
I mean, this may be a far reached comparison
but when you start tweaking and twisting cars and components for maximum
speed, you jeapordize the safety of the driver…
Just look at the death of Ayrton Senna in 1994 if you needed an example
jEFF IS NOT CRYING HE IS JUST DOING THIS FOR THE BETTER OF THE RACERCAR.
EVER NOTICE HOW THEY ALWAYS GO TO JEFF FOR A STRAIGHT ANSWER, HE HAS
BEEN AROUND LONG ENOUGH TAHT HE KNOWS MRE THAN THE AVERAGE PERSON.
HE HAS THE GUTS TO SPEAK UP WHEN THE OTHERS JUST CRY CRY CRY.
YOU GO JEFF .
116 laps to go and carl edwards car looks like a snake comming down the straightaway. Gibbs cars as well. I think Jeff has a point.
