GM teams concerned about Gibbs likely move to Toyota

Two of the top three owners in Chevrolet expect Joe Gibbs Racing to move to Toyota in 2008. “I’d say they’re gone,” said Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick, who has agreed to a five-year deal with General Motors.
Richard Childress Racing owner Richard Childress said there are enough signs to believe that JGR will make the jump, which he says will take Toyota to another level.
“It’s pretty well written in stone,” he said on Sunday at Watkins Glen International.
Childress is so convinced JGR will bolt that he questions whether the organization should be included in Thursday’s key partners’ meeting at GM’s headquarters in Detroit.
“No, I wouldn’t feel comfortable with them there,” he said. “If the [other Chevrolet] teams have a feeling they’re going to be there, we’re not going to discuss openly with them in a room things we normally would discuss openly.
“You’re sitting there working on stuff for next year and you don’t want them to take that and help out the competition.”

Yeah it will, if it aint broke dont fix it, they have 2 out of 3 cars in the chase, matter of fact in the top 5, winning again sunday, going to a Toyota would be crazy, but w/e
you said it right david!
yeah I agree, it’s a stupid move and it’s all about $$.. I thought Gibbs was smarter than that.
Greedy Gibbs…
Look folks, I don’t think many of you can remember a movie for a dime, a pop for a nickle, and candy bars also for a nickle. Milk was 60 cents a gallon, McDonald’s burger’s were 25 cents, and I remember gas war’s at 18 to 25 cents a gallon and beer was 10 cents a glass or 25 cents a bottle. And I am just 63, been a NASCAR fan since Christ was a corporal, was in the United States military for 34 years and today am a grandpa of 5. Yes, Toyota is assembled here, but it is cheaper to assembly cars here than ship them whole, void space etc. The prices paid for cars reflects the cost of supporting football teams, T.V. networks, and yes, NASCAR. Look at the cost of a 30 second ad for the Super Bowl, you pay for it. Yes it is advertising money, but they get it from you. You pay for the tickets, for the upgrades to the stadiums, and race tracks, or did you not notice the increase in prices, or restrictions on items you can take into, but not out of the sports arena’s. Yes, the France family organized the NASCAR series, and has made a lot of money doing it. Business. Years ago, people wanted to make a living, today, they want to be billionare’s, with your hard earned money. You chose to spend it, however way you want. $100.00 bluejeans or $20.00 bluejeans. $50,000 trucks or $25,000 trucks. You place the value on all things. JR. , is only going to do what make’s the most money for JR. The same with all the other’s. You show me a driver who will race for $1,000 a week, and I’ll show you someone who is 16 years old. They all do it for the MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. Nothing else. He who pays the most, will get the best, of everything. JR. says he likes Bud beer, but if COOR’s offered him $2,000,000 to do a commerical, now that he is out of the Bud contract, HE WOULD DO IT! It’s all about MONEY. Burton Smith, it’s all about money. HE closed track’s that started NASCAR, just to build others for the sole purpose to make more MONEY… Do I like the current NASCAR venue, NO. But I make a choice to watch. I, like Tony, think that NASCAR is rigging races so that certain drivers win, those who are young, high profile, and not married, or married in some cases, but were not when they came on the scene. You just look at the last time a old cogger won, they cheated Mark Martin out of a win at Daytona, just so a younger driver could win. They should have thrown the yellow when the wreck started, as they have in the past. You think the older drivers don’t see this? Wrong. These driver’s are staying in the “SPORT” until they are no longer wanted, “GOOD MONEY” for them. Where else can they (all of them, not just a chosen few) make that kind of money each week for driving around a track for four hours or so. It is YOU, the FAN, who pays the bill. You pay the sponser in higher prices for their products, higher prices for tickets, so Burton Smith can vacation in Paris or where ever and fly in HIS private JET, higher motel prices since they raise the prices on race weekends, and I could go on. IF YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY, THEN DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SPORT OR THOSE WHO PARTICIPATE TO MAKE MONEY! Oh yes, and by the way, I read alll 158 response’s to the JGR story. I am ashamed to say that this is an example of the American Education system. Folk’s, they make dictionary’s, use them, English is an easy langauge to learn and write, TRY JAPANESE, I’m afraid most of you would have been shot by them if they had won, because you just don’t care what profile you present to the public. I will say this though, I am not please with the current status NASCAR is presenting, certain people win at any cost, look at the Busch race last Sat., I rest my case, and again agree with Tony, even if I don’t like him as a driver, my choice, I can still agree with him. My desire to partake of NASCAR events has diminished this last two years, and will be less next year when the cookie cutter car is raced full time. Why didn’t NASCAR just pick a manufacture, Chevy, Ford, Dodge or even Toyota and say, EVERYONE will drive this make. It would have be very simple, and they would have made more money because the MANUFACTURE would have had to pay up BIG BUCKS for the rights..
