Goodyear runs new tire codes at California

Teams in all three NASCAR series will be running the same tire codes at California Speedway this weekend, though the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series tires will be branded “Goodyear Eagle,” while those for the Craftsman Truck Series will be branded “Goodyear Wrangler” . . . this is the first time that Goodyear has brought either of these two tire codes to the race track . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at California . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire. The estimated Sprint Cup pit window is every 40-44 laps, based on fuel mileage.

I never understood why they only run the inner liner at the bigger tracks. I mean I know the speeds are higher and the distance to get back to the pit is possibly longer (depending on where your tie blows), but an inner liner at the smaller tracks will still help a car when it blows a tire.
The inner line at the large tracks are probly jsut for the purpose of keep a tire from completly blowing out at highspeeds. Although i do like Fisha695 idea or suggestion to run the inner linners at both large and short tracks.
I agree. If it’s in the name of safety, why not?
