Tony StewartIn case there was any question about it, Tony Stewart likely won’t be invited back to a Goodyear tire test anytime soon.

But officials say that isn’t a result of his vocal criticism of the company for the tire it brought last week to Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stewart, who said after last Sunday’s race that he would dismount any cars he had at home with Goodyears and questioned the integrity of the company because it had left other racing series, did a Goodyear tire test at Las Vegas last December and Goodyear officials now say they were not happy with him.

“Tony was invited to the Las Vegas tire test in December because he was very vocal about his displeasure with the Las Vegas race track and our tire recommendation previously,” Greg Stucker, Goodyear director of race tire sales, said Friday morning at Bristol Motor Speedway. “We said, ‘Hey, we understand that so we want you to be involved in this test.’

“He was there, but I would say he probably really wasn’t involved. He wasn’t into it … If he’s not going to be more constructive than he has been recently or was at that test, no, he won’t get another test. We look for people that want to be engaged that provide us with feedback, to be there to do what we need.”

Stewart was joined by Jeff Burton, Kasey Kahne and Matt Kenseth at the test.

“Tony made it very clear that he would have [rather] been someplace else and he really wasn’t very cooperative as far as giving us feedback,” Stucker said.

The comments were made just prior to Cup practice started Friday. Stewart is scheduled to speak with the media this afternoon.

tony might be right in all this…but he need to shut his mouth now. this is not going to help him or his team on any way and joe gibbs has got to be pissed!

Does this remind anybody else of the monkey-slapping scene from Night at the Museum?

this is just plain childish on both parts and its getting old…tires sucked plain as day we know that..BUT like ive said time and time again it was the first time a RACE was ran at Atlanta with this new car…Goodyear should be given some credit for bringing a durable tire….although the racing sucked…im sure the next go around will be significantly better…GIVE IT A BREAK…

no i do not claim to be an EXPERT as some dude said….but 90% of people cant pass a test without notes and studying…therefore Goodyear has notes to study from now so shut up about it…

But Goodyear being childing and not inviting Toyota is wrong….then they plainly say Smoke wont be invited to any other tire tests anytime soon..yet they says its “not” becuase of his comments…lying sack of crap….GROW UP

That’s It If I Cant Play In Your Sandbox I am Taking My Toys and Going Home! LMAO! This is turning into a playground war. I think they should both be put in time out.

Darrell you make a good point about the taking notes and it was their first time. Also Tony has some good point’s.

I don’t know call me crazy but if they were all to go behind closed doors and hash this thing out like men. They might come out with something and all have a Good Year(pun intended) LMAO.

Right on Darrell… I wish Goodyear would just shut the heck up about it. It’s fine that they released a statement, but it was completely unnecessary and childish for them to comment again almost a week later. Whether or not they thought he was cooperative in a tire test last year is neither here nor there. They said they THOUGHT he was PROBABLY not really involved, so who are they to say whether he was or not? They admitted they were speculating on his cooperation

There are two sides to every story, so you know we’ll get Tony’s side of it this weekend and this thing will continue to escalate.

Well if the media would stop digging for a story that doesn’t need to be public……..

If what they said about Tony at that test is right, then don’t bring him back. Tony doesn’t seem like the kind of person that would be good/interested in testing anyway.

As for Goodyear and Tony Stewart, that relationship is done,

I find it interesting that Goodyear invited all four manufacturers to there December tire test at Atlanta which included Tony Stewart, Jeff Burton, Kasey Kahne and Matt Kenseth, however, where was that same fairness at this past Monday’s Goodyear tire test at darlington when goodyear only invited three teams - Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman and I think Greg Biffle, but none for Toyota.

    I’m just saying…

However after all of that, I really do like the fact that Tony did speck out about this problem, but he really shouldn’t have said “he would dismount any cars he had at home with Goodyears and questioned the integrity of the company because it had left other racing series…”

Although the comment doesn’t mean much because Tony’s Lambo and Hearse don’t run Goodyear tires anyway, the shop in NY don’t have Goodyear’s.

GOOD LUCK TO GOODYEAR, THERE GOING TO NEED IT, FANS JUST WANT TO SEE GOOD RACING AND SO DO THE DRIVERS.

  9. 9 dirtcar38

I think that they both need 2 shut the hell up. And i also think nascar needs too let any racer drive with goodyears are hoosiers are what ever, what is it gonna hurt 2 let them have a chose? We run hoosier on are cars and some weekends we run goodyear i havent felt a major diffrence in them both.

Goodyear’s opinion about Tony’s interest in the tire tests is irrelevant. When will the every hit this issue head on and tell us what’s being done to improve the tire performance?

Like Darrel said this is really getting childish and old quick. Tony is just one man and should get a little bit of a break, but Goodyear is an entire corporation and they’re handling this situation horribly.

The more Goodyear talks the worse it becomes.

I’m pretty sure that JGR was not legally allowed to use Toyota until January 1, 2008. Which would mean he was still in a Chevy during that test.

Whether or not the media is blowing this up (they are), I
think Goodyear should be a little more grown up and
professional and stop trying to have the last say against
Stewart. It’s only making things worse.

and it gonna get worse before it gets better

  14. 14 Kandi

so why are they NOW bringing this up. if it happened in Dec. then why not bring it up back then? its becuz of what tony said last week. which is fine cuz im sure tony has better things to do…like get his back waxed! lol! i luv him! but seriously, goodyear needs to just man up and say their tires sucked, and they are gonna fix it.

Goodyear’s and recaps are OK if thats all you can afford but if you step up a little you will see a whole new world of really great tires that preform much better on the road or the dirt.

  22. 22 Tony-a

Tony will not lose sleep if they don’t invite him to a test.

Gordon is already being vocal about the tire they brought to Bristol, but I’m sure no one will
criticize him for making any negative remarks.

And its the same tire they brought last year to the August race, and Tony likes the tire… Go figure…. Jeffery is just making an excuse encase he has another week of poor performance…. l0l

  24. 24 JAG

Gordon is a (I)y, so is overeating Stewart, maybe if Stewart lost some @ss the tire might be ok.