I’m done, but just remember, IT IS YOU THE PUBLIC WHO CONTROLS THE OUTCOME. IF YOU WISH TO SUPPORT NASCAR, THEN DO NOT COMPLAIN, OTHERWISE, DON’T SUPPORT IT AND GUESS WHAT, WHEN THEIR POCKET BOOKS START TO SHOW IT, “THEY” WILL CHANGE IT TO GET “YOUR” MONEY….
Wow!! That was very long winded, but very well said! A lot of NASCAR fans now-days are just young, meat head, red necks who really know nothing about what it’s “REALLY” about and what is really happening!
Anyways… I agree with everything that Jerry said above me!
Much respect!
Didnt they just do an article saying that there is a thing in Tony Stewarts contract that he can’t drive for any other manufacture other then Cheverlet?
toyota only wants Gibbs because they have the best engine research and developer in the garage
Christ, what a rant! These blogs should have a word count maximum. Blah, blah, blah….go have beer and chill out.
I agree with you to a certain extent there, Jerry, but you completely lost me on NASCAR cheating Mark out of winning Daytona. As long as you’ve been around I’m sure you remember when NASCAR raced back to the line when a yellow flag was flown. NASCAR just happened to not throw the flag that night so they could get the same result as the old days. It had nothing to do with the age of the driver. Wishing for cautions is asinine.
Mark had his foot on the gas and Harvick had his foot on the gas. Harvick beat him to the line. I don’t care what was going on behind them or what other flimsy cautions NASCAR has called in similar situations. I think NASCAR made the right call that night.
Also, I honestly believe that Junior’s move to Hendrick is about winning races and a choice not to support Theresa further for obvious reasons. It just so happens that a lot of money is going to come along with every decision Junior has made since he left DEI.
remember when roush said be afraid of toyota ??????? well the time has come
Axel, thanks, and also #1 Smoke Fan. By the way, that is my name, given by my MOTHER, and damn proud of it, that’s why I used it. Yes, I remember racing to the line during a yellow, but that rule was not in force at the beginning of the year, the reason for the statement about Mark being cheated out of a win. Look how many times they have to now go back to the scoring loop to find out who was where! Anyway, thanks for reading my blah, blah, blah. And yes, Jr, is getting a big payday for his choices. And even though I am a died in the wool #43 fan, from the old days, again my choice, I did not like some of SR’s actions, nor do I like some of Jeff’s (Gordon) action’s nor Tony’s, the reason for driver favorites. They all have their +’s and -’s, they get paid to ENTERTAIN
Sorry for the mistake, I hit a wrong key…. Shoot me, put me out of my misery…. Ha Ha Ha. But to continue, ” the crowd, after all, that is where ALL the money comes from. Thanks folks and I will continue to read and when I think right, will post an answer. After all, we, the fan’s, because of THOSE WHO SERVE AND FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM, and only the true REDNECK, will appreciate their service, gives us that right. May GOD bless each and every one of them. And, when you see a military person, offer to buy them a drink, shake their hand, and tell them,
“THAT YOU APPRICATE WHAT THEY ARE DOING FOR”
“OUT COUNTRY”
Next time I will shake their hand and buy them a drink. I don’t really think I ever thought about it that way before. Thanks for that insight, Jerry.
